Itunes didnt see new ipad now thinks its my iphone Posted: 02 Nov 2018 06:39 PM PDT So my old ipad died. Got a new one. At first itunes [on a old macbook air] didnt see the ipad at all. I restored an old cloud backup of the ipad to the new ipad, but I have a full backup of old ipad from yesterday that I want to restore to. So I rebooted everything. I changed wires, changed ubs port. etc. Then I connected my iphone to see if itunes would recognize that.It does. Now when I connect the ipad, it recognizes that something is connected, but it insists that its the iphone? The system report recognizes that its an ipad. Very confused and unsure what to try next. Posted: 02 Nov 2018 04:32 PM PDT Ok so I am certainly no expert on tablets, however after building my own computer I feel like I have a basic grasp of technology and troubleshooting. The story goes like this: I'm a pilot and I use my iPad for work. Like a lot. I own an iPad Pro for the past three years and within the past month it recently would freeze on a page in documents I was reading. I figured no sweat since these documents could get into the 1000's of pages, so I would just close my iPad, come back, and presto it worked again. Two nights ago I was prompted for an update. I agreed, closed my iPad and went to sleep. When I woke up the iPad would turn on just fine but the touch interface would not register. The home button and the lock button work just fine but the touch wouldn't work. I browse apple support forums and its suggested to try the update again but this time plugged into your computer. I try that and the screen changes to the restore screen (the one with the desktop icon for iTunes and a little charger going to it). On iTunes it says the download is complete but the screen will still not register. Try a force restart and still nothing. I call apple support, try the exact same thing again and nothing works. She sets me up with a walk in for the genius bar. They try the update, and nothing works. Then they try wiping the tablet and reinstalling the IOS and the screen still doesn't register. Here is the weird thing. The screen is not frozen. It prompted with me choosing my language. Just the actual touch interface of the screen wont work to select anything. The guy immediately starts suggesting buying other iPads instead of fixing this one, which irked me a little bit. I was tempted to take it into one of those third-party apple fix places if its a hardware issue but I am thinking its something with the software as there is not a single dent or crack in the screen or the entire iPad for that matter. Has anyone else had this problem too? If so, did you try to get it fixed or did you cash out the hundreds for another iPad. Thanks for any advice! [link] [comments] |
Where to send feedback for an amazing customer service experience? Posted: 02 Nov 2018 01:08 PM PDT Had a great customer service experience in which the senior manager went above and beyond the normal and provided an excellent level of service. I wanted to send feedback about the fella, anyone know where I can do that? [link] [comments] |

iPhone Max Frozen During Update Posted: 02 Nov 2018 09:40 PM PDT How do I get out of this? Hard reset/power button hasn't done anything. iTunes doesn't recognize it when I plug it in. iCloud says it's offline. [link] [comments] |
WiFi Calling Isn't Available on Mac Posted: 02 Nov 2018 09:40 PM PDT Title basically says it. The option to enable WiFi calling is not showing within the facetime app on my mac. I have the 'calls from iphone' option enabled, but nothing about WiFi calling. I looked at the settings in my iPhone and it's not showing my mac under the wifi calling option either. Any idea how to fix this? My carrier (AT&T) definitely supports it, as I have used it in the past. [link] [comments] |
Can't download free apps without a credit card? Wtf?? Posted: 02 Nov 2018 09:37 PM PDT |
Posted: 02 Nov 2018 05:46 PM PDT Evening everyone. I've been buying Apple products for years now... all the way since the original iPhone... but never one of their computers. Just recently, my computer's graphics card died on me (it's an old computer) and instead of replacing it... I've decided to just move onto a iMac instead. I'm just hoping someone can clear up a few things for me! Something to note, I'm really bad at computers and specs so I'm hoping on of you guys can answer the "tech" questions. One of the biggest things I do on my computer (70% of the time) is play League of Legends. The other 30% is just using Word and PowerPoint so nothing really that fancy or technical. I'm just wondering what is the best option to chose if I'm primarily using it for gaming... and not even that graphically of an intense game either! Which one should I be looking at? Charge/audio splitters not working on iPhone XS?? Posted: 02 Nov 2018 09:20 PM PDT So I've bought 2 brand new dual lightning port splitters and both of them stop audio after 13 seconds. They are 2 different ones as well. Any idea if it's just the iPhone XS that doesn't support them? It still continues to charge after the audio stops. I've tried everything. