Did the universe stop making good monitors after the 27" Thunderbolt? Posted: 06 Nov 2019 12:18 PM PST Am I on a futile quest here? I have a 2015 MBP and a Thunderbolt Display. I love everything about this monitor except I wish it were 4k and 32 inches. I just bought a 43" LG monitor thinking what I needed was something huge. But it is just a downer. No camera. Speakers not as good. Screen is way too big for what I'm doing. Does not drive my USB keyboard and mouse peripherals. And the display feels laggy and not as crisp (which I gather can be fixed by switching to mini-display port rather then HDMI input). Like I said, the holy grail for me would be something 4k, 32 inches, with good speakers , and bunch of USB-A ports. Any recommendations? All the monitor reviews out there seem to be focused on either gaming or photo/video editing. I just want a Thunderbolt display but a bit bigger. Is that too much to ask? This $5k HDR thing coming out is not for me. But I would spend like $1k or maybe a bit more for something great. I could also just be convinced to return this LG and keep my Thunderbolt as I haven't sold it yet. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 06 Nov 2019 08:58 PM PST I have an iPhone X purchased on the release of the model. Yesterday I took it out of my pocket only to find the touchscreen is completely unresponsive. I know there is a bulletin about touchscreen issues, but I had my phone repaired once already under this due to ghost touching. Since I had the service done am I ineligible for this? I spoke with Apple support and it seemed like they avoided the question. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
I have a Macbook Air and I don't know how to put it on dark mode Posted: 06 Nov 2019 08:12 PM PST I've researched and the websites all say the same thing: system preferences > general > above appearance there should be a very obvious selection of light or dark mode but I don't have that option, it's just not there. does anyone know how I can fix this? Help. Home Folder not showing Home icon. Posted: 06 Nov 2019 07:48 PM PST My home folder isn't showing the Home icon that every other account on my Mac is showing on the sidebar or in the Users folder. Anyone know of how to fix this? Running macOS Catalina on 2012 Mac Mini [link] [comments] |
[Update] So I bricked it. I updated it from iOS 10.3 to 13.2 and it doesn't chooch Posted: 06 Nov 2019 07:41 PM PST FUCK YEAH BOYS So there's a lot I don't understand about why what didn't work or what it did, but I don't really give a hoot. It goes. I'm just setting up my iphone again. So, I set my 6S to update last night. When I woke up this morning it just showed the apple logo. I tried plugging it in and doing a restore, iTunes wanted to put 10.3.2 back on it, and it's giving me "Unknown error (-39)". What the hell do I do? :( edit: iTunes is updated. It asked me to sign into Apple account again, so I entered my password. Then it sent a verification number. To my phone. I cancelled the sign in. Now the iphone and computer won't connect at all. :( Trying the DFU restore because my phone is pretty F'd anyways. What's it going to hurt? Edit the many-th: Download is slow. With each 100 megs down the time to completion goes up 10 minutes. Just under 3 gigs remain. Wish me luck! Mmmmm rum. Shoutout to r/firewater for helping me pickle my liver for like $2/quart. Oh, only 43 minut.. wait, 44, 41 .. aaaand 78. F OK fuck this, I'm going for a shower. I need one. Y'all are welcome. If I'm being honest I want my phone fixed. But the real driving factor here is I want to beat the shit out of my wife .. in Eggs, Inc. Don't judge me. I want my daily rewards, damn it! 2.9 of 3.46 gigs ... If I kick off tell my wife I win by default [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Nov 2019 06:30 PM PST I'm sorry for such a long title, but it's exactly what happened and I've tried everything I can but for some reason I can't fix it. I plugged my phone with my PC and it was syncing or something when I accidentally pressed a small arrow button next to the iPhone menu to the left side in iTunes. This made my PC stop recognizing my phone and no matter how many times I restart both the phone or PC it doesn't recognize it again. Doesn't even send the message saying if I should trust the PC. When I plug it in my PC says the device is not installed correctly. I also changed the cable and it's the same, does anyone know how to fix this and what that button did? Thanks [link] [comments] |
AirPods - Have to start new each time I pair Posted: 06 Nov 2019 06:18 PM PST Hey guys, I have the second generation AirPods and an iPhone 10. I am using a replacement AirPods case. I won these at a company raffle a couple of years ago and can't return via receipt or warranty. About a month ago, out of the blue, I had to start doing "forget this device", and then fully resetting Airpods to get them to pair again. It's super annoying to do every time, but even though I have other options these are still the best to either work out in or fall asleep. Just wanted to know if anyone had run into a similar issue, and if there was any fix. Thanks [link] [comments] |
