Just got my first iPhone today! Posted: 01 Jun 2018 07:34 PM PDT I had never really owned a smartphone, just didn't have the money in the budget to afford one, but after working some odd jobs the past few weeks, I could finally afford a phone. I bought an 8gb iPhone 4 off ebay for $17.19, and I'm finally glad I bit the bullet and got a phone. I know it's not the most up to date or the fastest or anything, but I still love the thing. Posted: 02 Jun 2018 06:52 AM PDT The phone itself is in great condition. Only a few scratches on the back, but it's jet black so that was expected. The phone is also still under AppleCare+ until August The battery capacity is only at 81%, is it worth just getting an entire replacement for $99 instead of just the battery? Hoping it lasts me a couple years then [link] [comments]
The biggest feature in iOS 12 would be having the DND icon on status bar on iPhone X Posted: 02 Jun 2018 12:51 AM PDT Because I'm fast losing patience with this clusterfuck of an oversight from Apple. Almost every other day I forget to turn off DND because the icon doesn't show on the iPhone X unless you pull down the control center. Something that stops people from being able to contact you should be front and center. [link] [comments]
Is the Podcast app sucking more and more or is it just me? Posted: 02 Jun 2018 08:35 AM PDT I listen to podcasts more than I do anything else on my phone and the app has all of a sudden turned into a major suckhole. The new interface is horribly hard for me to use and the app takes longer to load than any other app I own. I feel like if it's one of the core Apple apps they would have had the ability to streamline its loading a bit. Am I crazy, is it my older 6+ that's to blame, or do you have the same issue? TLDR: I think the new podcast app blows. Do you? [link] [comments]
Just Got My First iPhone, and Haven't Looked Back Since Posted: 02 Jun 2018 09:54 AM PDT I just got my iPhone 8 about two weeks ago, and I've never been so happy with a phone. After two Androids and one Windows Phone (ew, I know) this is by far the single best phone I've ever owned. The only complaint I have is about the battery. After paying $700 for a phone, I shouldn't have to put my phone on low power mode towards the back half of the day. But beyond that, I'm absolutely in love. The True Tone display, the camera, the speakers, the overall build quality, just everything about this phone is spot on. I never thought I'd say this, but I really don't miss the headphone jack. I thought that losing it would be a big deal, with the included EarPods, I'm doing just fine. Though, I do intend on getting a pair of AirPods at some point later this summer. I use to hate iPhones, and really anything Apple, but after this, I'm completely sold on the ecosystem. Everything from Apple Music, to Siri just works, and I love it. After being a long time Linux user, it's such a relief to know that no matter what, everything will work together with no issues. But I'm rambling a bit, so I'll stop here.TL;DR - Damn, I love my iPhone [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Jun 2018 08:05 AM PDT My earpods that came with my iPhone finally broke so I'm wondering if it's worth it to go ahead and buy Airpods or wait for the rumored updated version? [link] [comments]
How safe is Messages in iCloud? Not from a security standpoint, from a backup standpoint. Posted: 02 Jun 2018 04:49 AM PDT Is there any chance it could mess up and delete conversations? Are messages still stored locally and in the cloud or just in the cloud? If the server my messages are on gets corrupted, would I still have my messages? Is keeping them off the cloud better for someone who doesn't want to lose them? [link] [comments]
iPhone X and Note 8 (and Android/iOS) comparison Posted: 02 Jun 2018 09:43 AM PDT I've been an android user for the last few years. Started out with smartphones on the iPhone 3, but switched to the Samsung Galaxy S5 when Apple refused to come out with a large screen phone for the iPhone 4. Been on various androids since then. My last one was the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 (still have it, just in case this doesn't work out). Now I've been on the iPhone X for the last week. Here are my random thoughts on both phones/OSes. - The iPhone X is (gladly) small compared to the SGN8. I can use it one-handed, which is what I was looking for. It's nice to have a phone that doesn't stick out of the top of my pocket by 2-3 inches. - The SNG8 is huge! All that screen real estate... Awesomeness! Still, the iPhone X screen surprisingly feels large, in a phone this compact. I like a big screen, but I don't feel like I'm missing out with the iPhone X. - The iPhone X has a good heft to it; feels nice. The SNG8 now feels top-heavy to me. - It's pretty apparent that iPhone really pays attention to haptics. I didn't have a problem with SGN8 haptics, but after using the iPhone X, I now feel like Samsung/Android just throws in haptics as an afterthought. On the iPhone they are so precise and thoughtfully integrated. - Wow, Apple still doesn't let you place apps anywhere you want on the screen, eh? At least I can