What Adblock do you use in Safari?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2018 07:14 AM PST

    OS 10.14.2
    Safari 12.0.2

It seems to work but the badge on the uBlock icon in the browser keeps increasing with each page refresh on a particular site.

EDIT I use host files from https://github.com/StevenBlack/hosts as well.

EDIT 2 Just realized I forgot to mention that I am already using uBlock Origin but it has a weird glitch, that I mentioned above. So, I am wondering if there is something better.

Mac says property of Intercom on start up

    Posted: 31 Dec 2018 01:32 AM PST

Hello! I don't know if this is the right place to post this but I recently bought a MB Pro 2017 off craigslist and whenever I start it up it says Property of Intercom on the login page. What is happening and is there a way I can remove this? It looks like some sort of remote management thing.

    Thanks!

nplayer on iOS alternative for macOS?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2018 11:38 AM PST

In this case, I specifically means the ability to stream videos from my google drive.

I did some searching. I've tried using iina to play video by using the shared link from google drive.

It works, but you can't jump on the timeline because it's downloading from the start.

And I've tried using Google File Stream. It works, but some details are not so good.

eg. If you are just having a quick look of a video, It will starts downloading, and you can't stop it. even if you click stop syncing.

you have to quit the Google File Stream app. When you launch it again, you will see the video is partly downloaded, and you can't just clear the cache of this specific file, you have to clear all the cache.

Is there a Safari plugin that will stop those popups asking me to turn off my ad blocker?

I'd even be willing to change browsers if I had to.

Long-time lurker need help with iMac

    Posted: 30 Dec 2018 01:16 PM PST

TL;DR IMac will not start normally. IMac can't find its own hard drive? Or there is a problem with the operating system and I can't reinstall it online or at home.

I am a 58-year-old former graphic designer who always worked on Macs. I have some health problems that have kept me from working since 2013. I need to get my iMac back online to see if I'm capable of performing as a designer again at least at a beginner level. I've been out of the game for a few years and I can't do things at at pro level. I know my applications, the tools I use, Adobe Creative Suite, is out of date and maybe print design isn't as in demand as much as it used to be but I'd like to try.

Even if I can't do this again professionally, I still would like to have access to the files. I'm making this post from my phone and the only working computer I have is an ILamp from 2002. And it can't do much with its un-updatable operating system.

Here's my predicament. More than a year ago, during a thunderstorm lightning hit really close by, so I'm guessing maybe that was the reason why I'm having problems.

I tried then to restarts and without going into much detail had no luck. I don't have the money to take it to a certified Mac repair shop and especially don't have the money to buy a new Mac. I didn't have a time machine so I can't restart from there, which is an option in some of the menus I will talk about. I have a couple other problems that if you need me to go into detail I will but over the next year I've learned a few ways to try to restart, to make sure that it's actually not fried. So I've been trying to start it in safe mode, recovery mode, and other ways, but I've tried without success.

Here's are the notes of what I tried .

Turning Mac on normally. Apple symbol spinning gear. No other progress. I've read that this could mean a corrupt Mac OS X installation. The gear just keeps on spinning and nothing happens.

Starting in the recovery mode, gets me past the Apple logo and spinning gear to the Mac os utilities box. I don't have a time machine backup. When I choose Disk Utility it can't find a drive and all I get is a spinning beach ball.

When I start up with command option -R, I get the spinning globe and the choice to choose my network. Then a progress bar, under the spinning globe. After 20 minutes of progress bar, I again get the language choice and then the OS utilities menu. I choose the reinstall Mac OS option, in the menu and nothing happens. Then I choose the Disk Utility. and it stalls with a spinning gear. Well it says that it is loading discs but it does nothing, I guess it can't find the discs. Then back to the OS utilities menu and I click on the reload Mac OS again, and it gives me a window "to set up the installation of Mac OS High Sierra, continue".

When I try to do that I get a message says the recovery server could not be contacted. And that's where this usually ends I don't know what to do past this step.

When I launched in single user mode, all the texts Scrolls by but I never get a command prompt I can't use the fsck FY command.

I can pay the cost for a fix but my finances are terrible my dollar assets are in the very very low three figures.

I can't drive but I can get rides mostly on the bus but to get anybody to take me someplace in town is a hassle and intrusive to my friends are family.

Any guidance or help would be greatly appreciated. I am not looking for something for nothing I just want to know if there's any chance of getting this fixed, or if nothing means abandoning all hope.

I'm writing this post with text to speech and I will try to edit but thanks for reading just the same.

Also, I have images of some of those screens where I got to and got hung up on. But I'm not sure how to attach them to this post.

If I'm out-of-line, or on the wrong subreddit, please guide me in the correct way to do this.

    Exif date sorting for photos?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2018 04:33 PM PST

Evening all I've moved over from windows to mac os this month and I'm still getting my harddrives and ssds ready for mac os and my workflow, something that I'm noticing is that I can't sort by date taken. Is there a way to do this in finder? I can see the exif date taken info in preview but would like to sort through my finder by that date.

    Thanks

Where can I find AutoFill forms?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2018 08:12 AM PST

I lost a gift card that I checked its balance online but never used the credit. Safari has AutoFill on, but when I go to the website again and I hit any number in the field, the full gift card number does not come up. I wonder if the website does not allow AutoFill or I'm missing something... Is there any chance to edit a file in the OS and find this gift card number somewhere? Using Mojave 10.14.1 and Safari 12.0.1.

    Is this a good MacBook?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2018 04:38 AM PST

According to Amazon, Apple MacBook Air (13", 2.2GHz Intel Core i7 Dual Core Processor, 512GB) - Silver is 10% off. Is it worth it? What's your view on this MacBook? Is it good?
