Posted: 21 Apr 2020 11:49 AM PDT I received my Magic Keyboard today. I'm super happy with how it works, but the build quality of my unit is really poor. Given that there are that many issues with my single device, I wonder how widespread those issues are. Anyway, I'm going to request a replacement keyboard. Update: There're also users complaining about build quality and malfunctioning units on the MacRumors forums. https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/anyone-here-returning-the-magic-keyboard.2231990/ https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/ipad-magic-keyboard-replacement-delay.2232032/ [link] [comments]

FYI You can remap the Caps Lock key to be Escape on the magic keyboard Posted: 21 Apr 2020 03:51 AM PDT I saw some reviewers complaining about the lack of an escape key, but you can simply remap it in settings > general > keyboards > hardware keyboard > modifier keys. This is great because you can escape out of full screen videos without having to reach up and touch the screen. You can also enable tap to click on the touchpad. [link] [comments]
Best Buy has both Magic keyboards in stock if you are looking for one. Posted: 21 Apr 2020 12:30 PM PDT My Apple order was accidentally canceled by Paypal but Best Buy has both sizes in stock and I'm getting mine tomorrow for one day delivery. [link] [comments]

Sweaty Hands While Notetaking? Posted: 21 Apr 2020 11:49 AM PDT Hi All, I have used an iPad for notetaking for many years - a Mini while in high school, a 9.7" Pro for the first half of my undergrad, then a 2019 11". I have noticed with the Apple pencil and Notability that my palm tends to rub the multitouch bar on the bottom, which interrupts my writing and tends to make things all funky. Has anyone else dealt with this? I have looked through the settings and nothing jumps out that seems like it would mitigate this - disabling multitouch gestures doesn't seem to apply to the bottom bar. Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't mind spending money if it will curb this minor, first world problem of an irritation. Thank you so much! [link] [comments]
Any alternatives for the Smart Keyboard Folio on the iPad Pro? Posted: 21 Apr 2020 01:53 PM PDT I have tried the Logitech Slim Folio, and it is way too bulky. It is also annoying how hard it is to hold the ipad in tablet mode without something flopping to hit you. I loved the way the Smart Keyboard Folio worked, but the build quality left much to be desired, and the cost is a joke. Is there anything else on the market that is decent build quality, reasonably priced, and can be easily used as a tablet? [link] [comments]
Apple Smart Folio (White) - does it yellow? or get dirty easily? Posted: 21 Apr 2020 01:43 PM PDT Recently obtained a new iPad Pro 12.9 (2020) and would love to get the new magic keyboard to go with it, but I just don't know that I can justify the price (yet). I'm an all Apple household since 2006 but this is my first iPad in the last 8 years or so. I need a case for it that I can tote back/forth to work on occasion, but I'm fairly certain that I'll want to use a smart folio while it's at home. I like the white aesthetic, but I'm concerned about it yellowing/getting dirty easily. Does anyone have any experience with the white versions that could lend some info? [link] [comments]
Has anyone worked out how to use the microphone for dictating when using the magic keyboard? Posted: 21 Apr 2020 12:54 PM PDT It's a shame there isn't a microphone key on the keyboard or maybe I'm missing something. [link] [comments]
Magic Keyboard AND Bluetooth Keyboard? Posted: 21 Apr 2020 10:22 AM PDT Question for anyone that has a Magic Keyboard case.... If you have the iPad open and on the Magic Keyboard, can it also connect to a Bluetooth keyboard? I have a Logitech multi-device keyboard that works with my Mac and iPad....just wondering if I can still use the iPad and Logitech if needed, using the Magic Keyboard as a stand? Will we see a new iPad Mini anytime soon? Posted: 21 Apr 2020 04:11 AM PDT Ok I may be in a minority but I really like the iPad mini formfactor. I once had the 3rd gen but sadly it broke on me a long time ago. I really liked it because it is just a great formfactor for reading and surfing. So now I am really in the market for getting a new one however I really would like to see the new iPad Pro Design on a smaller device. Do you guys think that there is any chance that we will see one released until 2021? [link] [comments]
