Posted: 09 Jan 2019 07:40 PM PST My iPhone X shuts off (no warning) 3-6 times a day. Sometimes it takes 10 minutes before it will turn on or allows me to turn it back on. I can be mid call and all the sudden the screen is black. This seems to be getting worse and more frequent. Sometimes the phones screen starts flickering, and it will not allow a forced shutdown. I've googled, but I'm not seeing this problem being discussed, or when I do find questions about it, no answer has been provided. Any ideas welcomed. [link] [comments] |
Force native video player in Safari/Chrome in iOS? Posted: 09 Jan 2019 08:53 PM PST Hi everyone. I'm trying to force embedded videos in Safari to open in the built in iOS media player, and not the website's player. The use case is that I have my third gen 12.9 iPad pro connected to a TV via hdmi. If I play a video, only certain apps will go full screen on the TV. The issue I'm having is that videos from certain websites don't go full screen in Safari using the web player. The thing is, if I got to the same exact site by clicking a link in reddit and using the reddit app's built in browser, the same video loads in the native player and I'm golden. How can I do this in Safari or even Chrome? Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
How do I combine Photo Libraries? Posted: 09 Jan 2019 08:29 PM PST I'm running Mojave 10.14.1 and a really strange thing happened. My photos have always been on my System, since something like 2012, roughly 10,000 photos. Today when I opened my Photos app on my MacBook there was only the most recent 2,000. I run Time Machine and it turns out that my other 8,000 photos are on my external hard drive. How do I combine these two libraries? The only solution I have seen online is to upload them to iCould but I don't have the memory. I am not even clear on why this happened, I never did it physically and I live alone so no one else did it. This also means my Time Machine is not truly backing up everything. [link] [comments] |
“This item is temporarily unavailable.” Posted: 09 Jan 2019 11:55 AM PST Getting this message when trying to reinstall OS X on a newly restored iMac. Super new to iMacs and have google'd my day away with no success. Any help would be amazing, thank you! [link] [comments] |

Available iOS for MacBook Pro 2010? Posted: 09 Jan 2019 06:33 PM PST Hi there! I'm curious, is there any updated iOS versions for a mid 2010 MacBook Pro? Is El Capitan the highest it goes? Or has it ran its course technology speaking? [link] [comments] |
Respondus LockDown App has totally screwed over my iPad Pro Posted: 09 Jan 2019 09:17 AM PST So this is all on the new 2018 iPad Pro. I have to use the LockDown App to take quizzes for one of my classes in school. I open the quiz and it asks if it's okay to lock the iPad to which I replied yes (ExamSoft does this too so I'm used to it). But for whatever reason the quiz doesn't work and now I can't close out of the app at all. There's literally no way to get out of this "locked" state. I can't even complete the app setup because my university isn't listed (that issue is on the teachers). But I don't care about any of that. I just need to know how to close this app. I've tried all the hard reset options for the iPad and none of them work. The app has completely locked out the iPad. I'm not trying to cheat or figure out a future bypass. I just want to close this app so I can delete it and never use it again. The only thing I can think of is to let the battery completely die and hope that does something. However I can't even access the control center to put the brightness up to drain the battery faster. This app has totally fucked me over. Please please please someone help me. UPDATE: I figured it out. Apparently I was doing the hard reset incorrectly. You simply have to click volume up, then volume down, then hold the top button until the screen goes black. I was holding the volume buttons for a little too long. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Jan 2019 09:01 AM PST I have no space left on my Macbook Air because it is being taken up by 'Other' file types when I go into About this Mac and look at Storage. I have no idea what this could be and cannot find any files that would be taking up this amount of storage. How can I find out and remove the files? [link] [comments] |
Forced to constantly reset Wi-Fi Posted: 09 Jan 2019 09:36 PM PST Having a weird problem with my Wi-Fi connection. I'm basically only able to get workable internet access for a minute or so at a time before it drops out. However, if I quickly disconnect and reconnect from the toolbar/renew my DHCP lease, the wifi suddenly reconnects, and I get another minute of access. Frustratingly, this also happens when I try run a diagnostic test - running one just shows the wifi as working as normal. So far I've tried logging in and out of the network, wiping my cache, turning my laptop off and on again, connecting the internet in different browsers, configuring my IPv6 to "link-only", installing all possible updates to my OS, and restarting the router. I know it's an issue specifically with my device, because my phone is connecting normally, as are all other devices. Over the last couple of days I have gotten a couple of "another device on your network is using the same IP address" warning messages, but the problem only popped up this morning. I'm using the A1502 MacBook Pro, and my MacOS is at version 10.12.6 [link] [comments] |
