The Ipad Mini 5 with pencil is forcing me to become more productive and artistic lol. Posted: 11 May 2019 11:12 AM PDT I make this statement but only after I purchased 2 apps after long review (too long i should not have waited). I have been using the apple pencil since i purchased the Ipad mini 5 for about a month now. I really was not impressed with it from a productivity standpoint. Sure the apple pencil is the best "stylus" type device on any platform but something about using it with apple notes wasn't quite cutting it for me. Felt like a glorified, expensive stylus...Ultimately almost like a mouse pointer as well. That was until i purchased notability...Holy cow let me tell you i cannot believe i waited this long to purchase this app...This note taking app has completely changed my feeling about productivity on the ipad mini now. I did not feel like using the apple pencil with apple notes was going to be able to make me go paperless which is truly what i wanted. Notability changed everything for me. Its very in-depth yet easy to access and use. Makes a lot of sense when you are using it and now? I can't recommend the pencil without the app. I reviewed notability and good notes but i really only wanted to purchase 1 and im sure both have its pros and cons but i just took the leap of faith with notability because i did not want to buy both. I can't look back now. this app alone is going to handle all my note taking and makes the pencil feel like its worth, almost as if it justifies the high cost of the pencil now. This brings me to my next app i purchased... Procreate...OMG so i always wanted to get into art really as a hobby if anything because i really do suck at art. Procreate is the perfect solution for me lol. I have always had visions of an artistic painting in my head and was never really able to put it down on paper...procreate has allowed me to get this vision in my head on to something other than inside my head. I am blown away by this app. Again...the pencil makes all the difference with this particuar app. Same situation with Notability...its easy to use and access and understand...I love it! These 2 apps alone are pushing me to write more and be more creative in ways i have never really accomplished using any other type of tablet and pen/pencil or media of any type for that matter. What began as "i like the ipad mini" for me became a "i don't know how i am going to continue doing this stuff without it because I LOVE YOU" device. This is exactly what i couldn't figure out before those apps but now truly understand. This brings me now to my final point... I feel rejuvenated! I feel productive, I feel like i can accomplish anything and everything i want now with the ipad mini and it is forcing me to stop being lazy with creativity and work because i have nothing holding me back now and thats just with the 2 apps i added to the arsenal. Summer time is coming...I have slimmed down my EDC contents and also do not want to carry a backpack this summer. The ipad mini 5 literally can be my replacement media/computer/laptop for on the go use. A Mini Productivity juggernaut now is how i feel about it. It sits so perfectly in my sling bag now and keeps the weight and bulk way down. If i somehow add a keyboard to this device, i think i may even only use the ipad going forward. I wonder if any of you with the ipad mini 5 right now felt like i did at some point and have now been completely turned around. What turned it around for you? I am going to love this thing badly now lol. [link] [comments]
Posted: 11 May 2019 12:13 PM PDT I have a 12.9 inch iPad Pro 1st gen, and it is both way too big (imo), and starting to show it's age. Is the iPad mini 5 a reasonable upgrade? I can get one for about $159 with trade in. [link] [comments]
Deciding between note-taking apps Posted: 11 May 2019 11:51 AM PDT I own an iPad 2018 version and got the Pencil for my birthday a few days ago. Now I'm looking for a good note-taking app, mainly for my japanese lessons. I found that Noteability and Nebo (also Goodnotes I think) can recognize japanese but I'm wondering how good it would work ... since my handwriting is kinda messy (once it's big, then it's small again, etc) I wonder if those apps can really convert Hiragana or Katakana (or even Kanji) properly into typed text because that's what I'd want to use it for ... if it also can process Hiragana into Kanji then that would be the best possible outcome for me. Also I'd like to take notes in pdf files (to write the meaning of a kanji for example) so the app should be able to provide that feature too. So can someone here, using any of the 3 apps or their note-taking app, try out how good it supports japanese and recommend me which to use? I don't want to just buy it to try it out since it costs money and if I can't use it in the end it's wasted money for me. Not sure if I'm not asking for too much though.... (Here is some Hiragana table for trying to copy something to see if it's recognized if anyone is willing to try it out for me: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiragana#/media/File:Table_hiragana.svg ) [link] [comments]
What is your favorite note-taking app for iPad? Posted: 11 May 2019 11:22 AM PDT I recently got an iPad, and I tend to use pen and paper when working as it helps me think, so I get a Pencil alongside it. I want to use the iPad for taking notes, and I've seen as Apple Notes, Notability, Evernote, OneNote, and Goodnotes as options. What is your favorite app, and why? [link] [comments]
why no PIP for 3rd party video chat apps Posted: 11 May 2019 11:06 AM PDT Hello internet friends! For the last few years I've worked off of a 15 inch MacBook Pro and recently purchased an 11 inch iPad Pro to see how much of my workload could be done on a much more portable device. Turns out I can do about 90% of my job from an iPad (work consists of zoom/google meet chats, working out if G Suite productivity apps, Slack and Zendesk). One of the biggest things that is stopping me from moving that needle to 100% is being able to have my zoom or google meet video chat run in split view while having a google doc or sheet up in the other half of the screen. The audio still works but I manage an entirely remote team of people so I try to make a point of having them see me when I'm talking to them. The only app that is an exception is FaceTime, which will run PiP while in other apps. This leads me to believe it's a security thing rather than a hardware thing (which makes sense). How likely is it that Apple would open that feature up to 3rd party app devs? [link] [comments]
29w charger for 12.9 2017 model? Posted: 11 May 2019 02:14 PM PDT I'm considering to get one usb c to lightning cable & a big watts adapter, probably from anker, so that I can charge it at 29w instead of the default 12w. I saw 2018 pro pads has batter charger and a reviewer said it's not hot at all thus no apparent risk of shortened battery lifespan. But this bundle charger is still 18w not 29w, quite lower. Besides mine is 2017 model. So I am not sure I can use it in peace or not. Some say the effect against battery lifespan of fast charging is a myth yet some others say although fast charging techniques have detailed control to minimize heat, the effect is still small but not non-existence. I think it has some point that the heat somehow affects lithium battery lifespan. Personally I'm totally okay to use my phone with fast charging since I bought this at pretty great price as a second hand phone. I can feel the battery life decreased quite a bit(not sure how much the fast charge accelerated though. I used it pretty long so it's natural to see depreciation even without fast charing) but the convenience outweighs the potential or possible affect. For this iPad, however, I paid quite bucks, time and so much efforts so want to use it as long ad possible, avoiding any effects. So if anyone uses 29w charge and feel heat, I might just be content with current 12w. I'm not a heavy game or duty user so can live with it, although it is maybe a little bit slow and inconvenient. If not, any recommendations for lightning to usb cable from 3rd party? I don't want to buy one from Apple Store because it feels overpriced for only 1m length cable, like many other Apple accessories, and not very durable either. [link] [comments]