GC on DND but still getting notifications on lock screen Posted: 06 Nov 2019 10:02 PM PST I have the iPhone 7 plus, running 12.3.1 I put a group chat on do not disturb. I got a notification - as if it were not on DND. When I open my messages, the crescent was next to the group chat. I deleted the group chat and waited for someone to message the group chat to see if that was the solution. My phone was locked, it vibrated, and show the message on the lock screen. Again, I opened my messages, and the crescent is still next to the group chat. Wondering if anyone else was experiencing this. This is not the first time this has happened. It happens with various group chats at various times. Sometimes DND works, sometimes it doesn't. Definitely think it started happening after one of the more recent iOS updates (which is why I refuse to buy a new iPhone; I'm not dealing with the same nonsense of the future updates and its bugs messing with my "outdated" phone that I havent even finished paying off) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Nov 2019 10:01 PM PST Hi all, I recently received a 2019 Japanese 13-inch MBP for work (Web Developer). When running it on battery, it runs normally until it gets to around 80%. Below this point is when the problem arises, with it never getting below 70%. Then, at around that level, the machine will suddenly turn off. I'm not doing anything particularly strange or specific when it happens, it will just decide to turn off. Sometimes I cant click the trackpad, other times it just goes to sleep. I've actually already had this same problem with a previous macbook, and return/exchanged it the next day. But now with even the newer second device, the same issue happens. When running diagnostics it shows no issues. Also, checking the battery information it all looks good: holding high charge, low number of cycles. A few times when restarting it, it boots up with the battery showing 0% power, but after logging into the account shows the correct amount at around 80%. I read up around about trying to reset the SMC and/or NVRAM/PRAM. I've tried this multiple times on the first machine to no avail. I have yet to try it on the second machine, but it literally just turned itself off the exact same way twice. Should I go for a 3rd replacement or is there something else I can try? Specs: macOS Mojave 10.14.5 MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2019, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports) CPU: 1.4ghz Intel Core i5 8gb 2133mhz DDR3 RAM Thanks [link] [comments] |

iTunes no longer connecting to US store after update Posted: 06 Nov 2019 05:46 AM PST I recently updated my Mac to Catalina. Since then, both iTunes and Apple Music have been giving me trouble and won't play any music. No streaming, nothing from the cloud, nothing previously downloaded to the computer via iTunes/Apple Music. I live in Japan, and my Mac was purchased here, but I am signed in (and have only ever signed in) with a US iTunes account. This has never caused any issues before; using the US account automatically accessed the US iTunes store. Both iTunes and Apple Music still work fine using the US account on my iPhone. Is there any easy fix for this? I miss listening to music on my computer. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Nov 2019 09:07 PM PST Does it take a while to login to your Apple ID on another device? I tried logging into my Apple ID on another iPhone and it asked my other iPhone for a verification code. I typed the verification code in and now it's stuck on - the code number - didn't get a code? - cancel And I can't backspace on the code area. I tried cancelling once and it for sure cancelled.. but that's not what I want. Is this normal? Does it take a while?? Can I leave the phone that's loading alone (meaning dark) will it still work in the background? [link] [comments] |
Macbook Pro Battery Expanded - My fault for keeping it plugged in??? Posted: 06 Nov 2019 07:40 AM PST Hi all - I went to the Genius Bar yesterday about my 13-in Macbook Pro (2014) battery. I asked them if the new battery and case would have the same problem, they said no, but I shouldn't keep it plugged in all the time. I forgot to mention that I use the laptop as a second screen while plugged in to a larger monitor, which won't turn on unless the laptop is plugged in. Is this true? Is there a way to use an external monitor without keeping the laptop plugged in? Mine is not a battery that can be removed, either. [link] [comments] |
Mouse cursor disappearing at certain times Posted: 06 Nov 2019 07:57 PM PST Starting yesterday my cursor started disappearing at random intervals. It was really bugging me and after enough instances I realized it wasn't so random. When I enter a new window or tab, my cursor will disappear. For example, I am on reddit and my cursor is visible, but I click on a video post to watch it and when I enter that video in a new window my cursor is gone, however it is still technically there because I can click around. The only way to get it back is to open up some other menu or right click. This is a small problem but very tedious and irritating. I've tried messing with trackpad/cursor settings but that didn't help. Is this a bug or can I fix something here? [link] [comments] |
