Downloaded an app from Apple Store and now paranoid I have malware Posted: 06 Apr 2020 07:49 PM PDT I downloaded an unrated app onto my MacBook Air and when it opened it asked me to enter a 6 key password. I thought it was asking me to create one for the game, but it kept telling me whatever I entered was wrong. When I closed out of the app there was a pop-up saying the app was asking for keylogger permission. I denied it, but now I'm paranoid there's something malicious on my computer. Is there something I can use to check if anything nasty made it's way onto my laptop? [link] [comments]
Spilled water on Macbook Air 2015.. Posted: 06 Apr 2020 08:53 PM PDT Oh god. I spilled water on my bed and then it went into my laptop in the back, it wouldn't turn on so I decided to dry it using a hair dryer. It turned on but then the screen would flicker and then go dim slowly until it's black. At first the charger didn't even charge, until I used a hair dryer and it's able to charge now. What can I do? Obviously can't go anywhere because of corona, but I set it in a V position and hope to keep it like that for a few days. Would that help at all? I'm so mad because nothing on my laptop was saved, and all of my music + notes is all gone. I don't even know how I'm going to do my homework now for online school, this is not a good time at all. Of course my parents definitely won't get me a new one, so it's all my fault. I've had it for 4 years. Any advice? [link] [comments]

Sleep Indicator Light not working Posted: 07 Apr 2020 12:47 AM PDT I have a MacBook Pro mid 2012 13inch. Recently I noticed that my MacBook was losing its charge quickly and the sleep indicator light doesn't blink when the lid is closed anymore. I think this might be why the battery has been losing its charge quickly, since it never sleeps. I noticed that when I apply pressure near where the SSD and optical drive sits, then the light will turn on. I tried to tape the flex cable in place but it does not work consistently. Any suggestions? [link] [comments]
2011 MacBook Pro to 2019 MacBook Pro transfer Posted: 07 Apr 2020 12:32 AM PDT tl;dr What's the best way to transfer data from my old 2011 MacBook Pro to a new 2019 MacBook Pro? I have a Time Machine back up available. I have a 2011 MacBook Pro that seems to be on it's last legs due to a well known GPU issue. I had it fixed years ago by Apple, but it went out again yesterday and I had to follow a tutorial online to fuss with the system files to even get it running again (fully expecting it to conk out at any moment). Anyway, after researching and finding competing information (and also just being overwhelmed with trying to find specific answers) I figured I would ask this here. I have a current Time Machine back up and know I could migrate that over to a new MacBook, but is that wise to do with the older OS? It's on High Sierra 10.13.6. Or does it not even transfer the OS? I read that it transfers the system files and I was a little worried about it transferring over bad files or stuff that has been causing issues/are incompatible? I realize that may be a dumb concern. I don't think the backup has the changes I made recently to fix the video card though, which is good. Or is it a better idea to just manually transfer files over? And if so what is the best method? Ethernet? I think the 2011 model has an ancient Thunderbolt version. This is assuming my current MacBook is still working by the time I get the new one, which looks like would be the end of April based on Apple's shipping estimate. My third option is a back up I have through an online service, if Time Machine is not a good idea and my machine dies before I get a new one. I am dead tired, so sorry if this is all over the place! Posted: 06 Apr 2020 05:32 PM PDT What's good yall, hope everyone's washing their hands and entertaining themselves. In an attempt to do the latter, I've been thinking about downloading Logic Pro X and just trying to fumble around with music because this quarantine has stopped me from going to school and work and I'm having trouble keeping myself busy and would like to pick up a new hobby. I currently own a 2017 MacBook Air; I know the MacBook Pro is a better suited laptop for Logic Pro X but is it still worth it for me to get? Any feedback is greatly appreciated, many thanks! Posted: 06 Apr 2020 05:31 PM PDT Hey all, I'm considering refurbishing a MacBook Pro that I have here for my kid's schoolwork and am wondering if any of you know how much ram this machine can handle? And any suggestions on gore I can do a decent "budget" upgrade that we'd be happy with? I'm finding conflicting info on the net and know that I can rely on this community to know their stuff My MacBook: MacBook Pro 13"(mid 2010) 2.4 GHz intel core 2 duo 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 NVIDIA Gforce 320M 256MB Running MAC OS High Sierra Thanks in advance! And stay healthy and at home! [link] [comments]
