PSA For all the new people getting Apple Tv 4K and Vudu not playing in HDR or 4K

    Posted: 18 Nov 2018 03:45 PM PST

So I recently bought a new apple tv 4k and I know a lot of you might get one for the holidays as well and might run into the same issue as me.

So i spent hours trying to figure out why my vudu movies looked so bad. I played them directly on the smart tv and it looked so much better. It was obvious that HDR was not working but I thought maybe I'm just being picky and its just slightly off. I spent hours. Thought maybe apple tv wasnt playing hdr right.

But then in the vudu app at the top all the way to the right I went to settings and playback settings and saw that it was set to default to HD and not UHD. Changed it and went back to the movie and it was instantly better with HDR on and 4K. If you swipe down during a movie it will actually say 4K and HDR if its a 4k HDR movie, where as before it only showed HD.

So hopefully others who get new apple tvs that run into this issue then this post might help you out.

Side Note: Netflix wasnt showing HDR titles but it was showing Dolby vision even tho my tv doesnt support Dolby vision. It was only showing Dolby vision on few titles so I played a title that I know for a fact has HDR but wasnt showing HDR or Dolby vision tag and then netflix crashed and i relaunched it and now all HDR content shows Dolby vision where as before it was showing nothing. Idk if Dolby vision stuff will still play in HDR or not but this might help if your things on netflix dont show either tag.

Need advise on the 4K TV I bought.

    Posted: 18 Nov 2018 07:03 PM PST

    I recently bought a Philips 6100 65" 4K TV last Friday for $999 NZD (Around $686 USD).

I just knew that it won't support 4K HDR. So all 4K content will only play as 4K SDR.

Any advise if this is worth it? Do I realy need the HDR feature?

I have an Apple TV 4K.

I'm planning to buy a PS4 Pro, and it's using HDR.

Airplay audio from ATV to iPhone?

    Posted: 19 Nov 2018 03:33 AM PST

I want to listen to my atv at night without disturbing anyone else in my house , Is there anyway to transfer audio from the Apple TV to the iPhone?

I don't want to jailbreak my phone or buy AirPods. Is there a way to do this using the atv app on the iPhone or something similar ?

I tried looking it up on google and surprised I couldn't find anything . I searched this sub but some answers were from a long time ago, not sure if anything has changed .

Second AppleTV or something cheaper (e.g. Roku) for a TV I don't watch as often?

    Posted: 18 Nov 2018 02:55 PM PST

Hello! So, I have an AppleTV 4K and really like it. The 4K doesn't benefit me much as I dont have a 4K TV, but I may in the future so I figured the price wasn't a big difference. I watch the TV it is on the vast majority of the time. I have a chronic illness so outside of work, I am generally in bed.

However, I'm trying to stop being in bed so much and move out into my living room and sit in there and make a cozy set up. I think I'll be more inclined if I have I can stream on that TV, too, so was thinking of buying a second ATV. Right now, there is a refurbished one available on Apple's site, but I also have some Best Buy gift cards I could use or whatever.

Some folks I know suggested the Roku for the 2nd TV. I have an Apple eco-system otherwise, but the price is attractive. WHat are the drawbacks to getting a Roku rather than a 2nd ATV? I live in a small house so streaming music through the 2nd ATV isn't a big deal, but otherwise, I am not too sure. I probably dont use the first to it's potential.

I am open to your input! If it matters, both TVs are about 10 years old and I have no plans to upgrade unless they die. If it also matters, I don't ever have company (literally like twice a year) so my living room is not really much use, but I am trying to spend more time out of my bed.

    I feel let down...

    Posted: 18 Nov 2018 02:30 PM PST

For the last few years I had been moving away from physical content and getting movies through iTunes. It was a good price point, easy to access, and no storage was needed.

Recently put an old Blu Ray disc in to my system and while the picture quality is relitively the same, the sound quality on Apple TV is vastly lacking. I feel like a sucker.

Type on iPhone for Apple TV not working.

    Posted: 18 Nov 2018 08:03 PM PST

A little while ago when I would need to type something on my Apple TV, I was able to do so from my iPhone X as I would get the notification that lets my type on the phone to the tv. Now whenever I get the notification all the notification does is says "connecting" but I am still able to get the notification but not have it work. Both devices have same Apple ID and on same WiFi network.

Does Apple TV offer Airplay via Bluetooth?

    Posted: 18 Nov 2018 11:40 AM PST

Simple question but I can't find the answer. I was just watching my Apple TV and up popped the "AirPlay Passcode" message from an ipad that is not on my wireless trying to access my Apple TV. Does the Apple TV offer airplay via bluetooth? It's the only way I can think this mystery iPad was able to see and try to connect to my Apple TV.

Forgot to reset AppleTV before selling

    Posted: 18 Nov 2018 11:34 AM PST

I took it off my Apple ID account, it's no longer under my devices. I changed my Apple password and Netflix password in case. Will the kid who bought it be able to sign into his account when it prompts him? I feel awful. I ALWAYS am good about resetting my devices! I completely forgot about this with the AppleTV.