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Nov 2018 09:18 PM PDT I realize that this is an odd request—I recently tried to upgrade my ancient 2011 MBP from Sierra to High Sierra, and ended up burning a ton of cycles backtracking from that move. Basically broke my computer, lost a ton of time that I could've been working just trying to make things better before I finally just decided to abandon it entirely and go back to Sierra. Fortunately I did a full bootable backup of my hard drive before the upgrade, so restoring that wasn't that painful. Unfortunately when I did move up to High Sierra, the Photos Library which was on an external hard drive was upgraded, and is no longer legible to my Sierra version of Photos. All I get is a message that I should upgrade my OS if I want to see the Photos library. So until I pull the trigger on something that can run something more current (and that's going to happen soon), I'm stuck looking under the hood to try to find some old site photos for a project I'm revisiting, showing Package Contents on the Library File, which is a total incomprehensible mess. Does anyone know of a way back for me? [link] [comments] |
Using iCloud as sole cloud storage option on Windows Posted: 02 Nov 2018 08:35 AM PDT Hi everyone! I originally posted this on r/iCloud, but it seems like this might be the better place for it. I currently have a 2TB subscription to iCloud for our families' phone/ iPad / photo backups. That's WAAAAY more than we need, but it's the only level that got us the sufficient amount of storage. We have iPads and iPhones, but we use Windows PCs, not Macs. For a variety of reasons, that cannot change. Anyway, since I'm paying for a ton of storage I'm not using, I'm debating possibly just buying MS Office 2019 for my PC and cancelling my Office 365 / OneDrive subscription and switching over to just using the iCloud storage. However, not being a Mac user, I wondered if anyone had any experience using iCloud as the primary cloud storage service in Windows. What I would want to do:
I might try migrating some files over to iCloud and giving it a try for a bit, but I appreciate anyone's input. The last time I messed with iCloud on Windows it was a mess, but that was several years ago, so I appreciate any updated impressions. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Getting one file not to sync locally to my Mac Posted: 02 Nov 2018 04:37 PM PDT Basically as the title. I have a file that I want to store in the cloud but I do not want on my Mac. Everything else fits, so I also don't want unnecessary downloadings on my other files, just that one. Is this achievable? [link] [comments] |
13" MacBook Air 2018 256GB SSD or 13" MacBook Pro mid 2018 NTB 256GB SSD for schooling? Posted: 02 Nov 2018 08:09 PM PDT Hello all, Currently looking for a new device for schooling and am torn between these two options. Both cost within $50 AUD of each other (MacBook Air costs $2,149 and the MacBook Pro is $2,199 when both are given the 256GB storage upgrades) Processing power wise, the MacBook Pro beats the MacBook Air in every conceivable way with higher performance overall and a stronger integrated graphics card to boot, however I am still unsure of if its wort it to get somewhat older hardware with a 7th generation processor that is indeed faster than compared to the MacBook Air which has Intels 8th generation processors inside. As said before, this is being used for schooling so performance isn't really that important, (Its only a word processing and assignment machine), however I would still like to be able to do light gaming on the machine from time to time, and would not like the experience to be worse than what I received on my late 2013 retina 15 inch MacBook Pro with the 2.0GHz haswell i7 and intel iris pro integrated graphics, I have also however heard that the MacBook Air does sport 2 extra hours of battery life in a lot of workloads compared to the MacBook Pro 13 inch which could be compelling. TL;DR, MacBook Pro 13 inch NTB mid 2018 256GB SSD or 2018 MacBook Air 256GB for school and light gaming? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Battery issues... anyone else? Posted: 02 Nov 2018 04:14 PM PDT Hello! I got my first iPhone (iPhone 7+) about a year ago, and I've noticed that recently, my battery seems to be dying very quickly. My battery only lasts me about half a day on battery saver mode, and I'm curious if anyone else has encountered this problem. [link] [comments] |
