Anyone likes MacOS light mode better than dark mode? Posted: 19 Apr 2020 05:33 PM PDT I don't why but dark mode feels a little depressing. Dark mode makes everything looks dark, including things outside of my monitor. Anyone else has the similar experience? [link] [comments]

The new Music application is a hot mess Posted: 19 Apr 2020 03:02 PM PDT I've been having a rough time keeping my actual local imported music organised. The app will sometimes not let me edit tags or change artwork (yes, I've converted MP3 tags to v2.3). Sometimes I'll import a CD, then notice a few days later that several of the tracks are missing from the album, but they're still in the corresponding album folder in my iTunes Media central folder. It also doesn't obey repeat single tracks, splits albums into 2 listings in the album browser, and a whole host of other glitches. Anyone else having problems or could shed some light? Does anyone know how to use older mac OS sound effects on Catalina? Posted: 20 Apr 2020 01:19 AM PDT Specifically looking for the old sound for when the volume was adjusted. Not sure how to describe the sound but I loved it! Hope this wasn't a waste of time to read. [link] [comments]
[Question] Some apps quit when closing last window and others do not, but why? Posted: 19 Apr 2020 11:27 PM PDT Hey guys, first post here, I am just curious about why some apps quit, like FCPX, when closing the final window, but others, like Preview, need to be told to quit even after the final window was closed! If this is easily found somewhere like the manual please let me know and call me out on my laziness 😂 I appreciate all your feedback! [link] [comments]
Posted: 20 Apr 2020 01:26 AM PDT Hey everyone, Any Lunar users here? I downloaded this app so I could adjust the brightness on my external Lenovo t27p-10 4K USB c monitor. The application detects my screen, but when I try to change the brightness or anything, I see no difference on the monitor. The screen settings are greyed out in the in monitor settings. Can anyone help? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Magic Trackpad 2 - Very slow to wake Posted: 20 Apr 2020 01:24 AM PDT Hi all, hope everyone's staying safe and well! I just bought my first Magic Trackpad 2 (yup...pretty late to the game) to increase my productivity at home. Unfortunately, although the first time pairing went flawlessly, it takes 10-15 seconds for the Trackpad 2 to pair with my MacBook Pro after sleeping. The weird thing is my Logitech Craft Keyboard is instantly paired when the MacBook Pro wakes up, and the TrackPad 2 is delayed by 10-15 seconds. Shouldn't it be the other way around considering how LogiTech is 3rd party and TrackPad 2 is First party? Haha. Any tips? [link] [comments]
Trouble after updating to Catalina Posted: 19 Apr 2020 11:05 PM PDT I noticed that my battery drained faster than usual. My hard drive (seagate) and ms office 2016 became incompatible. What should i do to help alleviate the problem? For reference, I am using an updated OS (Catalina) and my MacBook Air is 11-inch, Early 2014; 1.4 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5; 4 GB Memory . Thank you :) I don't really know what to do, someone suggested buying a new laptop because mine , according to him, is already outdated. I can't afford to buy a new laptop because it is expensive and i am still a student. [link] [comments]
Posted: 19 Apr 2020 06:48 PM PDT I want to download Xcode but whenever I try to download it from the app store it says I need to update to MacOS version 10.15.2. Is there some other way that I'm able to download Xcode while staying on Mojave 10.14.1? [link] [comments]
Posted: 19 Apr 2020 09:41 PM PDT Heya! I've got a bit of a weird problem which I mentioned about a week ago but the plot thickens. In the About This Mac panel, it says I've got 29GB of music. I previously had it set to Automatically download everything, so to save space I turned that off, and highlighted everything in Music and clicked remove download, then just re-downloaded my favourite albums. but now, I apparently still have 29GB of music... At the bottom of the Music app it says "512 albums, 29GB", but when I switch to "View Downloaded music only" it then shows just those albums I chose and says "66 Albums, 5GB" which is more what I was hoping for. So I've had a look in the music folder in finder, and it's full of music files. But weirdly, there are some songs and albums in there I've never seen, and that aren't in my Music library. Further, each album is a folder, but for many folders, only two or three tracks from an album are in there in finder, but the complete album is there in Music! so....any idea what's going on? Can I just delete everything in that music folder? sorry this is a bit rambly, thanks for your help! [link] [comments]
