Posted: 02 Nov 2018 11:48 AM PDT https://imgur.com/gallery/KUzWlCC This case weighs 241g (give or take 2-3g, due to using kitchen scale). This is the Smart Cover, not the keyboard case. I use an Apple Bluetooth magic keyboard, which actually weighs less than this Smart Cover at 228g. I really wish they had built another normal front-only Smart Cover, as this one is double the weight of last year's Smart Cover. Another poster reported his 11" Cover at 200g, while the one from the 10.5" last year was 100g. [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Nov 2018 12:50 PM PDT Few recommendations for new iPad users: Note taking apps Notability, GoodNotes 4, OneNote and Noteshelf 2 are the most popular ones. Some points to mention: You can find some comparisons on this subreddit and YouTube. Tom Solid's YouTube and website provide a lot of reviews. Janice Studies is another channel where you can get some tips for note taking. Also, do read this thread by /u/MrRickSter PDF apps Free:
Paid: PDF Expert imo is the best of the bunch but each app has their pros and cons. PDFfiller can be used for PDF editing and signing. Scanner apps
I've only used Scannable and Scanner Pro and both work really well. Secondary display Duet Display is really good if you're using Windows or MacOS. Drawing apps
Procreate and Autodesk SketchBook are the most popular ones but there are a lot of comparisons online. Photo Editing apps
Video Editing apps LumaFusion is expensive but it's really good for video editing if iMovie doesn't cut it. Miscellaneous You can also check out more app suggestions here. Feel free to add more suggestions in comments and correct me if I provided some wrong info. [link] [comments]
My Experience with the 10.5 inch iPad Pro as my main, daily, personal productivity machine Posted: 02 Nov 2018 11:30 AM PDT Intro The day I got the 10.5 inch iPad Pro from my local school district to use it as my main High School computer to write up essays, documents, take notes, and basic iMovie Video Editing, I was really, really excited. Upon picking up the device, it came with the Smart Keyboard attached, and a case with an Apple Pencil holder. Ironically, my school district didn't include the Apple Pencil with the iPad Pro so I immediately went on eBay and bought one for $70 with Free Expedited Shipping. About a day and a half later, I had an Apple Pencil ready to use on my iPad Pro. The Experience Holy balls I was so shocked upon turning this device on for the first time. ProMotion seriously is underrated to those without a trained eye to appreciate the 120hz refresh rate on the display. The iPad came on iOS 11.2.1 and even on the inferior firmware with noticeable visual bugs, I was still shocked that no matter what I was doing the frame rate remained consistent and was always at 120HZ throughout the system. The Smart Keyboard was quite amazing in my usage and I never really had any problems using it with Termius to SSH into my local Linux server and edit long VIM documents and get work done. Using the Apple Pencil for note-taking in Notability in class is just... AMAZING. There is not a single better way to take notes in a classroom setting better than the iPad Pro 10.5 inch with the Apple Pencil and Notability. While others in class might struggle to keep up with the teacher and have to deal with pages and organization problems, I never had any of those issues and the iPad Pro handled taking all my notes flawlessly and Notability automagically syncs everything up to iCloud and Google Drive so as I am walking to my next class I can quickly review them and store them in that good 'ol long term memory for future reference. Audio Quality is flawless when it comes to listening through the quad channel stereo speakers and when recording through the incredibly futuristic and intuitive microphone design on the iPad. Videos sound crisp and voiceovers sound natural and not compressed and even recording vocal covers of songs with GarageBand work flawlessly with little to no latency over the headphone jack on the 10.5 inch iPad (cries in 2018 pro) While it's on my mind, the camera..... :/ This is the only thing that makes me slightly irritated. Apple gave the iPad Pro 10.5 inch the same sensor as the iPhone 7 and while thats great and all the fundamental idea of having such a powerful camera on a device that really isn't designed to take photos and more designed to edit and modify them kinda confuses me on Apples thinking behind this. Don't get me wrong, I love the camera on-board and think it's great Apple included that into the device without making a noticeable cost bump and explicitly advertise it as one of it's key features, but my thinking behind this entire situation still stands. Why? Why would Apple spend money and waste resources on a device that very very few people use as their main camera. It's honestly only good for certain situations right? I'm curious what you guys have to say about this so I'll leave that to the /r/iPad and /r/Apple community for discussion. Conclusion If you are looking for a Windows Laptop, or something that can handle your workload, but you can't afford a Mac and don't want to deal with Microsoft, the iPad Pro is the perfect device. I work at a phone and laptop repair store and reseller for Apple products and every person who walks in and looks at the 12 inch MacBooks almost always have a workload that the iPad Pro would handle just as well, if not better considering the specs and the portability of the device. In general, it is the better product when it comes to that workload other than the fact that the 12 inch MacBook is still a laptop and can be used for more tasks than an iOS device ever can. I'm sure I have left out plenty of things I love about this device, as I am currently sitting in my third period Chemistry class twiddling my Apple pencil between my fingers as I write this on the Smart Keyboard after taking a test I studied for using the notes I had in Notability from the device, so please, comment down below and let me know the community's thoughts on this device. I'm eager to read and discuss what you guys have to say. iPadMasterRace?;) [link] [comments]
What are things you can do on a laptop that you can't on an iPad Pro? Posted: 02 Nov 2018 12:58 PM PDT I know there are ALOT. But to narrow down my question - what's stopping you from completely doing away with a laptop? I ask because I'm thinking of getting the new iPad Pro. If I can do away with a laptop, I think its worth investing on a bigger storage. [link] [comments]

