Brydge Pro keyboard arrived! Looks so good with the 12.9.

    Posted: 14 May 2019 09:29 AM PDT

This is insane! Will we ever be getting the split keyboard on the 2018 iPad Pro as is available on other iPad models?

    Posted: 14 May 2019 05:11 AM PDT

Hey everyone!~ So I finally bit the bullet and bought myself an 11" iPad Pro! And while I will occasionally use it while travelling, I bought it primarily as kind of a TV substitute since I don't actually have a telly at home (could never really be bothered haha since my home is pretty tiny).

So since my iPad spends most of its time with me in bed snuggles I'm really REALLY struggling with its onscreen keyboard.

I saw that other iPad models have a keyboard that can either be undocked or split, but somehow Apple removed this feature from the 2018 iPad Pro? Why?! This is insane! Even Apple's own support document shows the feature as available:

    https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT207521

Except... "The split keyboard isn't available on iPad Pro (12.9-inch) or iPad Pro 11-inch."

    Whisky Tango Foxtrot?!

What's even more ridiculous — apart from the obvious lack of ergonomics — is that in landscape the onscreen keyboard takes up HALF of the screen real estate on the 11" iPad Pro. This is completely unnecessary on what is otherwise an awesome device.

    Apple! Please!! Fix!!!

New Apple user, what's your favorite tips/tricks; I'm having a hard time getting up to speed

    Posted: 14 May 2019 01:47 PM PDT

I recently purchased an iPad (128 GB Silver Wi-Fi + Cellular 6th gen) and it is my first Apple product. For the 'seamless' user interface that Apple supposedly has, I don't find it all that well designed in many regards but I know I'm basically a noob at this Apple stuff.

TLDR: I'd love to hear any of your favorite usability tips or favorite websites that will help get me up to date on Apple tips/tricks, other than Reddit :)

Please help me understand any settings or improvements that I can implement to 'fix' these issues for me:

    1. It's extremely easy to change off of the screen/app you're using.

For me this means that when my toddler is poking at the screen, he often closes the app we're looking at or just switches to another accidentally. I have been somewhat able to fix it with the accessibility settings if I turn on guided access but maybe there's something else I can do to disable the hand palm swipe to another screen gesture?

    1. It's very difficult to gesture to bring up the open apps (swiping up at the bottom of the screen, mainly when I'm on the home page with the app icons not in a different app).

Is there any way to open the menu with what's open or close them faster? This is the one gesture I find that is not overly sensitive.

    1. After mistyping a word, it won't let me move the cursor to the middle of the word to fix a typo.

Do you really have to just delete the whole word if what you want doesn't show up in autocorrect? For one other example, I tried typing in a word in MS OneNote and I needed to correct it to be capitalized.

    1. I installed the swiftkey keyboard as I'm used to swyping on Android but it doesn't always stay on that keyboard as default and I find myself accidentally hitting the change keyboard or bringing up the emoji keyboard (which I have no desire to use); any tips?

    1. Swiping on notifications on the lock page is opening them but usually I'm just trying to dismiss them.

For example, I swiped right on a missed Facetime call notification and it immediately called the sender; same with an Apple news notification, it opened the article instead of dismissing the notification; how do I stop this behavior? does the same thing happen if you swipe left?

    1. Any battery charging/consumption tips?

The iPad seems to want to only sleep when I try to power it off. I'll end up with quite a few apps that are running after I've finished with them and the battery doesn't seem to last very long. Is there an average amount of screen on time that most people get before needing to charge? Mine last shows 4.5 hr approx before the battery was low. The iPad is approx. 2 months old, 6th generation (purchased new from Amazon).

Bonus random question: any way to use my iPad to basically show my computer desktop and be able to write notes on the image. I was trying to organize my computer files and wanted to make some notes with images. From what I could find, it sounded basically like I'd need something to stream my desktop to my ipad?

Does it annoy anyone else that we get vertical black bars instead of horizontal ones when using an external display? Is there a way to stop it?

    Posted: 14 May 2019 01:07 PM PDT

Every display I own is 16:9.. every console I've ever had has worked at that aspect ratio.. every pc, every Mac.. everything. I kinda want my iPad to do the same if I'm eventually gonna use it as my main device.. or at least if there were some options to change it,,

Using iPad Productively in Graphic Design

I recently bought an iPad and was surprised how well you can actually work from anywhere.

For me the free tool called Vectornator helped me a lot with graphic design.

    https://itunes.apple.com/app/apple-store/id1219074514?pt=118587639&ct=ipad_reddit&mt=8

What tools are you using and what do you think about Vectornator?

    Fade In on iPad?

    Posted: 14 May 2019 02:23 PM PDT

    Hey all,

I'm looking to pick up the new iPad air pretty soon. I'm hoping to mainly use it for writing / media consumption. So my question is, has anyone used Fade In on their iPad? How does it compare to the desktop version?

    Thanks!

Why can’t I sign in with an Apple ID in settings?

    Posted: 14 May 2019 02:04 PM PDT

    https://ibb.co/9TPbxVV

After restoring the iPad, and setting it up to sign in without an Apple ID, I noticed that in settings the iCloud sign in box is blanked out so I cannot sign in with an Apple ID. What shall I do?

This is what it looks like on my XR: https://ibb.co/5KPqBqc

This topic probably comes up often, but what is using all this storage on my iPad?

    Posted: 14 May 2019 06:30 AM PDT

Here is my current storage breakdown:

    https://i.imgur.com/fe8p1vx.jpg

If I add up all the top apps using storage pictured here, it adds up to just 14.37 GB. I pretty much ONLY use Procreate, Lightroom, Spotify, Reddit and Chrome on my iPad.

What in the "Other" category is using ~75% of all my available storage?

Buying iPad Pro 11 inch + apple pencil from website? How does it works? The process and steps?

    Posted: 14 May 2019 12:26 PM PDT

    1. Is it better to buy from the apple website if I wish to buy the iPad Pro 11 and apple pencil?
    2. How does the education discount work? How can I apply for it?
    3. How does ipad pro warranty work (applecare)? Do I automatically get applecare if I buy from the apple website? Does applecare apply separately for ipad pro and pencil or for both? Is it different from applecare+?
    4. Is it better to pick it up or delivery (which is safer) ?
    5. Would it be better to buy from a different store like Bestbuy or Costco?

    Surface Pro or iPad Pro?

    Posted: 14 May 2019 05:39 AM PDT

Notetaking with a stylus is very important to me.

I already have a somewhat decent gaming laptop, I do not plan on gaming on this (if I do it'll be very casual)

    What generation should I buy?

    I'm also a biochem student.

When I view the pencil-written notes on my PC browser (Chrome or IE), the notes are shrunken so I can't actually read what I wrote. Anyone know how to fix this issue?

    Posted: 14 May 2019 06:39 AM PDT

Hey all, in about a month im going to upgrade from 2017 ipad pro 12.9 to 2018 pro 12.9 and i am watching videos on youtube about it to get hype and there are so many videos saying the 2018 is super fragile and breaks incredibly easy and bends. is this an inflated issue like with iphone bendgate(3 iphone 6 in my family never bent or broke and non of my dozens of friends ever had issues) or something really bad?
