Posted: 01 Mar 2020 08:11 PM PST Please use this thread to discuss whatever iOS games you've been playing lately. They don't have to be new games, they can be old games and they do not have to be iOS original titles! As long as it's an iOS game it belongs in here. Make sure to put the name(s) of the game(s) in bold to make it easier for people skimming the thread to see what you're talking about, and if you'd like to make it really convenient turn the game name into a hyperlink that sends people directly to the App Store! To keep track of the thread, the comments are sorted by "new" by default. [link] [comments]
3 Quick tl;dr iOS Game Reviews / Recommendations (Episode 52) Posted: 02 Mar 2020 08:05 AM PST I know, it isn't exactly Friday (sorry for bursting your bubble, hehe), but I had a busy weekend so had to postpone this weekly post to Monday. Hope you'll still enjoy the read through my 4 mobile gaming recommendations of the week, guys :) This time, I found an offline dungeon-crawler RPG in the vein of Card Thief, a fun turn-based roguelike with a unique twist on the match-3 combat, an action bow-and-arrow shooter, and a fantasy-themed idle RPG with a crazy amount of content and decent monetization. Disagree with my opinion? Let's have a friendly discussion below. New to these posts? Check out the first one from 51 weeks ago here. The games are "ranked" somewhat subjectively from best to worst, so take the ranking for what it is. Here are the games:Look, Your Loot! [Game Size: 42 MB] (free)Genre: Card / Dungeon-crawler / RPG / Card Thief-like - Offline Playable Orientation: Portrait Required Attention: Little tl;dr review: Look, Your Loot! is a well-made card-based dungeon crawler inspired by Card Thief that sets itself apart by having multiple game-modes, all of which are available in the free version of the game. Our goal is to get as far as possible into a dungeon consisting of a 3x3 (or 4x3) grid of cards that can either contain enemies, potions, or loot. At certain intervals, we'll meet a boss card too, and once we defeat it, we level up and get to pick 1 of 2 random power-ups that last until we die. With 11 unique heroes to play as (unlocked through in-game gold or premium currency) and multiple game-modes, the game is very enjoyable and has a decent level of replayability as well. Monetization happens through ads that appear from time to time when we die, which can be removed through a $2 iAP, and additional iAPs to buy premium currency to unlock 4 of the heroes. App Store: Here First Impressions / Review: Here Lost in the Dungeon [Game Size: 164 MB] (free)Genre: Roguelike / RPG / Turn-based / Match-3 - Offline Playable Orientation: Portrait Required Attention: Little tl;dr review: Lost in the Dungeon is a turn-based roguelike RPG puzzle game with a unique twist on the match-3 gameplay mechanic. Starting out, we pick one of 8 unique heroes, for which we can then buy permanent upgrades and new skills before we launch the play-session. Once we're in, we're presented with a grid of tiles. Our goal is to deal damage by connecting 3 or more tiles of a color that matches the color of one of the enemies that spawn in waves at the top of the screen. After every wave, we get to a shop where we can buy new equipment for our hero, which increases our overall starts like defense and attack power, and whenever we level up, we get to pick a temporary stat-increase as well. The gameplay is spiced up a bit through tiles that have a power-up attached to them, which activates whenever we destroy those tiles, as well as through certain enemies that can lock up parts of our grid of tiles. The game is fun and well-made, and the unique twist of RPG, match-3, and roguelike elements really come together nicely. Monetization happens through incentivized ads for additional loot, and iAPs to get more orbs, which is used to unlock and level up new heroes - but we also earn orbs through gameplay, which makes the iAPs unnecessary. App Store: Here First Impressions / Review: Here Last Arrows [Total Game Size: 194 MB] (free)Genre: Action / Shooter - Offline Playable Orientation: Portrait Required Attention: Full tl;dr review: Last Arrows is a fun level-based arrow shooter where we try to defeat all enemies in each level with as few shots as possible to earn 3 stars. The game features two difficulties for each level, as well as an endless survival mode where enemies run towards us and we have to shoot them all before they hit us. As we progress through the game's levels, we unlock new abilities that make combat more interesting, like a slow-mo ability, and an ability that allows us to shoot arrows that curve on their way to the enemy, which makes it possible to shoot around obstacles. The game monetizes through