Improving on an early 2008 iMac but screwed up Posted: 02 Nov 2018 07:39 PM PDT Hi, all: My new(er) Macbook Air has started having issues, so I thought it might help to get my old, early 2008 iMac in better health just as a backup device in case of emergencies (I write and teach so need to meet deadlines). Well, this is where I encountered issues. Because it's so old, and probably its version (I think Snow Leopard) my browsers can't open up certain webpages. Well, this includes the pages I need to buy the software updates (I think Mountain Lion is the highest I can go on it, but I could be wrong). I also tried running Onyx on it, but Onyx told me I needed to run the installation disc on it. "What do you know," I said. "I still have the installation disc after all these years." So I started running it. Suddenly, a message popped up--telling me to insert installation disc 2. "There's a second installation disc?" Gulp. So I guess my question is twofold:
Sorry for the layspeak. I'm not a luddite but I'm definitely no expert either. [link] [comments] |

MacBook Pro 2016 keyboard repair suggestions Posted: 02 Nov 2018 02:35 PM PDT Hey so I got a MacBook Pro 2016 touchbar 13 in. And trying to clean out my keys, I broke the spacebar. I did what Apple said to do in removing the keys and yet the support piece still came off along with the space bar as well as all the snap pieces breaking off. I don't have Apple care and I have researched that it would cost about 500 bucks to fix with Apple. Does anyone have any other solutions to fixing this without dealing with Apple ? Suddenly unable to log in to Reddit on Safari - MacOS 10.13.6 Posted: 02 Nov 2018 01:33 PM PDT I normally browse Reddit on a MBP 2010 17" i7, currently running 10.13.6. Today if I try to log in it flashes up a message saying that the login was successful, buy redirects me to the generic https://www.reddit.com, and I am clearly not logged in. I can log in using Firefox, so my account is not compromised. The same behaviour happens for attempts to log in to https://www.reddit.com, https://old.reddit.com, https://pay.reddit.com. I normally use Little Snitch app firewall, Wipr ad-remover, and Cookie to manage cookes. I have tried disabling Little Snitch, disabling Wipr, and clearing Reddit cookies from Cookie. I can't see anyone else reporting a problem. [link] [comments] |
My touchscreen stop working and i want to fix it myself but dont know where to start. Please help Posted: 02 Nov 2018 05:11 PM PDT So my sister gave me her old iphone 5s about a month ago, we dont have a lot of money so this was a great present (i had an iphone 4 but it was really laggy and hard to use it).The only problem with the phone was that the screen didnt work, i send it to a technical support store in my country so they can fix the problem, they did but, one week later the phone presented the same problem again. I went to the technical support store once again, they charge me over AGAIN, insisting that the phone needed news part to fix it .So now after another 3 weeks since the phone was back to normal and working, the touch screen stopped working again.I know the technical support store should fix my problem without charging me again, but in my country these kind of things happens a lot, the department where someone can send complains works really slowly and awfully, and i dont want to fight for 3 months just to get my iphone fix. So i ask you people of reddit for help, if you know a way for me to fix the problem. I already reboot the phone, restore it and deleted everything (via itunes, i cant use the phone in any way the touchscreen doesnt work at all). Searching in the web i found some youtube videos were the people open the iphone and fix it but there are like 5 videos with no explicit indications. Please help!! I dont want to go to another support shop and dont have money to buy another phone.Im really angry and sad that this happens again :( any help is welcome! PS: Sorry for any english mistakes, hope everything is undestood. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 02 Nov 2018 12:03 PM PDT I broke my phone and it was typing the password in by itself and I got it fixed today (not by apple) but it's disabled and telling me to connect to iTunes and I googled how to do it but I don't have a Mac book or an available computer. Being forced to use my Dad's card for a free app Posted: 02 Nov 2018 05:32 AM PDT I'm trying to install a free app on my iPhone to transfer some photos to my Android. I no longer use my iPhone, but I don't want to leave the family sharing because I still use Apple Music premium that my Dad pays for. It's now asking me to verify my payment method by giving the 3-digit security code for my Dad's card. It didn't used to do this before I switched phones. Any way to get around this? Thanks.
