    Drawing in bed

I’ve been taking notes in-class using my iPad Pro since I started grad school. I love how I can draw diagrams or insert photos of handouts easily.

Do any artists on here prefer glass over matte?

    Posted: 10 May 2020 09:18 AM PDT

I used to use a matte screen protector on my 9.7 inch ipad. Then I recently upgraded to the ipad pro, and went back to tempered glass mainly because I did not like how the matte affected the image quality.

I draw a lot of engineering type diagrams on the tempered glass. Straight lines are usually a challenge, but I just use shape tools. Handwriting is fine for me. I'm curious if there's any artists that actually prefer drawing on glass instead of matte.

    Mathematical equations

    Posted: 10 May 2020 08:05 AM PDT

Hello everybody, I'm currently trying to go IPad only, for my studies I need to write a lot of mathematical equations + text (big complicated ones). Does anybody here know an app where I can do that? Google docs in browser really isn't working that well for me. Maybe somebody here has an idea, thanks so much!

IPad Air 64gb vs. 256gb for creative use? Can you help me decide?

    Posted: 10 May 2020 01:52 PM PDT

I have a MacBook Pro (2015 I think) so most of my content is on there or my 64gb iPhone 8 plus. I'm running out of room on both of these and have to be careful about deleting photos/apps and other content I don't use and using external storage.

I want to start using an Ipad because I really enjoy having a touch screen but obviously my phone's screen isn't big enough for content creation. I write, am looking to explore procreate, and blog a bit. I do play the occasional game and stream all my music and movies (Netflix/Spotify) so downloading movies or tv shows won't be an issue for me.

I 'm leaning towards the 64gb obviously because of the cost ($630 vs. $815) and the option to add additional storage via external storage but I have concerns that even then the 64gb won't be enough.

I have 3,000 photos on my phone, more on my laptop and want to continue to be able to save and take more without having to constantly make space for new content. If I'm using it for procreate, photos, streaming and eventually taking notes for class, do you think I would be safe with the 64gb or is the $$ worth it for the 256gb?

    Thank you!

iPad problems after updating to iOS 13.4.1

    Posted: 10 May 2020 01:50 PM PDT

Just updated iPad to 12.4.1 and now it will restart every 5 or so minutes. Anyone else having this issue? Wondering if it's an issue with iOS over all?

    Should I get a 9.7" 2016 pro, or a new 2020 11"?

    Posted: 10 May 2020 01:38 PM PDT

Im a artist and a musician and I would really like to use a ipad pro for drawing and garageband. I can get a used 9.7" for about 300$ or get a new 11" for 1000$. Is there a huge speed difference? Will the older one lag while I'm recording?

iPad Pro 2nd Gen - compatible with external hard drives?

    Posted: 10 May 2020 01:24 PM PDT

I can't seem to find a straight answer to this question. Is the 2nd gen iPad Pro compatible with external hard drives?

I recently ordered a 2020 iPad Pro (haven't received it yet) and got a Samsung T7 Touch portable SSD to go with it. I was hoping to put all my files from my 2nd gen Pro onto the T7 before my new iPad gets here.

When I plug the hard drive in (via USB-C to lightning cable) nothing happens. It doesn't show up in the Files app.

I installed all the required software first with my Mac and can't figure out what else I need to do. I watched some tutorials but they all involve the iPad Pro 3rd gen and above.

Am I out of luck with using external storage on the iPad Pro 2nd gen?

Vertical and horizontal front facing camera on the roadmap?

    Posted: 10 May 2020 12:09 PM PDT

Not sure if this has been asked before but don't you think it's an odd angle when using smart keyboards for the front facing camera? Low and to the left? It'd be nice if there was one we could use when it's horizontal as well if we are trying to use it as a laptop replacement for video conferencing. Thoughts?

PDF library app - really no supply?

    Posted: 10 May 2020 07:36 AM PDT

I am new to the iPad - just got the 12.9" 2nd gen. The main purpose of this purchase is to have the ability to comfortably read all of my books on art that I have collected through the years - over 300 titles at the moment. They are all in PDF format.

What I am looking for is an app, a PDF manager/library, that would allow me to have a nice view with all the covers - something I get from e.g. Calibre on macOS (like this). Preferably also an option to give each of the files a short side note e.g "already read, semi-interesting" - on the mac I can do it with calibre, zotero, mendeley.

    Magic Keyboard backordered?

    Posted: 10 May 2020 11:00 AM PDT

Hey friends! First time poster (and recent owner of a brand new 12.9" iPad Pro!) here. I'm checking in with anybody who might know anything about this, or might at least have a hunch.

I ordered a Magic Keyboard directly from Apple to go along with my iPad at the same time as I ordered the iPad itself. The iPad arrived in a timely fashion, but my Magic Keyboard still hasn't moved past the "Processed" stage. I haven't received any communications from Apple or otherwise been given any indication that they are backordered. Is it possible that this might be a glitch in their system? Would I be "losing my place in line," so to speak, if I were to cancel and re-order? Or should I just wait it out? Perhaps reaching out to Apple directly would be my best route?

Thanks for any help you folks might be able to offer!

P.S. - Holy heck is this iPad a gorgeous powerhouse of technology! I'm in love <3

Anyone else’s iPad Pro 12.9 2018 battery draining unusually fast?

    Posted: 09 May 2020 08:36 PM PDT

I go from 100 to 15 while using it for barely 6 hours. Nothing power-intensive either, just browsing on safari, Spotify using headphones, checking mail, etc.

Is there any way to check battery health? Thinking of getting it replaced through AppleCare+ soon if the problem persists.

Wondering if it could be the latest iPadOS as well..

iPad Wifi versions using iPhone Hotspot - network prioritisation and remaining connected

    Posted: 10 May 2020 09:56 AM PDT

I've always bought cellular iPads but am looking at a wifi only verion. I've read about network prioritisation but am unclear how well the iPad works in real life prioritising networks and staying connected to the Hotspot as devices sleep and wake.

Can anyone confirm or correct me on how an iPad's network scoring / prioritisation works?
What I want is for it to always prefer to use normal wifi networks with decent connectivity. It should only try to use the Personal Hotspot on my phone if there's no good wifi to use. I need it to do this because cell coverage where I live is terrible and, as both devices are on the same iCloud account, the Hotspot service is always available. I don't want it prefering the Hotspot with no connectivity over the wifi network which is good.

How stable is the hotspot? I use hotspot most on the train (or did). The devices sleep when I do different things or make calls. Is the connection persistent or does it constant re-establish and provide that dialogue about there being a hotspot available?

Is 2.5D Graphic Animation possiblr in an iPad?

    Posted: 10 May 2020 02:29 AM PDT

I've always liked doing 2.5d animation and using Photoshop/After effects was the quickest way using a computer.

Is it possible to do it in an iPad and what apps can do this?

I'm buying an iPad Pro soon and hoping I can do this.

GOT A NEW iPAD PRO!!! What Now????

    Posted: 10 May 2020 11:56 AM PDT

    Hey guys,

I recently bought an iPad Pro 2020 12.9 inch. I plan on using it primarily for note taking and studying during the school year, and basic web browsing and Netflix during my free time.

I was wondering what kind of case I should get, and whether I need a matte screen protector and which one you guys think would be best.

Edit: I plan on writing most of my notes so I don't need the magic keyboard or any other keyboard case, and will probably purchase a Logitech keys to go in case of emergency.