GoodNotes: can you make a table of contents? Posted: 11 May 2019 01:32 PM PDT If I have a notebook that I've added 10 different PDFs to, I can bookmark the first page of each of the 10 PDFs so in thumbnail view they are easy to find. But can I make a page at the beginning with the title and maybe a link to jump to that page? As of this time, I've been just bookmarking the first page of each PDF and then scrolling through the "favorites" tab. But at the minimum, I'd like to add titles/description since I can't see the words on the page in this view. Hope I've explained this adequately [link] [comments]

Posted: 11 May 2019 01:31 PM PDT I'm trying to record something on my iPad in GarageBand with an external mic. I can see that the mic is powered on, but I can't tell if my iPad is automatically using my external mic or if it defaults to the built-in mic. hoping someone here might know of a way to check what device is being used for recording? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Cleaning the Apple Folio Keyboard Posted: 11 May 2019 07:31 AM PDT I recently got myself the Apple Smart Keyboard Folio, but noticed it does collect fingerprints. Does anyone know a safe way to remove them? I'm paranoid of damaging the darn thing since its so new. Ive tried water. But they still remain.. [link] [comments]
Posted: 11 May 2019 01:27 PM PDT Today I'm going to buy an iPad Air 2019. Actually, it will be my first apple product purchase. I'm not planning to buy a pencil as of now, but I'll, if taking written notes is impossible otherwise, that is using a capacitive stylus. Any tips regarding this? Like is it necessary to get ipencil, to get things like written notes done? Or any app capable of working fluidly without pencil? PS. Any other iOS/iPad specific tips are welcome, as I have no clue about the os. [link] [comments]
Posted: 11 May 2019 01:23 PM PDT I have one, maybe obvious question about this eventual mouse support: If we end up having it, will it be Magic Mouse only or could it extend to the Magic Trackpad or even Logitech mice for example as we've seen with the Crayon. [link] [comments]

Reddit iPad app - How to remove anything but News - Home - Popular from top bar? Posted: 11 May 2019 11:52 AM PDT On the official iphone reddit app I only see News - Home - Popular (at the top). I love this simplicity. I installed the official app on my ipad and I see News - Home - Popular - Discussion - Sports - Game of Thrones... and the list literally scrolls endlessly to stuff I have zero interest in. I turned off "trending" in notifications but that didn't do the trick. Any idea how to get of anything but the basic three? Cheers! [link] [comments]
Posted: 10 May 2019 06:51 PM PDT Hi, just bought an Apple Pencil for my iPad Mini5. Other than using it as a stylus or writing a note I am lost. What I want to do is color just like using colored pencils in a coloring book. I would also like to use it with MS Office to select text, so far all it does is draw on my documents. Is that possible or do I need to use Pages? Anyway I am brand new to the pencil so any You Tube videos, or other how to use it is what I am looking for. And a good coloring app that imitates colored pencil would be great. I can't draw so I just want to color. Thanks, Christine [link] [comments]
Using guided access on split view Posted: 11 May 2019 09:28 AM PDT It looks like Apple prohibits using guided access in split view. I'm looking to wall mount an iPad, and I'm looking for ways to display the Home app and music app and the same time, while preventing people from getting into the rest of the iPad. Any suggestions or workarounds to the guided access restriction? [link] [comments]

Best way (preferably free) to screen record ipad? (other than the inbuilt option) Posted: 11 May 2019 01:36 AM PDT So as you might already know ipad's inbuilt screen recording function just sucks a lot, and I am trying to make educational videos using my ipad 2018 and the apple pencil. I don't want any fancy controls, I just want the reliablity that when I end the screen recording, the video is gonna be there. I would really prefer not to pay anything if it can be done for free. Another alternative I thought of was Duet display app using which I can draw on the ipad to get outputs on my pc and the screen record my windows pc, but I am not sure if it'll work and even to test it out I will have to shell out INR 800 (I am from India) which I can't really afford very comfortably rn. So if you guys know of any free duet display alternative, that will be pretty cool too. Also, if any of you can confirm whether duet display will work for my cause or not will also be great. I basically either want a reliable screen recorder with audion for my ipad or as an alternative want to be able to draw using my ipad on my windows pc screen. Please help me out, I am trying to do something good here :) [link] [comments]
