Longer Battery Life after the WatchOS 6.1 update

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 11:07 PM PDT

I bought a new S5 Apple Watch recently but just updated to 6.1 a few days ago. Feels like my battery life has very much improved. Is it just me, or did y'all get the same result?

Fitbit user looking to jump! (what next?)

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 02:05 AM PDT

Posted in AppleWatch Fitness but got 1 response.

I bought an iphone to keep Google's mitts off my email/phone/browser data.

What are the pros | cons of an AppleWatch.

Here's what i track with my Fitbit:

    1. track outdoor biking graphs of: distance, time, calories, max & avg heart rate, and heart rate zones (fat burn, cardio, peak), especially peak, & map.

    2. walking my dog. same stats as biking.

    3. indoor rowing. categorized as 'workout'. a better fitting category is cool.

    4. diet. daily water intake

    5. sleep stages: awake, rem, light, deep

    6. sleep score

    7. hourly graph of heart rate

    8. resting heart rate

    9. steps, miles walked, floors climbed. goals for each.

my fitbit 2 gets charged every 3 or 4 days.

Thanks for any help or insight!

    Shortcuts on watchOS

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 02:11 AM PDT

I simply love the new Shortcuts app that came with iOS13, but is there a way to add them to my Apple Watch? I'm struggling to understand how to "install" a shortcut icon.

Battery Life: GPS vs. GPS + Cellular

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 12:20 AM PDT

I have the Series 5 GPS-only but I've noticed how convenient it'd be to have the cellular version. My only concern is battery life.

I don't use the watch heavily. I have turned off haptics, turned off app background refresh for example to save battery as well. Most of the time, i just use the watch for time, changing songs on spotify, seeing my heart rate, reading some notifications, and just the simple things.

Main reason why I want to switch to the Cellular version is to be able to leave my phone somewhere and not worry about my watch being disconnected and be unable to receive notifications.

Assuming I use the series 5 cellular the same way i use my current one, will it have a noticeably shorter battery life?

    Sudden battery issue

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 07:54 AM PDT

I have a series 3 that will be 2 years old in May. Since having my watch it has had great battery life. Waking up at 6, working out and coming home about 6pm with 40 ish%. The last 2 days I've been losing about 10-12% and hour and by 5pm it's flashing red at 10%. Anyone else had similar issues? I have apple care on it but I'm somewhat unfamiliar with how that process works or will apple exchange it? Thanks.

Is it possible to remote lock an iPhone from an Apple Watch?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 07:52 AM PDT

Android users seem to have a similar function - when the connection between the watch and the phone is broken, phone auto locks. Is there any way to replicate this functionality in our sphere? I don't mind it being a manual operation - like running an app on the watch to force lock a phone that's out of my physical reach.

Even activating "lost mode" is OK in the extreme, just wondering if there's a way.

[edit] to prevent the inevitable "what could possibly be the use case of this" questions, consider you're walking along the street and your phone is snatched from your hand. You have literally seconds before the thieves throw the phone in airplane mode, at which point they have full access to your Whatsapp / mail / BBC news / Imgur and so on. Not the biometric apps, in principle, but anything "convenient" - which could be a LOT. It would be great if the phone auto locked, preventing this.

Space black titanium vs. Space black stainless steel

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 06:09 AM PDT

Hi everyone, I picked up the SBTi (as pictured) last week. But I'm now thinking about returning it and getting the SBSS before the 14-day period ends. I haven't decided yet.

    Pictures

I enjoy the stronger haptic feedback with SBTi, and how premium the material feels on the wrist. But, I miss the heavier weight of SBSS.

My question is, if you have either the series 5 SBTi or SBSS, what made you choose that case material instead of the other?

Ordered this from WTHSTRAP on Amazon (link in comments). I love the color and design, the lugs match the steel gold color of the case, and the quality seems really good. I just wish it was a couple of mm wider but I definitely recommend this one if you’re looking for a good leather band.

Finding mesh stainless steel but in smaller sizes?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 07:43 PM PDT

    Hey all,

Gave my gf my Series 0 42 mm Apple Watch and wanted to give her a metal mesh band to be a little fancier (shown here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RG3XVLL?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share). Problem is, the 42/44 mm version is too long for her wrist since she has such small wrists, it's just a bit too large. Unlike the plastic bands, there's no options for S/M or M/L and it's expected to be a kind of one size fits all.

Does anyone know what might be able to fix the problem? I've looked at other listings and none give size options and only a few give specs regarding its length/wrist size and nothing seems to fit.

    Thank you for any help!

Pretty impressed to see the battery of my series 5 lasting over a day from barely making it a complete day (lasting around 15-17 hours). Attaching screenshots of the same. Are you getting a similar backup? Any other ways to increase the battery backup are welcome.

Changing App Store account on watch

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 03:54 AM PDT

I have two App Store accounts from 2 different regions. There is a primary account I do most purchases on, iCloud syncing, backups, iMessages, etc. And a secondary account from a different country that has a huge left over balance so I sometimes use it to buy some apps.

My Apple Watch was set up with the primary account. I switched the account on the iPhone to my secondary account to buy some watch apps, and while they installed on the iPhone, the watch gave an error that app could not be installed. I am trying to find a way to switch the store on my watch but can't find it.

Anybody know how to go about doing this without having to set up everything from scratch since I will just download these apps on my watch from this store, and then want to switch back to my primary account.

How can I tell which contacts have an Apple Watch with walkie talkie?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 03:01 PM PDT

I remember I used to be able to see a suggested list on top of all my contacts I could add. But after upgrading my watch and starting from a fresh installed, those suggested contacts aren't there.

Share your watch faces. I'm in a rut where i'm not satisfied with the watch faces, and it would be nice if everyone shared their face so that if someone else is also in the rut they can help. This is mine

    40mm Series 5 w/cellular

Generally speaking, I've been surprised at how useful this thing is - both to stay on top of work, and for the gentle nudges to stay active. I also like tracking my sleep patterns (AutoSleep), though the data are a bit disappointing (insomniac). While I've grown to appreciate Apple's stock silicone watch strap, I prefer the feel of the leather band I bought on teh Big River (Fullmosa), as it allows my skin to breathe better.

    A few minor gripes:

    1. I've found every podcast and audiobook app to be extremely lacking. I find it absurd that not only am I tethered to my iPhone to load files to the watch, but I have to do this manually for every frickin' file. It's like using a PDA from the 1990s.
    2. Even though I've set my watch to background refresh, it takes forever to retrieve new emails. This holds true even when I'm near my phone, or on my home wifi network. Lame.
    3. The app universe is fairly anemic (similar to the Apple TV apps). There just aren't very many apps, and most are minor variations on a theme. I understand that there was some retraction over the past year, as companies like Google withdrew their apps. Still - kinda lame.

Still, I'm impressed - and I hadn't bought one until now because I didn't see the point. I look forward to the evolution of this technology and market.

    A couple of requests:

    1. Could we please get Stitcher to produce a native watch app?
    2. Same question, for Libby (library audiobook platform).