Displays that can connect to new ipad pros? Posted: 02 Nov 2018 07:00 AM PDT I'm thinking of getting a new monitor for my mac. Since the ipad pro came out, I may as well future proof it by getting one that the pro can display out to. I think this requires displayport 1.3 or up, but I'm really out of my depth here. Anyone got monitor suggestions? Price isn't a massive concern since this is for business (within reason). Beyond ipad, 4k, 120hz, and good ports would be cool. But, I have no idea how realistic those are. [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Nov 2018 08:24 AM PDT Is it a bad decision to go with the old iPad Pro, assuming a price drop will occur, over the new iPad Pro? I assume the old iPad Pro is still a great device...the high-end cost of the new iPad Pro is too high to even consider. I recently purchased the iPad 9.7 (2018), but considering returning it and getting the old iPad Pro (assuming there will be a price drop). [link] [comments]
I'd like to use the new iPad Pro as a laptop replacement. How realistic is that? Posted: 02 Nov 2018 11:15 AM PDT Title says it all. My work is primarily around product management/working in the field, which seems to lend itself to a mobile device like the iPad. I don't think apps or the lack of good file system will be an issue...my concerns tend to be more tactical:

Contemplating my options. Medical school soon. Posted: 02 Nov 2018 08:42 AM PDT I'm looking to buy an iPad as it's required for medical school, but am torn on what to get. On one hand, I could buy the iPad 6 as it has Pencil support or cop a 2017 iPad Pro. On the other, what's another $1k on top of $200k of medical student debt, I could splurge and get the 2018 iPad Pro. Stuck on decisions! Don't know what to do [link] [comments]

iPad Pro vs getting a Switch/iPad? Posted: 02 Nov 2018 12:04 PM PDT Hello fellow iPad users, I wanted to gather some opinion about my upcoming black Friday shopping. I am looking at buying the newly released iPad Pro that came out and it does look pretty awesome. On the contrary, I also had an idea to buy a regular iPad + a Nintendo Switch for even less money. My primary reason for iPad was just for taking notes and causal media entertainment. However, I wanted to know if the combo is a better option than buying the super awesome new iPad Pro. What do you guys think? Thanks!! [link] [comments]
Duet Display ipad 2018 not charging Posted: 02 Nov 2018 04:32 AM PDT I'm trying to use duet with my windows desktop and my ipad is saying that it isn't charging. Do I need a powered USB hub? If so what ones will work as I can't find any info on this via google :/ It also keeps disconnecting if I don't tap it with my finger but I assume that is juts the display timeout or something because it isn't charging. Posted: 02 Nov 2018 10:42 AM PDT Hi, my SO is asking me for recommendations for an Ipad 12.9 pro (I believe from last year) compatible pen. I'm not really Apple savvy so I'm putting it here. Preferably she'd like an alternative 3rd party one, as she doesn't want to spend $100 for it. She wants to be able to use it to draw on screen and also to trace off-screen like from a magazine etc, if that's possible. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]

