Do you use a screen protector? Why and why not?

    Posted: 19 Feb 2019 04:27 AM PST

Got my iPad Pro a couple of days ago. I installed a tempered glass protector and it works flawlessly, beautiful, smooth, great image quality. Didn't really notice anything wrong until I started drawing on it.

It's causing jitter with diagonal lines and it's driving me insane. Horizontal and vertical lines are perfect, but every time I draw at an angle it would create a million waves.

Going through the sub, it seems people are having sensitivity problems with the new iPad one way or another. People recommending matte screens but that degrades the image quality too much for me personally. I don't know what to do 🤷‍♂️

Do you prefer Apple’s current strategy of having the 9.7 inch be the cheap iPad, or should you rather it be a mini, assuming both have the same specs?

    Posted: 19 Feb 2019 11:02 AM PST

When the 2017 9.7 iPad came out, I found it interesting that the 9.7 inch was now essentially taking the place of the Mini as the "cheap" iPad, yet they still kept the Mini 4 with a two-generation old processor in the line as a niche (more expensive, but more storage and smaller size). I see it as being better for most people to have the bigger iPad cheaper, as it is effectively a better value for most people. But I also know of situations where the mini is the better device - for example, a doctor may have to carry their iPad all day, so having a smaller, lighter device is better.

iPad Video Editing Options. (iMovie, Lumafusion, or other?)

    Posted: 19 Feb 2019 08:07 AM PST

I've recently inherited the responsibility of doing some simple editing of video files for my company. These are generally basic instructional videos for completing tasks around the shop. I have a 2011 MBP, which seems to complete most tasks okay, but I'd prefer a more mobile solution on my iPad Pro 12.9 (2018). My MBP doesn't have the best battery life anymore, and it's heavy and cumbersome in comparison. My desk computer is a basic Dell i5, and has no creative software on it currently. Will likely get a license for Affinity Designer/Photo in the future, as I'm comfortable with them and they are affordable, but that wont help me here.

I started off with two sets of files from two different employees in my company. One set was sent via AirDrop from her phone to mine, recorded with an iPhone 7/8 I think and a DJI Osmo. Footage looks fine. Format was easily imported. The second set of files was recorded on a Sony (I think) camera, and stored as an .MTS file. iMovie on iOS did not seem to readily want to import these, which were stored on a company server (hadn't tried directly from the camera with a cable/adapter). I'm considering giving the .MTS files a go on my MacbookPro, but I'm hoping I can find a workaround.

As far as editing, the tools in iMovie seem severely lacking, or I am just misunderstanding how to use them. I created a title card with Affinity Designer to import to iMovie, as I found the text options to almost non-existent. It seems that I can add titles to a clip, but the title stays visible for the entirety of the clip and I'd really like it to fade out in 5-7 seconds. Again, iMovie on iOS seems to be very specific as to what files it will let me edit on it as well.

Lumafusion is an app that I know nothing about, but it looks like it can support more digital camera files, though I've barely scratched the surface in my research of it's flexibility. I haven't purchased it yet, because I'd rather not drop the $20 for something that may not get the job done. Maybe they have a free/demo option. I'll have to check.

I apologize for my long rant, but I'm looking for some opinions that are different from my own limited knowledge.

Just curious when we can expect Photoshop on the iPad?

    Posted: 19 Feb 2019 01:56 PM PST

I know Adobe announced in October that PS would be coming in 2019, but I haven't heard anything other than that. Are we waiting until December, what's up?

Is it possible to disable the screenshot sound?

    Posted: 19 Feb 2019 01:26 PM PST

I often take screenshots while in rideshares, and it makes the other passengers uncomfortable because they think I'm taking pictures. Thanks

    Streaming videos online

    Posted: 19 Feb 2019 01:22 PM PST

Okay so this might seem weird to some, but in the country I live piracy isn't a big deal at all. So most of the people use websites to watch their tv shows (like watchseries).

I used to have a OLD laptop and such websites would work almost perfectly (my internet connection is REALLY good).

Well I have gotten an iPad 6 a few months ago and everytime I use one of those websites the video is buffering non stop. Anybody knows why this is happening and how to fix it? (I only have a few apps on my iPad so i don't think it's space related).

