Macbook "Pinch to Zoom" trackpad gesture keeps resetting Posted: 11 May 2019 10:34 AM PDT Every few days this gesture resets in System Preferences --> Trackpad --> Scroll and Zoom --> Zoom in or out. That is, the gesture stops working and the box is un-checked when I go in there . Works again as soon as I check it. Then repeat a few days later. Last year I registered for MacOs public beta. It went nice for few months then I started experiencing the 'wifi hardware not installed' error. I looked up the internet to find that resetting NVRAM and SMC will work. It didn't. I also tried Diagnostics but didn't work either. I thought it is actually a wifi hardware problem. What happens is, every, lets say 20th time I open the macbook, the problem is gone. Wifi hardware is found and connects to wifi automatically. Android user here! Converting to iPhone, but which one should I get? Posted: 11 May 2019 08:52 PM PDT Hey guys, I'm an owner of the LG G6, but after two Android phones that have taken dramatic slow-downs after less than 2 years of use, I've had enough! I want my phone to last a few years. I know that iPhones are famous for their longevity with software updates and such. With a $550-ish (realistically, around $500) budget, I was debating between: iPhone 7/7+ NEW condition iPhone 8/8+ REFURBISHED condition Waiting for the iPhone 11 so I can get an iPhone 8/8+ So. Is there a significant upgrade between the 7 to the 8? I have searched numerous reviews about this, and most people say that the camera is significantly better on the 8 and the processor is better. But, by how much? Similarly for Android phones, I don't mind getting a chip that is a year older. For practical day to day use, is the 8 any faster than the 7? How about the battery life? Battery is probably the most important factor to me, as well as the overall speed and fluidity. I don't want any annoying & frequent juttering like I find in my current phone. Also, would the 8 last that much longer than the 7? I just don't know if spending the extra $150 for the 8 would be worth it. I'm swaying toward the 8+ because of the strong chip and 4K 60p recording, but what do you guys say? Thanks for the help :) EDIT: Just as a side note, I don't use wireless charging, and I want to avoid the XR because of the face ID. Adult student (28) buying help. Creativity+nightschool Posted: 11 May 2019 06:59 PM PDT I start summer at my local cummunity college in 2 weeks. I currently work construction but have always loved creating art and music. I also don't have any forms of entertain in my apartment beside a ps4, tv, chrome cast, and 2007 iMac lmao so if I can get extra entertainment out of my purchase even better Undecided between iPad Pro 11" and the MacBook Pro 13" i7. Drawing on the iPad Pro with pencil 2 felt amazing at bestbuy. Got me really excited to keep drawing instead of having random canvases and sketch books hidden under my couch. Ive also been using Logic and Reason to create music for 10+ years now and don't think I'll ever stop so I want to keep using Logic (main reason I want Mac over pc). This post is mostly about cost/longevity of the two products as far as creating media and stuff. Anyone have both? I feel like app availability makes a HUGE difference. Bootcamp disk not bootable Posted: 11 May 2019 06:34 PM PDT (I made an identical thread on the Apple Community forums) *MacBook Pro, Mid 2012, macOS Mojave* I was trying to non-destructively expand my bootcamp partition. I began by shrinking my macOS partition using Disk Utility. This automatically created a partition in the remaining space called "Untitled." When I rebooted after that (holding Option), the Bootcamp partition no longer appears as it used to. I tried resetting NVRAM, which resulted in no change. In Disk Utility, when I select "get info" on the Bootcamp partition, under "Bootable" it says "no." I have also since deleted the Untitled partition and given the space back to my macOS partition. MS Word equations are ALWAYS garbled when I scroll a document. Posted: 11 May 2019 02:39 PM PDT I have been using different versions of MS-Word for macOS in the last 6 years. During this time I have had 2 different iMacs. No matter what version of Word I have or what machine I have, every time I scroll a document that has equations, they appear like crap, like this. I have create a macro to refresh the equations, then they go back to normal, but this is annoying as hell. I cannot believe that a 10 years old bug is still there. People text's sent to me are getting lost after disabling iMessage for my phone number Posted: 11 May 2019 06:25 PM PDT As if I didn't need more reason to hate apple, years later after switching back to Android I'm still not receiving SMS's from some people. It's mostly my mom, she'll send messages to my icloud email (it's a gmail email, but the one I use for