Can you fold the keyboard folio case backwards? Posted: 02 Nov 2018 02:38 AM PDT Looking at it, I can't see a way that the keyboard folio case for the new Pros can be folded in a way that holds the iPad up without the keyboard being out - can anyone confirm whether this is the case? What to do with an iPad 1st Generation? Posted: 02 Nov 2018 01:42 PM PDT I currently have an iPad 1st generation, 64gb in mint condition. Right now its just sitting on my desk and acting as a digital photo frame. Does anyone have any ideas of what else I can do with it? iOS 5.1.1 is pretty limited now but I'm open to anything. I also have an iPad Pro 10.5 inch (also 64gb haha) for actual intensive stuff so does anyone have any ideas? [link] [comments]
Is 128g and 64gb Enough for 3 years Posted: 02 Nov 2018 12:41 PM PDT So I plan on buying the MacBook air 2017 and iPad pro 10.5 inch. I'm stuck on the storage , I'm a college student so I need enough space to download office 360 on my MacBook and I'll be browsing and watching movies and listening to music. I may download some things shows but I could use cloud. Then for my iPad pro it's for note taking and Netflix YouTube entertainment all in all. Some video games and drawing. I planned on getting the base model for both products is that enough. If I get the 256gb for the MacBook air I'll get the base model for the iPad vise versa [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Nov 2018 12:07 PM PDT Hey guys, I have a 9 yo iMac (late 09) that still works but isn't the fastest. I waited for the October event in hopes for an iMac refresh - didn't happen. Now I am thinking of getting an iPad pro and using it as my main computer instead. I would use it for web, watching and uploading to youtube, editing photos and video editing (non-pro) which I think it would be perfect for. But I'd also use it for Uni - taking notes would be amazing on it. But: I also need to write and edit documents sometimes, and for that I need Microsoft word (or a fully-featured text editor that won't screw up .docx layout), since everyone uses it and sometimes there are collab projects, so I couldn't use pages f.ex. Now I saw that there is a MS word on the app store, but I can't test it because my 6 yo iPad doesn't support it. I read on reddit that it isn't the full desktop version. I just started my masters degree, so I going to have to write scientific projects. Can I use my iPad for this? Will word for iPad do the job? Will it screw up the layout of .docx files that are also being worked on on desktop? Another thing: Has anyone used LaTeX on iPad (texpad or tex writer on the app store)? I'd love an iPad Pro, but as long as I can't use one of world's most widely used productivity apps - MS Office - it won't work well for me :( Maybe all the desktop features will be implemented eventually? Posted: 02 Nov 2018 12:00 PM PDT Anyone know if the feeling of writing is the same for apple pencil 2? Like if they changed the material of the tips since a number of people mentioned the awkward feeling of the writing on the glass? [link] [comments]

The missing iPad Pro feature everyone should be talking about Posted: 02 Nov 2018 07:40 AM PDT It's just shocking to me, that you can spend 1100 to 1900 on a new iPad Pro with LTE, and have to spend 10 per month on giving that iPad LTE service... but you can't update apps from the App Store on LTE. I mean, if you're a consumer that can spend that much money on a tablet, that doesn't even have full desktop software functionality, you don't need Apple to "help" you not go over your data usage by not letting you update Apps... especially since streaming video represents a lot more potential data usage. True story, years ago I bought my mom an iPad mini 2nd gen (still works well, btw) with LTE. She didn't have broadband internet in her home so I Thougfht this would be useful. Whenever there was an OS update or if she wanted to download new big apps, she'd have to travel an hour to the nearest Apple store to use their WiFi to get them. It's absolutely crazy this is still an issue. [link] [comments] |