External Hard Drive Problems after OS Update Posted: 19 Apr 2020 05:42 PM PDT I have a MBP 2014 15 in. Updated from el capitan to high sierra recently. I had issues on high sierra...so I reset SMC/PRAM, booted in safe mode, and finally reinstalled OS. At some point my external hard drives, that were completely quiet on el capitan, started running pretty loudly like they were being overworked. I upgraded to Mojave to see if it would resolve. They're still loud and sound heavily worked, even when I'm not directly pulling any data from them. When I put my macbook pro to sleep, they continue to run. Any idea how to triage this or what's going on? Seems like an OS issue where maybe my system is indexing off my hard drive? Posted about this recently...but so far no resolution. Issue with reminders in latest macOS Catalina build Posted: 19 Apr 2020 12:09 PM PDT Hey. I'm using the newest version of macOS Catalina and I've noticed a weird bug in reminders app. When the notification comes, I hear the sound but I don't see the actual reminder. Does anyone else have this issue? [link] [comments]
Posted: 19 Apr 2020 05:01 PM PDT So I have this one application where the force quit is not working on it, so I tried to restart my Mac and it isn't working. The OS is just forever trying to force quit the application and it never can. Also, I can't launch my terminal to try some commands that the internet has suggested. Any solutions? Anyone else’s Macs not auto updating its apps? Posted: 19 Apr 2020 04:53 PM PDT My apps are not updating in the background and badges are counting up. The toggle for auto updates are on, yet they're not updating. I just started a fresh install of macOS on New Years and I don't wanna set it up again. Can't tell if it's a bug for some people or if it's just me. Because I have it on my MBP and Mac mini. [link] [comments]
Finding boot logs on OS 10.11.4 Posted: 19 Apr 2020 08:19 PM PDT I'm trying to use the 'log' command with 'log show' but it's saying that 'log command is not found'. I've also looked looked through /var/log to find info about shutdowns and boots. Where can I find this info on my system? Specifically through the command line so I can use command line tools on it? I'm looking to avoid paying $45 for the Apple Thunderbolt to VGA connector. Thank you!! [link] [comments]

How to maximize my LaCie 2tb SSD (or my iCloud) Posted: 19 Apr 2020 04:24 PM PDT Hey guys, I recently got a new iMac, and in order to be able to afford the ssd, I had to make a cut on the storage space and go with the smallest HD. I was gifted a LaCie 2tb SSD, so I didn't think that would be a big deal, but I'm just not tech savvy enough to know how to maximize this storage set-up. I have iCloud upgraded to 200GB, and a LaCie 2tb SSD. My use is mostly office oriented as I'm a managing broker for a mid sized real estate firm. I don't know if this all matters, but I'm pretty deep into the ecosystem: iMac, MBP, iPad, iPhone, Apple Watch, Apple TV, and want to maximize what is synced across the devices, and I know if it's on the LaCie it won't be. Correct? Thanks guys, I appreciate the help! [link] [comments]
Posted: 19 Apr 2020 01:20 PM PDT I need a solution to an old laptop: I have a MBP A1278 which boots to the recovery menu. The issue I am having is that it does not allow me to recover online, and I need to make a USB boot drive to restore the laptop. Does anyone know how to do this? I keep finding bad advice online and I am running out of patience. Thanks!! [link] [comments]
2017 iMac running so slowly -- any help would be much appreciated Posted: 19 Apr 2020 01:18 PM PDT Sorry if this is the wrong thread but I am really hoping someone can help. I have a 2017 27" 5k iMac with 3.4GHz i5, 40GB DDR RAM, 1 TB fusion drive, and 4GB Radeon Pro 570. I am running Catalina 10.15.4. For about one year now, this iMac has been unbelievably slow. By that I mean that it takes >10 minutes to login (with only 2-3 startup programs like Google Drive, Avast), >2-3 minutes to launch certain apps (any Office program, Google Chrome, etc). During this time the computer is completely unusable and shows the spinning pinwheel, usually until I force quit something. For the life of me, I cannot figure out WHY things are running so slow. I use this machine mainly for browsing the internet and writing documents, so no gaming/movie editing/etc. I have reset PRAM/NVRAM multiple times, reset the SMC, and reinstalled MacOS through Recovery. I have tons of disk space free. I installed 32GB RAM to my initial 8GB thinking that it might help with the bottleneck, but no change. Some screen captures from Activity Monitor and About This Mac are here: https://imgur.com/a/DUReUKS I think this behavior started around the time of the first Catalina upgrade but I cannot recall with certainty. Any insight? kernel_task caught my eye with 224 threads and thousands of idle wake ups within a few minutes of starting up, but maybe this is normal for a system level process? [link] [comments] |