Has anyone been having problems with the mail app ceasing to work on iphone Xs? Posted: 09 Jan 2019 08:49 AM PST I have noticed that sometimes my mail app just won't work. It won't refresh and it stays on, "checking for mail". I also can't complete other functions in the app. I force close the app and it still doesn't work. The only thing that fixes it is restarting my phone. I have the latest update but this problem was happening before the update but it never happened on my iphone x. [link] [comments] |
An internal Messages error occurred on Mojave 10.14 Posted: 09 Jan 2019 05:26 PM PST Hey guys, out of nowhere my Messages cannot be opened on the first try, and it shows this following dialogue box. I have uploaded the screenshot here: https://imgur.com/a/5njk3Hg. It prompts me to quit and relaunch, and usually after relaunching, Messages works normally. I have tried several solutions posted both here and the Apple forums; removing the plist file, for one. Alas, none of them worked. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks! Posted: 09 Jan 2019 05:15 PM PST It read, "Enter the password for "OWNER's Macbook Pro" which is not the password for this Macbook Pro. So I am very confused. I don't know if someone else has accessed my information or something of that nature? If so, how would I know and what do I do? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Jan 2019 07:25 PM PST Hey Guys, I wanted to change my password to my icloud account, but unfortunately, I am logged out of the email and forgot all my security questions. I can't receive the email to reset my password and can't get by security questions, therefore, what do I do? Is the apple store the only option? Thanks for any help!! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Jan 2019 03:03 PM PST My parents are in their late 60s and have Macbooks that are just a few years old. I am mainly a Windows PC guy though I do have a really old Iphone. I live out of state from them and just never feel like I can give good computer help/advice when I'm not there. I can get around sort of in OSX, but never really use it much myself and that makes it hard to easily troubleshoot issues they have or hard to just help them get the most out of their Macs in general. Are there great sites that can help for that kind of thing. Not necessarily info for people who have never touched a laptop or PC of any kind in their life, but just for people who aren't that good at doing anything besides opening a browser and checking email. Thanks! Edit: I'll definitely at least start with the top links of all time from this sub. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 09 Jan 2019 02:07 PM PST Hi, basically, I have two iPhones, a work phone and a personal, both are on the same iCloud My work phone broke about 3 weeks ago and I didn't bother pairing it to my personal as my work will replace it soon. For the whole 3 weeks my Apple Watch has had the red "phone not connected symbol" Just now, randomly, my watch got an iMessage through, I look and the 'phone not connected" symbol is gone... but when I open the watch app on my personal phone it's definitely not paired! What's going on? Thanks Oh, if it helps, today I paired my AirPods to the Apple watch does that link it all in some way? [link] [comments] |
Just over 1 year into my 2 year contract and my iPhone 7 won’t hold its charge. Posted: 09 Jan 2019 01:32 PM PST I understand batteries slowly degrade with time but it had been perfectly fine until this past week, my phone is fully updated (iOS 12.1.2). It'll go from 100-80% normally but from 80-48 is very quick and then it seems to jump from 48-10%, down to 0. Don't understand why, any help appreciated [link] [comments] |
Instagram rotating my photos in chat? Posted: 09 Jan 2019 04:46 AM PST Whenever I send a photo to a friend in chat, the photo orientation changes. For example, if I take a photo vertically, it uploads horizontally, and it crops off the top and bottom of the photo, which is annoying. What's going on here? I'm using an iPhone 5s, so I was just wondering if this has anything to do with my iPhone settings. If relevant, I'm using IOS 12.1.2. I have already tried turning my phone on and off again, logging in and out of the account, and redownloading the app. The problem doesn't occur on my SO's iPhone X. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Jan 2019 08:22 AM PST Hello Redditors! I'm getting into videography with my iPhone but I will need a microphone. I will be using it simultaneously with a gimbal so the adapter must be right angle so the gimbal will clamp the phone, but I cannot seem to find one that exists. Any of you know where I could find one? Lightning connector must be right angle and the 3.5mm female does not matter. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Please validate your product’s purchase date on macbook purchased 3rd party Posted: 09 Jan 2019 03:12 PM PST Hi purchased a macbook through thirdparty. I was able to get it all set up with my icloud account however when looking up the warranty info with the serial number, that is the message i am seeing. Is there a way to get this validated without a purchase receipt? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Jan 2019 02:46 PM PST Edit: The title should read "even after restarting my computer." I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13", early 2015) running High Sierra v. 10.13.6. I'm old, and not very tech savvy, but I'm trying to learn. This morning I decided to clear up some space on my computer. It's something I should have done before, but I never really paid attention to how much space my old downloads were taking up. (For what it's worth, when I started this morning, I had 283 GB available on a 1 TB HD.) I went to Apple Menu > About This Mac > Storage > Manage >Review Files > Downloads, and starting deleting things I'd downloaded over the years that I no longer need. There's a lot more I'd like to delete - and I was hoping to upgrade to Mojave today - but something strange is going on. On the left side of the "System Information" window that shows my downloads, at the bottom, across from "System", the progress indicator won't stop spinning. It's been over four hours since I stopped deleting downloads, and it's still spinning. I tried restarting the computer, but that didn't help. Is this a sign of a problem? Is there anything I can do to stop it, or do I just have to wait it out for however long it takes? I'd really like to back up my computer and install Mojave today, because it's the only day I'll have free time for the next week. [link] [comments] |
Weird Display Issue 2008 MacBook Pro Posted: 09 Jan 2019 10:29 AM PST Hello ! There's a weird display issue going on lately with a 2008 MacBook Pro, the screen is full of vertical lines are grey on the startup screen and then after that it turns to pink/blue and purple vertical lines, after 2 minutes the screen flickers, crashes and turns black (But screen is still lit up). When using bootcamp it crashes the same way. This seems like a GPU thing, but I used a Thunderbolt to VGA Adapter on a external monitor and the screen was just fine with no vertical lines, except that the monitor turned off and on for a while before actually displaying the desktop, then the external monitor crashed too, even when not plugged with the MacBook, the monitor when turned on turns off right away. I used a second monitor to make sure it isn't because of the first monitor and surprisingly even the second monitor crashed the same way (Display desktop without vertical lines > Screen of monitor turns black with the diode lit up) and now the second monitor crashes too even when not plugged to the Mac, haha. Btw, now when starting up the mac, it displays a black screen, and then after a few NVRAM/PRAM reset the screen lits up but still black, after a few more NVRAM/PRAM It flickers into a blue and then white loading screen with vertical stripes. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Prohibitory Symbol MacBook Air Question Posted: 09 Jan 2019 06:40 AM PST I am trying to figure out why I got this symbol this morning. I am currently reinstalling Mac OS (high Sierra) to resolve the issue. Last night, I updated my Mac after telling it to "remind me tomorrow" for like 2 months. I also decided to start installing the new Mojave, but I cancelled the installation because I was about to go to bed. I also downloaded a C++ framework for a tutorial I'm following on YouTube and stores it in the ~/Library/Frameworks directory. Is this startup issue because of the update or is it because I altered that directory? I want to make sure this doesn't happen again [link] [comments] |
My External HDD only shows up on Desktop and Not in Finder Posted: 09 Jan 2019 02:12 PM PST I am using the HDD from my old Macbook as an external HDD on my new Macbook Air. But it only shows up on the desktop and not in the finder window or finder sidebar. On the Desktop it reads OSX. This is an issue when I want to use the HDD for cache location when using programs, since I cannot navigate to its location. Anyone know what is going on here? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Jan 2019 02:07 PM PST Just got two brand new 10TB drives used for Time Machine and I partitioned in this format. Both fail when clicking First Aid in Disk Utility. An old 6TB drive I use, and recently formatted to Mac OS Extended (Journaled, Encrypted), also fails. Is it just that encrypted partitions return this error, even when mounted? The data seems fine, no other issues and they perform like normal. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