iPad Pro 12.9-inch (2nd generation) Charger Posted: 06 Nov 2019 01:24 PM PST So I got this iteration of the iPad as it came out in 2017 and have since lost the charger and cable for it. I've been making due but would like to purchase a wall adapter and cable for this version of the iPad Pro 12.9-inch (2nd generation). I want to get a setup that will charge it the fastest or at least sustain the charge if it's plugged in. However I'm having trouble figuring out which is compatible with my iPad, lighting vs USB-C etc. Any help anyone can provide is greatly appreciated! Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Download to Photos on Mac from iCloud Posted: 06 Nov 2019 07:07 PM PST I just got a new MacBook Pro and setup iCloud photos on both the Photos app on my Mac as well as on my iPhone. I have about 80GB of photos on my MacBook Pro in my Photos library and about 25GB of photos on my iPhone. I usually backup my Photos library file to my external hard drive. When iCloud Photos is finished syncing on my MacBook Pro and on my iPhone I should have all ~105GB of photos in my iCloud right? How do I get them all in my Photos library on my MacBook Pro so I can back that file up to my external hard drive? Will they automatically be downloaded on to my MacBook Pro since I have iCloud photos set up? I'm trying to avoid a situation where I have 80GB on my MacBook Pro, 25GB on my iPhone, and 105GB in my iCloud. I want to essentially have a local file and a backup file that matches the full extent of my iCloud photos library. [link] [comments] |
Will a low power magnet hurt my MacBook Pro? Posted: 06 Nov 2019 07:01 PM PST I have a 15.6 inch tablet that has a magnetic case I keep it in, I have a 2019 MacBook Pro with touchbar and I normally lay the tablet in its case on top of my laptop or keep them together in a backpack, will this cause any harm to my laptop? The magnet is strong but obviously it's just a case and not super powerful. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Should I keep the MacBook Pro 2019 MacBook Pro early-2015? Posted: 06 Nov 2019 06:56 PM PST Hi! First time posting here, so apologies if I've gotten anything wrong. I have put the details of the two devices down below. I put my old MacBook Pro in for repairs; and it ended up needing a new keyboard, trackpad and battery top case. This cost $914. I had been using the laptop for a little over three years and it was otherwise fine, if not a bit slow at times. Due to some work issues, upcoming travel and slow repairs time I took the (maybe too impulsive...) plunge and purchased one of the new MBPs. I was able to used my education discount and after Apple Care + one upgrade, it was $3742. I've only been using the new MBP for a day, but there have been some CPU issues (so currently chatting with Apple support on that front). I wonder if I shouldn't take advantage of the 14-day return policy and return it? I know that I'd get used to it, but I really haven't been enjoying the butterfly keyboard and have no use for the trackpad/touch ID. The only benefit that I can really see is it's slightly lighter with more storage. Edit to include that I'd love to be able to extend how long these products last as well. Am I missing anything else? Late 2006 iMac with Windows 10? Posted: 06 Nov 2019 06:31 PM PST Hi everyone. I've seen videos on youtube with people using Windows 10 on their Late-2006 Core 2 Duo iMacs. It seems like it works pretty well. However I couldn't find any proper tutorials showing me how to do it. I know how to install Windows 7 however. Would it work if I installed Windows 7 32-Bit including the bootcamp drivers, and then later install Windows 10 using Windows Media Creation Tool? Is this ideal? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Nov 2019 06:14 PM PST Hello, I have contacts syncing with both iCloud and my Google account. I have a contact on my phone that does not appear on my iPad, Mac, and Google Account. So it appears to be a "phone only" contact, if such a thing exists. How do I make it sync with Google and iCloud? [link] [comments] |

Connecting to NFS share on iPad Posted: 06 Nov 2019 05:47 PM PST Is it possible to connect to NFS shares on the iPad? Wether it be through the files app for another third party app. I'm not too picky just looking to get a couple network shares mounted. I know the files app supports SMB but I'm trying to avoid sharing out my directories via SMB. [link] [comments] |
Bluetooth headset does not work on a multitude of apps. Requesting helpbideas please. Posted: 06 Nov 2019 01:33 PM PST So this request for help is regarding my iPhone and iPad only. I have 2 separate blue parrot 450XT headsets. Headset a is paired to my iPad. Headset b is paired to my iPhone. Headset b works as normal in any and all phone calls. Unknown how it works via facetime. Issues I am having: while using facetime audio via my iPad and headset a; I can hear the caller but they cannot hear me. While using Facebook messenger video chat: Headset A on my iPad I can hear them, they cannot hear me. Headset b on my phone does not work at all with Facebook video messenger. All audio input and output is routed through the iPhone. I have switched headsets with devices with the same result. Any ideas? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Nov 2019 11:14 AM PST I was gifted with an Apple TV+ sub with my shiny new iPhone 11 purchase and it works fine, but I'm looking for other streaming options as the screen is just a smidge too small. Has anyone had any luck streaming to a Windows 10 browser? Nothing works so far, but oddly the service does work using the native browser on my Samsung S8, which isn't ideal as the screen is smaller yet again. [link] [comments] |