ads that pop-up between levels from time to time, with a $2 iAP to remove the ads, and a few other iAPs to unlock new heroes immediately if we don't want to grind gold to unlock them. App Store: Here First Impressions / Review: Here Endless Frontier [Total Game Size: 233 MB] (free)Genre: RPG / Idle / Fantasy - Requires Online Access Orientation: Portrait Required Attention: Idle tl;dr review: Endless Frontier is a huge fantasy-themed RPG idle game where we start auto-repeating quests to earn gold, and spend that gold by unlocking and leveling up progressively better and stronger heroes that fight monsters for us. The game offers a ton of features to keep things interesting, like gear with lots of interesting attributes, resource dungeons, a guild system, a "PvP" battle arena, and much more. When things slow down to a halt, we can reset our progress in exchange for a currency used to buy permanent upgrades that improve our heroes, and then the gameplay loop repeats. Progression in Endless Fronter is very fast, which made it a very enjoyable experience, and unlike many idle games, we're not forced to watch ads to progress either. There are lots of iAPs, but none of them feel necessary, and we earn free premium currency through normal gameplay throughout the game, and not just for the first few hours to lure us in. Best path of exile style iOS game? Posted: 01 Mar 2020 05:59 PM PST So I'm In need of a new game. I played mobile legends for a couple of years. And have been playing auto chess since release. I played clash royal for a while. But I need something non competitive because I'm tired of raging. I played through nexomon, and got tired of the tedious survival games where a sword that takes a day to craft breaks in 10 minutes of use. I like to find hidden gems in the App Store. The I've been through all of the top games. I've seen some path of exile footage and it looks with a shot but it's not on the App Store and the games that I have found that are that style are really watered down. So who knows about that hidden gem ARPG out there on the App Store. Can be paid or free. [link] [comments]
Getting rid of Switch in favor of iPad Gaming...bad idea? Posted: 02 Mar 2020 11:10 AM PST Yes, I know someone has asked this before and yes, I have read those threads but looking to see if anyone else has some thoughts. I bought a PS4 over Black Friday and over the past couple of months it has collected dust. I just don't have time to commit 60+ hours to games anymore. I returned it yesterday and swapped it for a Switch even if both of my kids have their own Switch units in the house. If you're a parent, you know that trying to grab a Switch from a kid when they want to play is a death wish. I've been looking at some Switch games to pick up and it just feels like aside from the first-rate popular titles like Smash Brothers, BOTW, Mario Kart, etc - there are a lot of games that have been ported to both platforms. I'm really wondering if with two other Switch units in the house if I need my own. The thought of paying $20 plus for multiple games makes me wonder if I shouldn't take the couple hundred dollars I got from returning my PS4/buying the Switch and getting $150 in App Store credit and going to town. I currently have the iPad mini 5 which is great for gaming but I could consider returning that, getting the Air 3 and STILL having enough money left over to pick up $200 worth of App Store credits. not saying I spend it all there, but I could easily find and download more games than I could ever hope to play and finish. I've been driving my wife crazy trying to figure this out. I do have a PS4 controller so I can play with that on my iPad as well as the HDMI adapter so I can connect to my TV so it's not like I can't recreate TV gaming somewhat. I know it's totally subjective, but I'm stuck trying to figure this out. [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Mar 2020 08:49 AM PST Any suggestions for some strategy-based games? Like how Age of Empires, Civilization, stuff like that. City-builders and the like. [link] [comments]
RPG games that aren’t gacha or matching games? Posted: 01 Mar 2020 07:48 PM PST Seriously, every rpg game I've downloaded in the past week searching for one to try has been a gacha game. I'm tired of them, from a non-whale standpoint. I want something with some kind of depth and I'm fine with spending a few bucks buying it if it has enough positive reviews. [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Mar 2020 04:19 PM PST Are there any plans to bring anything newer from the Final Fantasy series to iOS or IPadOS? Like Final Fantasy VIII, IX, X, X-2 & XII? I have VII, but it's so incredibly played out (both on my iPad & a PlayStation Classic). [link] [comments]
