Apple Pencil worth it on the 2018 9.7" ipad?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2019 12:05 PM PST

I read a lot of past threads about the apple pencil being worth it on Ipad Pro for its functionality. I was wondering what is your thought for the apple pencil for a non-pro iPad. Would be mostly used for school and potentially for work after grad.

New Composition Skin for Smart Keyboard Folio

    Posted: 29 Jan 2019 11:02 PM PST

Battery! Share yours my average screen time (iPad Pro 11’’) is 6.30 hours screen on and I don’t think it’s normal (mid brightness, no Apple Pencil charging, AirDrop off)

iPad Pro 11’ side bumper case

    Posted: 30 Jan 2019 02:21 PM PST

Has anyone seen a case for the iPad that just covers the edges? Not the back or the front just the top bottom and sides, I have a skin on the back and screen protector on the front, just need a bit of cover on the sides and I'll be all set!

It seems like the only iPad cases that exist are full back and front styles which is a bit of a shame

I don’t Understand Why the World is Waiting for a Bendable Tablet

    Posted: 30 Jan 2019 02:21 PM PST

What are the advantages and disadvantages of the the new iPads in general? Can not decide which size is better..

    Posted: 30 Jan 2019 01:49 PM PST

I'm planning on getting one, but i'm not sure about the sizes. 12.9 inches seems quite big and 11 Inches seems quite small. I have never used a tablet before and the iPad seems way more portable, faster(easier to access) than a laptop, and better for notes taking and studying in general.

I will generally use multitasking ( e.g. watching a video and using notability / using a pdf book and taking notes or solving )

I will mainly use it for pdf's, power points, taking notes and watching videos.

and some supplementary things : playing games and drawing.

Edit : I'm on my freshman year(Mechanical Engineering).

Also i noticed the difference in the price is quite high between the last iPad version and last iPad Pro version, i saw so many people recommending other iPads ( such as 9.7 or 10.5 ), i do not know anything about these devices to be honest, so i'm not sure if there is like a huge difference between them.

I hope posting this is not against the rule.

    iPad 2018 12.9 glass protector

    Posted: 30 Jan 2019 01:22 AM PST

Has anyone successfully found a nice glass protector that doesn't mess with the touch screen sensitivity? I had a Tech Armor branded one and it caused touch input problems. I ended up returning the iPad but just bought a new one with my tax refund (thanks for the military discount Apple!) and looking for input on one that doesn't have that problem. Thanks for any suggestions!

What’s a Good Case For Apple Pencil? (ipad 9.7 2018)

    Posted: 30 Jan 2019 05:33 AM PST

    I need something that:

Allows you to lay the ipad FLAT on a table. One i have right now wobbles.

Covers the screen when not in use.

    A good amount of protection

    Can stand the ipad upright

Any backing protective cover / wrap that also make the iPad Pro 11 more “grippy” to hold?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2019 11:59 PM PST

I have the Smart Folio Keyboard and there are times where I don't need the keyboard and just want to hold my iPad Pro like a "book".

However, the Smart Folio Keyboard is quite heavy and it doesn't feel nice to hold when the keyboard is folded as I can feel the keys.

Taking out the iPad from the Smart Folio Keyboard works, but the iPad Pro 11 is so thin and slipper that I am afraid it will drop.

So is there any back protective cover / wrap that I can apply and make it more grippy to hold?

    Apple pencil with GarageBand

    Posted: 29 Jan 2019 06:27 PM PST

Has anybody used their apple pencil with garageband? Just wondering if there is really any benefit with maybe drawing in individual notes and being more precise with some of the functions that can prove tedious with just your finger.. Any thoughts are appreciated!

Battery health of original Apple Pencil?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2019 06:18 PM PST

Does anyone know how to check the battery health of your Apple Pencil? I'm asking because it seems like I lose a lot of percentages through standby. Is there a battery replacement program for the Apple Pencil or am I probably going to have to purchase another pencil soon. I got mine in 2016 so it might be due for a replacement. Has apple said anything about this?

