Why is the App Store so bad?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 07:37 PM PST

The way the App Store is organized is just garbage. It's so difficult to find games for no reason at all.

Why can't I sort by order of release? Why when I select a genre do I only see the same 5 games that have been featured for the past 3 years? It just doesn't make sense.

The only way to find newly released games is by looking at the 6 they randomly select and add to the "New Games We Love" section every 2ish weeks. Everything else just gets buried and never seen. I couldn't imagine spending time developing a game I am proud of just to have it buried under all of the rubbish the store chooses to feature.

Recommendation: Book of Demons (ipad) - heavily influenced by Diablo - premium high quality game

    Posted: 04 Mar 2020 06:08 AM PST

I've had the steam release for what seems like years and I had no idea it was coming to mobile. For me, it was an instant purchase.

What is Book of Demons? Picture Diablo 1, but slightly more streamlined and using a card system for skills, passives and spells. There are varying degrees of rarity (magical, legendary, etc.) for these cards so there is some excitement at finding new "loot". You can upgrade cards as well, which is quite strategic as you'll find out if you play it.

The levels are randomized, and you can select how long each segment should be (small, medium, large) based on your playtime.

There are three classes to choose from (rogue, warrior, mage) and they all play very differently. Due to randomized levels and elements, and amount of content, I can personally see myself getting 60+ hours out of this one.

The game is the very definition of premium, with a lot of love and careful design. Can play it offline, no in app purchases. It's been such a joy to play on my tablet that I put down the PC version indefinitely to focus on it instead. If I had to choose one word to summarize my review of this game, it would be: masterpiece.

    Games like Banished

    Posted: 04 Mar 2020 08:55 AM PST

Hello everyone! I recently downloaded Dawn of Man and really love how it shares a lot of concepts with Banished. I also know that neither of these games are on IOS, but are there any games that are fairly similar? I prefer paid games rather than free to play or freemium, just reduces hassle. All help is appreciated!

Looking for puzzle games like Subaracity

    Posted: 04 Mar 2020 08:51 AM PST

Subaracity is such a simple and fun game but I can't seem to find anything like it. Everything seems to be generic match three type game. Nothing that really makes the challenge different. Anyone come across anything?

[suggestion] A game like Hero Emblems?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 09:38 PM PST

I bought my fiancée Hero Emblems almost a year ago and she's logged about 50+ hours on it, beat the game to death. Any games close to it? Preferably not f2p, but i'm open to any suggestions! The app store is hard to search in.

    Simple multiplayer game recommendations

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 04:37 PM PST

I would like to find some new multiplayer games to play but unfortunately haven't found to many I like. I just want a simple multiplayer game that doesn't require much brain power and isn't pay to win. An example of a game that I really like is fun run 3. Sure it's a bit childish but it's simple and gives no advantage to those who pay money.

So... Dragon Raja. I'm being misled or is it not a bad game?

    Posted: 04 Mar 2020 01:47 AM PST

So... Dragon Raja. I'm being misled or is it not a bad game?

I'm extremely sceptic with mobile MMORPGs, but I, somehow, feel attracted to the genre, so once in a while I try a new one just to be disappointed in the first 10 minutes of gameplay (actual gameplay, you know...)

I downloaded Dragon Raja convinced I wasn't going to like it, but I find kind of entertaining the character creation in this games and I needed to kill a few minutes (ok, I'll be honest, it was pure procrastination).

This game have some serious red flags, from aesthetics to poor translations, and this "auto quest".

I began to play the tutorial, and found that the "auto quest" was is that bad, it is just a path finder for going from A to B. There is no auto battle. Also, the battle system feels good. It's not an action RPG, but it is satisfying. There seems to be a plot, probably cliche, but different enough. The setup is not fantasy/medieval, which is something fresh. It's fun and confortable to play.

Again, I have just played a bit, but I'm getting my hopes up. I'm just afraid that I hit soon some kind of paywall. So far, it doesn't feel a generic MMORPG, and if I wasn't so disappointed with the genre I could swear it's not a bad game.

    • Have any of you played long enough to confirm any of this?
    • Is it worth the time spent?
    • How are IAPs? very P2W or more skin/looks oriented? (I actually end up spending more money on not P2W games, it's not about playing for free, it's about playing without feeling blackmailed)
    • How is the progression? Does it keep interest or get boring/frustrating?

I keep hoping for a mobile MMORPG that's not P2W or requires big amounts of time to feel progression, so I can play in short sessions. The not medieval/fantasy setup is not a requisite, but it does feel like a novelty.

    ISO interesting app

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 07:51 PM PST

Things I like: sandbox, building or collecting, (preferably optional) quest/side quests, interesting in depth characters.

I tried to get Cataclysm DDA on my iPhone XR but apparently there's some sort of bug. I enjoyed games like Minecraft and text based things like 1 Dark Room. I'm primarily a F2P player but I can save up to get something I'd it's highly recommended. I'm 22 so not afraid of adult scenes/gore/death content.

    Sharable family games

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 11:59 AM PST

Anyone have any ideas for educational games for Pre-K kids that allow Family Sharing along with the sharing of the subscription? Or that have no IAP? The subscriptions can get expensive and the idea of dropping $6.99 x 2 each month is killing me especially since they don't play everyday or usually for very long. I'm all for supporting the developers but my kids aren't old enough to know what's an add to skip (in free games) and the pricing starts to get steep when you multiply it. I wouldn't mind paying for something once and not worrying about all the other clutter, even if it was a little pricey. I miss the days where they free version was a trial and then you could just pay for the app instead of having to subscribe. (I sound so old. Maybe I am.)

So far the only solution is to have my own account signed into the iTunes store and I'm concerned about them accidentally spending money.
