Comparing 11 inch vs. 12.9 inch Magic Keyboard

    Posted: 26 Apr 2020 03:41 PM PDT

PSA: Jump Desktop is on sale. When paired with the magic keyboard is is fantastic for Remote Desktop.

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 09:41 AM PDT

I just got my magic keyboard in last Friday. I downloaded jump desktop and setup everything to remote into my MacBook and raspberry pi at home. I have a cellular model pro so I drove around town with my iPad and attempted to remote back into my MacBook at home from various location to test the reliability of remote of cellular. It worked wonderfully and truly gives you the best of both worlds on the iPad. I would highly recommend it to anyone who has the magic keyboard.

Does anyone now wish their MacBook was a Sidecar for the iPad screen?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 11:41 AM PDT

That's basically how my usage has changed lately. I want a large second screen for my iPad that isn't a TV.

TIL: About the new Magic Keyboard and screen wake on the IPP

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 10:35 AM PDT

Maybe I am wrong but after some vigorous testing in my office and under tight scrutiny.. it appears the screen on the iPad only wakes when the angle of the MK is adjusted, not when opening the case. At first I thought it was a defect, but now it seems like a neat little feature. Or my testing was way off and this post is a complete lie.

How am I seeing so many people complaining about missing function keys and having to touch the display when there's a freaking trackpad on the new Magic Keyboard?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 11:42 AM PDT

I've been looking a lot of reviews on the new Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro 2020 and 2018, and one of the most consistent things I'm seeing is people not liking the lack of function keys for brightness, volume, play/pause, and they have to touch the iPad which defeats the purpose of having the keyboard.

Do they not realize that the keyboard has a trackpad now that they can use instead of lifting their hands? Believe me, dedicated keys for those functions would have been nice but I think there's very little you can't do with that trackpad now that used to require touch before.

Is there any sense to what these reviewers are saying? It just baffles me that one of the coolest additions to the iPad's keyboard case is being overlooked like this.

Apple Delivery Date is different from UPS Delivery Date

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 12:10 PM PDT

I ordered an 11in iPad Pro last week, and when I go to check the order, Apple says my iPad will be delivered on May 5th, however when I click on the tracking number and it brings me to UPS it says that it will be delivered on April 29th (in two days). It says that my package is still in Hong Kong. Which delivery date should I go by, Apple or UPS? I want to hope UPS, but shipping from Hong Kong to the East Coast in the mist of covid-19 seems unrealistic. Thank you in advance

Will the Apple keyboard and a Bluetooth mouse be supported for gaming like Minecraft?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 01:11 PM PDT

    Random post i guess

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 01:05 PM PDT

It just kinda bothers me that people complain about "having to touch the ipad screen" for brightness or other specific functions, then turn around to complain that there's no touchscreen on macbooks, like????? Why did you even get an iPad if you don't want to touch the display honestly

    iPad 2 : Can't install apps

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 01:52 PM PDT

Hi all, hope you're all in good health.

I have an old iPad 2, I haven't used it in a fair few years but decided to give it a go earlier.

Unfortunately all the old apps I can't get to work as the iOS won't go to 10, Netflix, Disney+ etc.

Is there anyway around this? I've had a search bit can't see anything on here.

    Thanks in advance.

Why are iPad Pros so Powerful?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 07:50 AM PDT

Apple claims that the iPad is just as powerful as an average PC laptop, and I'm sure it is, but what are people actually using that processing power for? Why would you want the iPad Pro over a similarly sized iPad if one was available? Who is rendering or seriously video editing on an iPad?

    Advice for upcoming student

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 01:31 PM PDT

    Hi all,

Total newbie with very little iPad experience here. I'm going back to school in the Fall for my MBA and thought an iPad might be a good addition to my backpack, so to speak. The program is fully online.

I don't think an iPad will fully replace a computer for things like term papers and things like that, but I thought it would be good for digital textbooks, online discussion boards, presentations, and just general keeping up with the goings-on while not sitting at home with my laptop.

Also wanted to know if iPads ever really go on sale? Should I buy now? Should I wait until late summer for the back-to-school rush? Is a student discount available?

Can I have fully digital textbooks? How much space do they typically take so I know what size iPad I should get?

Thoughts? Any input is appreciated. It'll be more than 8 years from the time I got my undergrad in May, 2012 to my first Masters class in September of this year so the tech is not really comparable. The idea of reading a masters level textbook fully on a screen is making me a little uneasy but I suppose to need to adjust to the times.

    Many thanks.

Magic Mouse #1 not really supported :( Only left click works. Swipes, scrolling, hold and drag or 3 fingers gesture not supported. Looks like it’s time to update to Magic Trackpad.

IPad Pro 2018 v 2020 - what deal is better?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 12:20 PM PDT

I can get a refurbished 11 inch 256GB 2018 for £620 or a brand new 2020 128GB for £730. Storage is a non issue as I will get by just fine with 128gb. Which one would you get? I'm so torn as I know performance is pretty much the same but 2020 has that extra ram and will last longer in the long run.

The Magic Keyboard is great. How about those exposed corners though?

    Posted: 26 Apr 2020 08:47 PM PDT

    Hey everyone,

Got an iPad Pro 12.9 as a replacement to my dearly departed 2012 MacBook air... moment of silence...

Anyways, I went full-apple and ordered the magic keyboard too. I think I should be able to do everything I could do with my MacBook air plus more with this setup, which is awesome.

But there's one thing that has me terrified... feeling... exposed...

I'm talking about the corners on my delicious iPad. They are just so vulnerable. My wife and child are sometimes within 5 feet of the iPad and it has me very nervous to say the least. I'd like to hug them again one day. Apple has driven a wedge between me and my family.

So what's the deal? Is anybody else worried about this? I think the magic keyboard will improve things and will give it some much-needed grip, but for those moments when I'm (attempting) to draw? I'm using it now without the keyboard and I'm overwhelmed with scary feelings.

I'd love to buy something that could just go over the corners. I found a failed Kickstarter that died in 2014... otherwise, I can't find anything.

Of course, there are other keyboard cases that offer more corner protection, but I don't see much value in those because it seems like the Pad will be safe and secure when it's attached to any keyboard.

So it's really just those exposed moments. I mean, it would be nice to have corner protection at all times, but personally I think being able to grip the entire unit (iPad + magic keyboard) will be enough for me.

It just seems like iPads by themselves are very slippery, almost to the point where it feels intentional in some conspiratorial way... great, now I started an accidental side conversation...

Dear iPad apple people, do lend me your wisdom. Thanks

iPad Pro 12.9 Mk2 - what can I do with external display?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 06:29 AM PDT

    Ugh, I accidentally a dumb. 4th generation/New - MXAY2LL/A

Hi, I'm trying to inch toward iPad-only workflow. I manage multiple cloud and database engineers, so workflow is extremely important to me as I use a ton of different tools and platforms to work through the people and technical aspects of my job(s.. seems like jobs). So far I'm elated with this device but I'm looking for tips and tricks to try and spice things up.

I'd like to discover use cases for the display output abilities of this device. I've been able to use display mirroring but that seems like .. it. Is secondary display output a design limitation of the "app"/software? I'd LOVE to be able to have Chrome/Safari on the external display for charts/graphs and the usual apps on the built-in display.