Battery Indicator Bar Reads 40%; System Powers Down Until Connected To Charger. Posted: 06 Apr 2020 11:05 AM PDT This has been a persistent issue for months now. If I allow the power level to drop below 45%, I am running the risk of the MBP powering off. If I were to attempt to power it on without plugging it in, I am greeted with a dead battery icon in the middle of the blank screen. Upon plugging it in, the machine powers up without pressing anything. This happens about 3-5 seconds after the charger is snapped into place. After that, it's business as usual. It loads up quickly (relative) and functions without issue. It's just this damn battery issue. . I have tried a couple of things to remedy the situation. Previously, I had read about resetting the SMC and then letting the system do its thing until the battery 'died'. I was to do that twice in a row. I was skeptical but I tried it nonetheless and had no results. I also wiped the PCIe and did a fresh install of Catalina on a whim. This did not help matters either. . I have been putting this off because my performance isn't effected other than essentially having a greatly reduced battery life. Also because I use my MBP at home and I have a 14' cord to keep it plugged in, it's given me even less incentive to fully commit to fixing it. [link] [comments]
Moving data from old harddrive to new one Posted: 06 Apr 2020 03:43 PM PDT Hi guys, My 2013 Macbook Air died and couldn't be repaired (long story) so I'm getting another 2013 Macbook Air to replace it, which will arrive later this week. I have important files on the old harddrive and am planning on taking it out of the old Macbook. However, I also have some preinstalled apps on the new macbook so I want to transfer the data from the old SSD to my new SSD. I was thinking of manually replacing the new SSD with the old one, powering up the macbook and then doing a backup onto an external hard drive. Then I'd just reinstall the new SSD and move files from the external hard drive back onto the macbook. This process seems really tedious so I'm wondering if anyone can help me with a better solution! Trouble with screens for additional monitors Posted: 06 Apr 2020 03:03 PM PDT Hi All, I have a macbook air (2017) running on High Sierra (10.13.6). I recently purchased two additional monitors and a Mini DisplayPort Dual HDMI adapter to ideally run two monitors and my laptop screen ads the third screen. The only problem is the two monitors are "mirrored" as in they are showing the exact same thing on each screen. Any way to fix this so the monitors can show different items on each screen? MacBook Air 2020 Thermals, i3 vs i5? Posted: 06 Apr 2020 10:52 AM PDT So I ordered a MacBook Air 2020 i5 w/ 16GB of RAM and 256GB SSD storage. It plans to arrive between April 14-April 21, so I have yet to be charged for the device and can still change my mind. I've been watching a lot of reviews for the past week and most of them are saying the thermals are a little out of control, and I'm wondering if it's still better to get the i5 or if it's not really going to be utilized and just get the i3. I'm primarily asking those who have already received their Air 2020 and have been using them, but also past MacBook Air users are fine as well. I've never had a Mac of any kind and while I love my desktop PC, I'm against Windows laptops because I've never had anything but issues with them. Please help me make a decision by providing as much knowledge as you can. Thanks in advance! Hope everyone is staying safe during this pandemic. [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Apr 2020 10:28 AM PDT I was using my laptop normally and it suddenly just died. I plugged in the charger and somehow managed to reboot it. In the battery menu, it said replace battery now. But when I read about it, it said I can use normally and replace it whenever. However, when I unplugged the charger, it died again. And I had to reboot it again. Basically it died every time I unplug the charger. Idk what to do I recently got my laptop repair because it died and apparently there was some short circuit in the motherboard. Is the MacBook Air (2019)a good computer? Posted: 06 Apr 2020 10:27 AM PDT Im a college student graduating next year majoring in history. I need a laptop for web browsing, writing essays, PowerPoint presentations and light photo/video creation and editing. However in the future I might also need it for coding, etc. Also I'm thinking about buying it certified refurbished from the Apple store and would like to know if i could trade it in for money If I decide that I want a MacBook Pro in the future? Also do I need warranty? I have never had a MacBook but do have an iPhone and have always wanted to upgrade my computer into the Apple ecosystem as well. I don't have a desktop at home so the MB air would be my only computer. Thank you so much for your help! [link] [comments]
Searching a fitting Macbook Pro Dock for Birthday Posted: 06 Apr 2020 12:46 PM PDT I am currently looking into replacing my desktop computer with an 13" Macbook Pro from either 2018 or 2019 for my start at university. However I'd still like to keep my desktop equipment at home, for which I ran into some problems. I simply can't find a dock that supports double HDMI plus 5 USB-A. However I need those ports, as I need a keyboard, mouse, audio interface plus 2 midi keyboards. Would It be cheaper to reduce the needed USB-A ports to 3 by buying a new USB-C Mouse & Keyboard in combination with a Dock, or is there some sort of alternative that could help me out? Preferably under 300€ would be great! [link] [comments]
