My iPad got really weird after the 13.1 update Posted: 25 Sep 2019 10:56 AM PDT I have a 2017 iPad 128GB that up until yesterday hasn't had a single problem, no hiccups whatsoever. After yesterday's new iPadOS update a lot of things are out of control.
These are some pretty major problems. Most people seem happy with the update. What do you guys think might be the problem? [link] [comments]

List of "External Drive" compatible apps? Posted: 25 Sep 2019 11:05 AM PDT Looking for a good list of which apps have been updated to take advantage of direct access to external drives. Here is the list so far:
What apps are you aware of that allow the use of external drives? Let me know and I'll add them to this list. [link] [comments]

Ipad (5th Gen) with IpadOS 13.1 is not multitasking. What am I doing wrong? Posted: 25 Sep 2019 11:54 AM PDT I'm trying to do the split screen but every time I drag an app it just opens another page on the home screen. The option to multitask is on in the settings, it just won't. Does anyone else have this problem? [link] [comments]
iPadOS no longer has double-tap to zoom in Safari? Posted: 25 Sep 2019 07:32 AM PDT One thing I do all the time in Safari is double-tap on a block of text to zoom it to fill the screen and ignore the extraneous navigation and other non-content, but that no longer seems to work in iPadOS, possibly due to the mouse emulation changes related to desktop-class browsing. Does anyone know if there is a new gesture to replace that? It's in my muscle memory and not having it work anymore is quite jarring. [link] [comments]

Posted: 25 Sep 2019 10:51 AM PDT I'm just trying to get an idea of what to realistically expect from iPadOS. I got my iPad (2019 Air) back in July and have loved it, and one of the things that astonished me was just how smooth and bug free iOS was. Last night I updated to iPadOS and that quickly changed. The keyboard is buggy and likes to jump around by itself or disappear entirely. Apps have crashed several times. There's static/distortion sounds when using headphones (tested multiple pairs, same thing with all of them). Every so often when I go to load a new page in Safari it gets stuck half way loading, and attempting to stop it loading or close the tab results in touch becoming completely unresponsive. Touch sometimes doesn't register at all when I'm in the app switcher view, and I have to swipe up numerous times before apps close. Rotation is messed up and when I first unlock my device it's almost always in portrait mode for a brief second. The reminders widget was glitched and not working properly at first. It feels like a beta version not like a full release. Most of the bugs are minor/liveable, but the touch and internet issues in particular basically make my iPad unusable when they occur. I guess I'm wondering what to expect? Is this amount of bugs normal for the initial release of a new iOS version? Or is iPadOS an especially buggy release? If it is normal, does a bug fix update usually come quite quickly? Or is it going to be weeks/months before these bugs are smoothed out? I'm just trying to decide whether to revert to iOS 12.4.1 now while I still can, or ride it out and hope for bug fixes. In its current state it's much less pleasant to use than iOS 12 was, but obviously if we can expect bug fixes in a few days or something there's not much point reverting. [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Sep 2019 12:56 PM PDT This is for a business kiosk use for sign-ups, but i would like to be able to utilize the camera to capture who's using it for security purposes. Bonus if it can upload the pictures to iCloud or Google Drive. [link] [comments]

How to Slide to Type on iPadOS (and why it annoys me!) Posted: 25 Sep 2019 12:02 PM PDT One of the biggest features I was looking forward to was the introduction of swipe typing on iOS 13 and iPadOS 13. On my iPhone Xs Max, it works just as you would expect...just swipe (or slide) on the default keyboard and you can type by moving between/through/across the needed letters for each word. IE: the keyboard looks and works like it did before...with the added feature of being able to slide to type. AWESOME! However, upon updating my iPad 2018 to iPadOS I was surprised when I tried to do this and it didn't work. In figuring out how to enable the feature, I found a difference between it and the iPhone counterpart that kind of pisses me off and I see no good reason for. So first, how to enable and use the Slide to type feature on iPad:
Now here is the "Gotcha!". The slide to type feature on the iPad only works when the keyboard is in its "Floating" mode, not using the full size standard keyboard layout. To get the keyboard to float:
So the floating keyboard is kind of cool. Being able to position it on the screen out of the way of what you are currently working on is great. So to be clear, this isn't anti-floating keyboard. I just wish the slide to type feature also worked on the full size/standard mode. The reasons I found online for this was that using the full size keyboard was not conducive to swiping to type. I think perceiving it similar to standard 2 hand/thumb typing in which its hard or impossible to reach the center of the screen from either side... I found this angering...as swipe to type is often done with a single hand. In my case one hand to hold the iPad and the other to swipe on the keyboard to type (think like how you might swipe to scroll while in a browser). I see no reason to limit the slide to type feature to a niche mode of the keyboard. Still, better than no swipe to type I guess [link] [comments]
Odd Reddit App Behavior in iPad Dock Posted: 25 Sep 2019 11:38 AM PDT At the bottom of the iPad screen is an area called the Dock (I think), it contains Safari, iMessage, etc., as well as a few icons for your most recently used apps. With the iOS 13.0 or 13.1 update, suddenly the Reddit app will not launch from this area. Other apps work fine, and Reddit launches normally from the main screen area. But although the app icon appears in the Dock if I've used it recently, it will not launch from there. What's up with that? Anyone else seeing this? [link] [comments]
To Buy Or Not To Buy A Smart Keyboard... That Is The Question. Posted: 25 Sep 2019 06:36 AM PDT I have this dilemma... ... should I get a smart keyboard for my iPad Air 2019 or not? I love the iPad. I love how portable it is and I have the LTE version. And believe it or not, I'm getting REAL work done using the apple pencil. I'm brainstorming and writing and coming with solutions and while I have to type it all up again on my MacBook, there is a certain freedom in using a stylus. And this is what my iPad can do that my 2015 MacBook Pro can not. It is a thinking machine. I can put my thoughts down on projects so fast and everything is so intuitive. But I can't type on it... ... and to be honest, I have two options now. FIRST - Keep my iPad + MacBook Pro combo. Nothing can replace the MB keyboard. It comes with a bigger screen, a file system I can actually use and my workflow is far faster. But it is heavy to carry and I usually leave it at home. So I can use the iPad with the Pencil and my MB Pro for actual typing. SECOND - Get a keyboard for it. I don't want the Apple Smart Keyboard but the Logitech one seems nice. The downside here is that I've already bought the UAG case ($59) and a Logitech K380 (I think), keyboard that's another $39. So if I buy a keyboard case now, I throw $90 down the drain. And I'm not even sure having a keyboard on the iPad can make me THAT more productive. So what do you guys think? Will buying a case with a keyboard change my life for the better or using a MacBook is always a better solution? Am I just vain because I want to carry a sexy device with me instead of an old MacBook Pro or can I actually get a real benefit from it? One thing is for sure, I will keep the MacBook. I can't rely only on the iPad. If it wasn't for the $90 I've already spent, this question would have been a no brainer. But taking into account that... it is hard. I'm afraid I'll pay another $120 - $150, end up hating because it is not ergonomic or for whatever arbitrary reason I come up with and then just use my MB all the time. [link] [comments]