EDIT I mean to say battery life, I have a 2 year old pencil, surely it's not keeping much of a charge as it used to when new.

Best app for screen recording at least in 1080p 60fps?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2019 05:03 PM PST

I want to do speedpaint but I don't like any of the speed videos the own software can make (for example in procreate) and I prefer showing all the screen and interface

So which app would be useful (if it is free even better)

Got a dilemma with the iPad I just bought and wondering what you guys would do

    Posted: 29 Jan 2019 08:09 PM PST

Okay, so I'll try and explain my situation. I'm an 18-year-old student about to go to university. I live in Australia but I'm going to convert all the prices to American so you guys can understand best.

I recently bought what I thought was an iPad sixth-gen (with Apple Pencil support) on eBay. It was a little cracked but the price justified it. It also included a Logitech Bluetooth keyboard case as well. The eventual price I paid was $172.98 US + $10.46 postage.

My plan was to use those things plus an Apple Pencil my grandma never uses (which she generously agreed to give me) to buy Notability and Procreate, and then have a super-budget note-taking device for university in a few weeks.

The iPad came yesterday and I was so excited. I fired it up and I was in love. Nice screen that was very responsive. Lovely design. I immediately felt an attachment to it.

So imagine my horror when I decided to check the model number last night and realised that it was a FIFTH-GEN. The 2017 iPad, not the 2018 iPad. A9 chip, not A10 chip. I hadn't gone to pick up my Pencil yet, but needless to say it wouldn't be supported.

I messaged the seller immediately because the listing clearly specified a sixth-gen iPad. He said he must have typed it in wrong and offered a full refund or $43.15 back as an apology.

What do you guys think? I could send it back and get the refund, or I could take the $43.15 and embrace it as purely a reading and consuming device, and write off the note-taking aspect with no Pencil.

Edit: I'm gonna return it. Thanks everyone!

Taking notes with an older iPad and rubber stylus vs Apple Pencil; do you need to upgrade?(DAY ONE)

    Posted: 29 Jan 2019 08:05 PM PST

A few days ago, I posted to find if there were any good suggestions for styli compatible with an iPad Mini 2. I didn't get many answers that I haven't seen before. However, I also found out in that thread that the new IPad is going for 329. So, I traded in my iPad Mini. Having taken notes on both an iPad 6th gen and an IPad mini, here are my initial impressions.

You don't need an Apple Pencil for note taking if you have an older iPad. You need NOTABILITY. After using both the Apple Pencil and the rubber stylus to take notes, I have concluded that using an iPad Mini with a rubber stylus produces almost as good notes when using notability's built in palm rejection system. In fact, although my handwriting is now better with the Apple Pencil, the rubber tip ironically feels more natural to write with. Unlike the pencil, the rubber stylus has a textured end, which mimics the pull of a ballpoint pen or pencil.

I've only had the iPad for a day, so my opinion may change. But have your jealousy quenched older iPad users; your iPad can still be used in the classroom. I will update you guys once I get used to the pencil.

I’m wanting a good PDF annotation app - has anyone got any suggestions?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2019 07:06 PM PST

I'm currently at University and use PDF expert to highlight and note in the margins of articles and books. This is great because It all syncs back to the original Dropbox or iCloud file and so can View it in preview on my Mac or any other PDF viewer. Downside is, there's no space for me to organise my thoughts about the PDF.

I've looked at LiquidText and I love the idea of being able to note, write, drag, reorganise highlights in a space, and I kind of like Margin Note 3 because it does all of this but looks slightly more organised in boxes (but doesn't support ink as far as I can see?). Also, neither of these support Dropbox syncing. Liquid Text is semi-there - it'll sync back to the original file, but not back to the app if you edit that file elsewhere.

Has anyone got any experience with these apps? Or got any others they could suggest?

I'm also considering back a move to doing the same with digital PDF/ePub books - would that work in any of these apps?
