Finder: Hidden attributes for music, pictures, and video folders. Posted: 01 Sep 2019 03:28 PM PDT This tip was told me by an Apple Engineer, after filling a suggestion on their bug report system. I was suggesting Apple to provide finder with columns to see the codec a video was encoded, the duration, the dimension in pixels of a picture, the lenght of a music, etc. The answer was: this already exists but it is hidden. For fuck sake! Here is how you enable it.
Enable the columns you want, put your files on these folders. Now you can rename the folders to whatever you want and move them to another place. They will hold the new columns. [link] [comments]

Office 365 - Can't enable autosave Posted: 01 Sep 2019 04:15 PM PDT Hello With my university account I receive O365. I use the uni account as the licence account to use the programs and my personal account to store all my documents (5GB is enough for me). For roughly two months now I just can't enable the autosave function as it's greyed out. https://imgur.com/a/9akIybM The document is stored on onedrive so I have no idea why this error comes up. If I open the same document over the browser UI and then choose to open it in my Word application it works fine. Any ideas? [link] [comments]
[Help needed] burning Windows ISO onto a USB with MacOS Mojave Posted: 01 Sep 2019 10:36 PM PDT Hello, I've run into trouble trying to burn Windows ISO onto a usb to put windows on my new computer. Mainly, the files will say they've been successfully burnt, but no matter what happens, the new computer always boots to the BIOS screen (the partitioned drive changes nothing). I've reformatted the disks, unmounted/mounted, and nothing works. I've tried using 3rd party burning programs, Terminal, and my friends Linux computer. Please help! TL:DR: I've tried multiple ways of using my Mac with Mojave to burn a Windows ISO onto a flash drive for new computer, need help figuring out if using my Mac for it is even an option [link] [comments]

Posted: 01 Sep 2019 09:05 PM PDT Hello, I have a strange problem with Keynote: when I draw lines or try to modify them, it starts to lag sometimes for several minutes. I can still use other apps normally, the problem is only keynote... Does anyone already had this kind of troubles, and/or knows how to solve it? [link] [comments]
Problem with MacOS shared folder Posted: 02 Sep 2019 12:40 AM PDT Hi guys! I recently got a Mac mini 2018. The Mac is connected to my home network with an Ethernet cable and a western digital hard disk is plugged via USB. I'm experiencing an annoying issue with the shared folder. Basically I'm sharing 2 folders from two partitions of the aforementioned HD. When I try to connect with my MacBook Pro everything is fine, I can see the Mac mini in the finder right in the sidebar but once I restart the Mac mini for whatever reason then I cannot see it in the finder anymore and the only way to fix this is to manually reset the sharing folder from the option in the settings tab of the Mac mini. Do you have any idea of what's going on? [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Sep 2019 03:42 PM PDT I'm looking for a lightweight and battery-friendly browser (High Sierra). I'm not interested in any particular feature or in a good-looking interface, I just need it for a basic browsing. Oh, I'd like it to be relatively easy to install (easier than Dillo or Lynx). Thanks for the help [link] [comments]

MacBook Pro 2017 won’t automatically restart during update Posted: 01 Sep 2019 11:46 AM PDT Every time I update my MacBook, it eventually shuts down but never restarts on its own. I have to press the power button myself. The update always installs and it ends up being fine. Is this normal? [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Sep 2019 01:59 PM PDT Does anyone here have experience or recommendations regarding converting old VHS tapes directly onto a Mac hard drive? There are lots "grabber/converter" devices available that take a VHS player component output and link to a USB input - but i don't trust Amazon reviews. A scan of this subreddit for "VHS" got nothing. Edit: any recommendations regarding grabber/converter devices would be appreciated. They are all cheap though they seem to very on how they convert the analog to digital. So looking for advice on what works and does not damage my Mac. [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Sep 2019 10:03 AM PDT So I am thinking of the best way to implement the alarm clock that would play podcasts on my MacBook Pro. The computer usually stays plugged in with an open lid during night. I can schedule the computer to wake up at specified time through Settings -> Energy Saver -> Schedule. But I am not sure how to proceed. Should I create an apple script to loop until 6am and then open Podcasts and play or should I create cron Job? Any ideas are welcome. Thank you [link] [comments]
Random freezes on my 13" Early 2015 MacBook Pro Posted: 01 Sep 2019 03:08 AM PDT For months now my computer randomly just stops totally working. Screen halts, trackpad and keyboard doesn't work and it begins to get ridiculously hot very quickly. I initially thought it was caused by my headphone because it was usually plugged in when it started happening. I've since gone months without using a headphone and it still occurs. The only app that has been constantly on when this happens has been my browser. And in the past few months, I've switched between Safari, Firefox, Chrome and Brave but it seems to make no difference as it still happens with all. This started months ago, a little while after I upgraded to Mojave if I remember correctly. I came across this article from 2017 that mentions something similar but none of the steps are relevant to me. There is also no observable pattern regarding the intervals of it happening. Sometimes it doesn't happen for weeks/months, other times it happens multiple times within 24 hours. I'll appreciate any help I can get. Thanks. [link] [comments]

Some of my iCloud Drive files are not available on my Macs and available on web/iPhone Posted: 01 Sep 2019 04:54 AM PDT About 2 days ago I wanted to open my numbers sheet on my work MacBook and got info that file does not exists. Also "Documents" tab on Finder couldn't be opened. Almost all my files from iCloud Drive were missing. I checked, and these files were visible and I could open them both on web iCloud and iPhone. I tried unchecking/checking iCloud Drive from preferences, but then only files synced. I tried - killall bird - rm -rf /Library/Applications\ Support/CloudDocs - reboot and after 5-6 hours some files came back, but not all. I ignored that, uses web numbers for a while and thought that maybe It need more time to sync. Today I opened my personal MacBook and this happened again. "Documents" couldn't be opened, files are missing. Checked again on iPhone/web and everything is on its place. I also web to recently deleted on web and there are no files there. Work MacBook is up to date, personal is on Catalina beta. [link] [comments] |