    Notability question

    Posted: 19 Feb 2019 12:46 PM PST

I have several dividers that I would like to nest, is this possible? For example, I would like to have a work divider, then within it yearly dividers 2018, 2017, then within each year have several monthly subjects then several notes within each month. Is this structure possible, I've tried moving things around but I'm having a difficult time.

iPad definitely needs a mouse/cursor support

    Posted: 18 Feb 2019 04:23 PM PST

I used to be a naysayer when it came to mouse/cursor support for iPad, but I finally understand now.

iPad is great anywhere using touch. But when it's in keyboard mode and on a desk or lap, using touch as an input method is way less efficient than using a trackpad or mouse.

You need to reach farther and extend your arm for touch, rather than slightly moving your hand from the keyboard to a trackpad or mouse.

Browsing Reddit with Safari in split view on my iPad isn't a great experience when in keyboard mode, while on my desk or lap.

Doing many amount of tasks on the 12.9" iPad with your hands is a chore, like selecting text, selecting content, scrolling through a page, reaching for buttons, using drag-and-drop, etc. And it's even more awkward when you have the iPad in one the keyboard case's angle, the one that's almost 90 degrees, my nails just hit everything that's below half the entire screen.

With a trackpad or mouse, there's rarely ever that much movement with the arm or hand, the movement of our fingers is enough to move the cursor from one end to another based on acceleration.

Doing things on my iPad isn't as fun as my MacBook when it's on my desk or on my lap. I agree with the people now that thinks having a cursor should be an option.

It's also better for precision, and it's better for some cases where the finger covers up what your working on (like cropping a photo or adjusting a slider).

Is there an app for live cameras?

    Posted: 19 Feb 2019 04:59 AM PST

Like have it monitored on my ipad and let it switch the cameras between phones. Like in the ipad you can attach it to a tv and switch between the cameras of multiple phones.

    Excel on iPad pro

    Posted: 18 Feb 2019 11:14 PM PST

My old MacBook from 2013 just broke down, and as a replacement I'm considering getting an iPad pro instead of a new MacBook. But I have a few worries. I am studying at university at the moment so I use a lot of Excel, Word and so on, how do all these apps work? Are they "full" versions, i.e. the same as on my computer, or are they lighter versions without all the more advanced features (especially Excel)? How ergonomic is the keyboard? Will my whole body hurts after a day of writing on the iPad? Does anyone have any experience with this or know any good reviews where they look at these specific things?

What is a good PDF app that can export comments to linework (illustrator, etc.)

    Posted: 18 Feb 2019 09:45 PM PST

    1. Im an architect and my job requires me to make comments on PDF drawings. When I am on the go, I would like to take my Ipad pro and make comments during site visits/meetings/etc. I would then like to export my comments into linework perhaps in illustrator if possible?

    2. my other question is there a PDF app that will allow me to draw straight lines?

iPad Pro and macOS Keyboard Shortcuts Inconsistencies

    Posted: 18 Feb 2019 11:42 PM PST

So I noticed today that there are a lot of keyboard inconsistencies on iOS and macOS. E.g.,

In Safari for iOS you can reopen a closed tab with CMD + SHIFT + T which is nice but that is the shortcut on macOS for Chrome / Firefox. In Safari for macOS the command is CMD + Z. 🤔

On macOS you can trigger Siri by holding CMD + Spacebar for a couple seconds. If you do this on the iPad, it just triggers the search window and closes it in an infinite loop — nice!

On macOS you can delete words at a time by holding OPTION + delete. On iOS this sometimes works??? It doesn't seem to work at all in Safari for iOS, but works in Apollo, Messages, Telegram, Notes, and probably others.

What are your guy's thoughts on this? I am hoping that Apple will soon give the iPad Pro more love.

    Drawing/filters/effects question

    Posted: 18 Feb 2019 04:17 PM PST

Hi guys, wasn't sure where to ask this one (I've posted this directly to the Procreate message board as well).

Is there any sort of way to have my artwork look like as if it's being viewed on an old tv? I've been using Procreate for a while now and haven't found a way to apply the desired effect, I was wondering if there was maybe something i'm missing from Procreate itself, or if there's any sort of photo filter app I could use for iPad for this.

I've been a huge fan of this cartoonist Jack Stauber for ages now and he has this effect on his videos (eg. https://youtu.be/ra2-NuOFXCc) where everything looks old and vhs-like, I saw a post by his where he actually records it into an old vhs player and tv and that's how he achieves his effects, but I was wondering if there was a way to get this effect on my drawings through either procreate, or at the very least, importing them into photoshop.

Any help is appreciated, thank you! :)