iPadOS 13.4 Cursor support & Accessibility: my quick experience Posted: 21 Apr 2020 10:50 AM PDT Hello, So, I've seen some pretty deep dives on the trackpad/cursor support in iPadOS 13.4. I've even seen some pretty thorough overviews of the settings found in the Accessibility menu, which have been helpful for people like me. However, I have not seen anyone look at the new cursor support from an Accessibility-focused perspective... I wanted to get the new Magic Keyboard, because the backlit keys alone are an accessibility feature for me, but I needed to know if the trackpad support would work for me before buying. So, I brought over my Magic Trackpad from my Mac, plugged it in, and tried it. In short, I am impressed so far! I am a person with low vision. I don't use VoiceOver or Voice Control on my iPad (yet), as I have enough vision to get by with Zoom (Apple's screen magnification tech, not talking about the popular video conferencing platform, LOL). With the exception of my Apple TV (which I do use VoiceOver on that), and my Apple Watch (which has VoiceOver on standby), I use Zoom on all of my Apple devices. Zoom on the Mac has been around for YEARS, and it has always worked great. There are a lot of nice customization features, like following keyboard focus and choosing to keep the mouse at the center of the magnification zone (so I don't lose where the mouse is at). Thanks to multi-touch, Zoom on the iPhone is a bit more simplistic than the Mac, requiring three-finger gestures to operate. It can be a little clunky, but it is very useful while on-the-go. The iPad has always been... disappointing. Having a keyboard makes things a bit easier, but it really is just a port of the iPhone version of Zoom. Same controls, same limitations. It works well, but the problem has always been hand fatigue. If I am reading lots of articles, then constantly tapping three fingers on the screen to zoom in, out, and look around... well, it hurts after a while. It was getting to the point where I was starting to worry about doing serious damage to my hand from an ergonomic perspective. (Relying more on Screen Reader, the two-finger swipe-from-top feature, helps with this, but can't use it in all cases.) Legit trackpad support COULD move the iPad closer to the Mac, and make things far more ergonomically comfortable and safe. So, what did I find when I plugged in my trackpad? Well, like I said, for the most part... I'm impressed. Plugging in the trackpad reveals lots of menus for customizing use of Zoom. Much to my delight, the "place cursor at the center" option was there, waiting for me. Everything worked just as I expected, with just a few exceptions:
Other than those two things, I'm quite pleased! I ordered the Magic Keyboard case from Best Buy today, and I hope to have it tomorrow (!!!). I'll report back if I find anything else out, but I thought this may be a helpful perspective for some who may be looking for it! :) [link] [comments]
iPad Pro 11 2020 case compatible with smart connector Posted: 21 Apr 2020 10:49 AM PDT Did anyone find a case(bumper), which is compatible(has cutout) with the smart connector on the back of the iPad pros? I am basically looking for a case to use with the magic keyboard. [link] [comments]
Magic Keyboard Should Turn Off When Not Entering Text Posted: 21 Apr 2020 02:13 PM PDT I received the Magic Keyboard on Monday, and so far so good. I've been using all Apple iPad keyboards since the first version of the 12.9" iPad and by far, this is the best keyboard Apple has ever created. One minor complain, though. On the evening I use my iPad on my couch, mostly to read stuff (on Reddit/Safari) and I'm slightly bothered by the keys being lighted up. On my Mac, this is not an issue, because I can adjust the brightness of the keyboard and not think about it twice. But, on this Magic Keyboard, this is not possible, because, for whatever reasons, there is no top row (unrelated rant: Apple, please add this in the next iteration). One idea I've been thinking: iPadOS should turn the keys off unless I'm about to enter text. Bonus point: this would also help save battery life a little. If you have received your Magic Keyboard, or are thinking about getting one: what do you think? [link] [comments] |
