Apple needs to add a "Mark as Unread" feature to Text Messages Posted: 27 Dec 2019 11:30 AM PST So many times I will open a message and close it, only to forget to reply later. I'm aware of the force touch message preview but there are still times that this occurs and I am sure I'm not the only one - especially considering the 'read message earlier and forgot to reply' messages that I have received myself from friends at times. Simple feature, needs to exist. This has nothing to do with iMessage read receipts. The feature would allow you to "unread" a read normal text or iMessage, similar to what you do in emails and that would put the red notification bubble back over your messages app so you would know that there is a message in there you still want to reply to and haven't. PSA: Do not apply a webcam cover to your Macbook Pro 16" + the story of how my display cracked Posted: 26 Dec 2019 11:30 PM PST I bought a spec'd up Macbook Pro 16", thought it'd be a good idea to add a webcam cover onto it (a super thin one similar to this one) for added privacy and peace of mind. I've done this in the past with all of my old computers (13" 2015 MBP, 15" 2016 MBP) with no issues so didn't think much about it. Long story short, I put my beloved laptop into an incase sleeve which goes into a padded laptop compartment in my carry-on backpack to travel over the holidays. I take it out on Christmas Day and lo-and behold, the laptop is cracked right under the webcam. The computer is basically unusable because the display takes a few minutes to refresh (contents of the screen to change). I bring it to the Apple store and thank god I purchased AppleCare+ because the technician says it will be covered as an accidental damage (which sucks because I'm using 1/2 accidental damage incidents 1 month into owning this machine). Without AppleCare+ the technician told me the repair would cost $1970 CAD (~1k for the display and the rest for replacing the top case because of a touch bar issue). He also said that the repair could take up to 3 weeks because the computer is so new and parts aren't stocked and they haven't repaired this machine yet. Also if anyone has any tips on how to avoid something like this happening to my laptop again or how to best take care of this laptop I'm all ears. I've never had an issues with past Macbooks (I'm typing this on my perfectly fine 13" 2015 MBP with a webcam cover). TLDR: A webcam cover MAY crack your MBP (it happened to me) which can cost almost $2k CAD (without AppleCare+) and take 3 weeks to repair. Image: https://imgur.com/qC6y02b [link] [comments] | ||
Apple Books has pulled me back into reading more. Posted: 26 Dec 2019 11:00 PM PST In late November I decided to browse Apple Books and ended up purchasing a book for like $10. The book was 'Of Mice And Men'. Now going into 2020, I've read 4 books back to back throughout December and just purchased the GOT series for a mere $45! Love the app, the look of the content, and what I'm able to do with it like highlight, bookmark and so on. Very nice. [link] [comments] |