my icloud account). I need an icloud account to sync across macs unfortunately. Notifications requiring extra tap Posted: 11 May 2019 06:22 PM PDT We just purchased my grandfather an iPhone 6S (his first smartphone). I was noticing that his phone requires an extra tap when he receives a notification. When he taps on a notification, instead of opening the app, it slides to the right & reveals an open command. I thought at first he was swiping but it does it when I try to. His phone has been completely updated & I can't find in the settings where this can be changed either. We're trying to make this as simple and easy to remember as possible to help him remember. Does anyone know how to change this setting? Bad Seller Posted: 11 May 2019 01:24 PM PDT Hi Applehelp! ​ I read that we're not supposed to bring up jailbroken stuff here, but I'm in desperate need of help. If there's somewhere else I should turn then please let me know. ​ My dad recently bought an iPhone 7 32 gb for my sister. It was from another person, so not an actual store and he (stupidly) trusted the seller. He comes home and we can't unlock it. There's still an apple id logged onto it and we can't log out. There's only this screen where we have to choose language and country, and then log onto said apple id. We've tried to reach out to the seller for two days and there's no reply. ​ I've tried so many programs to get past this, so many video tutorials and I don't know where to turn anymore. I went to an apple store but they were like "we can't be sure that you own the phone so we won't help you". I was wondering if I could get tips on how to make the desktop more eye friendly as in not too many icons at the bottom, or going for a traditional Windows look since Im new to Macs in general. Im very minimalist and want everything is easy to access without too many start up icons everywhere. Honestly i dont have much on there to begin with. I plan to use this macbook for learning programming (Python) so I dont even know how what softwares i need to download. Also is this version of a macbook upgradeable? Trouble with Photos on Macbook Air. Posted: 11 May 2019 04:02 PM PDT I am traveling with a macbook air and am taking a lot of photos but any amount of photos seems to slow down the Photos program. For various reasons I don't want to go with the icloud option. So, I back up to a 64 GB thumb drive and to Google photos. Even with a couple of hundred photos, and 22 GB to spare on the hard drive, my MB Air runs Photos so slow. Other programs seem unaffected. For example, I am trying to delete pictures from the Photos program but I have to click on each photo between 5-15 times to delete it. Once I close Photos, other programs seem to run fine. I have googled this about 20x and have done everything that I can. I have deleted recent deleted photos, emptied the trash, run Onyx, gone through storage optimization. It would seem ridiculous that I can't store any pictures in the Photos program to allow it to run but that seems like the only option I haven't tried. I thought I could solve this by deleting and reinstalling the app. I uninstalled it, went into the app store to reinstall it, only to find it is still present as one of my active apps. Restoring macOS on iMac 9,1 after upgrading to an SSD Posted: 11 May 2019 03:04 PM PDT The hard drive in my iMac 9,1 died so I took the iMac apart and replace it with an SSD. I thought it would be simple as booting off a USB drive that has a macOS High Sierra installation on it (used it to upgrade before http://dosdude1.com/highsierra/) and installing it. Once it booted, I formatted the SSD as macOS extended journaled and with a GUID partition table on Disk Utility and then select the disk in the High Sierra installer. When the progress bar gets to the end, I get this error: ​ macOS could not be installed on your computer, the bless tool was unable to set the current boot disk I ran this twice and get the same error. I tried running the patch tool and restarting the Mac selecting the SSD in the boot menu and the Mac just freezes when the progress booting bar reaches the end. Googling this issue brings up Bootcamp related issues. There's nothing Bootcamp related to this. I DON'T have another Mac handy. submitted by /u/andrewmackoul [link] [comments]

MBP2017 - Can you boot to a usb through a dock? Posted: 11 May 2019 02:35 PM PDT So I work in an electronics store and we bought a MBP 2017. It's the first one we've had to reset. The associate that bought the MacBook from the customer did not get any of the login info so we can't get in to it. So I need to reset it. I've reset the older ones through USB A, but I don't have a flash drive that is USB C. I do have a Dell Dock that's TB3 and I was wondering if I plug the USB into the dock and then plug the dock into the MacBook, can I boot to the USB Drive?