do folders now, and have more pages without filling up the previous one. Homescreen (or any, for that matter) customization be damned, Apple says! - I love my homepage(s) setup on Android. I miss that ability to create "my" layout. - Widgets – I really thought I would miss my various widgets on Android. But I still have them on iOS – they are just all on one dedicated widget page, instead of spread out on multiple pages. I can live with that. - What's up with Weather Underground app on iOS? It's slow and clunky. It was awesome on Android; it's crap on iOS. You'd think a major app would have equal development. Guess not. - Ringtones & notifications – and here is an area where Android not only excels, but it really isn't even close at all. First I have to jump through hoops to make my existing ringtones (the ones I used on Android) into ones acceptable to Apple. And then, getting them on the phone is not intuitive at all. Next, not every iOS app will let me choose to use them. And come to find out iOS doesn't give most 3rd party apps the option to change the notification sound. My Google Calendar notification sound I've become accustomed to over the years? Nope, can't change it to that – gotta use the only one sound available. This isn't a "oh well, that's just the way Apple does it" thing; this is an "Apple telling you to F Off thing". Sure – it's a small thing, but this is pretty dumb. - Sorry for that rant. :) - iPhone X gestures – I wouldn't call them "intuitive", but it didn't take long to master at all. And they are pretty easy/fast to use. - Having said that – boy I really miss the Back button on Android. So much better. Muscle memory is a hard thing to break; I still find myself hitting where it should be at the end of an article or whatnot. It's a tad annoying to have to swipe down, in most cases, and then hit the arrow at the upper left. - Battery life. Neither is awesome, but I am getting significantly better life from the iPhone X. Some people were able to get 5-6hrs SoT with the SGN8, but I wasn't one of them. I'd get around 3hrs, and my battery would be around 20% by 17:00. With the iPhone I'm at about 50% at the same time. - iOS native Podcasts app is not great. PocketCasts is. I'm still giving Podcasts a shot, just to "stay native", but it's not loaded with features, like PocketCasts is. I'm guessing I'll switch after another two weeks or so of annoyance. - iPhone X - Backup your whole phone, natively? Why yes, please do! Android – yeah, not so much. - Texting. I guess I don't understand the "advantages" of iMessage. I send texts and received them just fine on both platforms. I do miss Textra, which is quite possibly the best texting app out there. - Control Center – more or less equivalent to Quick Settings on Android. And wait – Apple let's me customize this just about as much as I could Quick Settings? What the heck is going on here? :) - Face ID – Now this is nice. Lift the phone a little bit, look at it, and it's unlocked by the time I swipe up. No delay. Generationally better than the mediocre fingerprint sensor which frequently takes two or three taps, or the decent-but-slow iris unlock on the SGN8. - Apple Pay vs Samsung Pay. Samsung Pay is definitely the king; that MST is hard to beat. I've had Samsung Pay throw errors before, but I've simply "swiped" again, and it worked. So far I've tried to use Apple Pay three times, and it's only worked once. Not looking good. - Notifications. Well, Android does this much better overall with regard to notification control and dismissal, but Apple has a cool trick up it's sleeve. On iPhone X, when a notification comes in on the locked phone, you'll get a bubble that shows the app icon, and simply the word "Notification". But if you look at the phone in a manner that Face ID sees you looking at it, the bubble will then change to show the content of the notification. That's pretty cool. - Related to the notifications trick above is the phone ringer on the iPhone X. When the phone is locked and a call comes in, the ringer rings like normal. If you look at the phone in a manner that Face ID sees you looking at it, the ringer goes from normal volume to a much lower less annoying volume while you decide if you want to take the call or not. That is very cool! - Speaking of phone calls, the SGN8 has a "Reject Call" on-screen button. The iPhone X doesn't. To reject a call, you have to press the side button. But this is not intuitive, as there is no screen hint to tell you that. Just put a dang "Reject Call" button on the screen! This is another instance of Apple being too clever by half. - Edge screen on the SGN8. Well this is surprising – I didn't think I'd miss this at all, but I do. I had a few apps I rarely used (two or three times a week) stored here. Muscle memory again – I've reached to swipe on the iPhone X for the Edge screen to launch those apps quite a few times now. - iOS 11 – kinda buggy. Apple can no longer claim, "it just works". What happened with this? They used to be known for their solid software. Guess not so much anymore. It isn't worse than Android, but it's not something they can hang their hat on any longer. - And finally, S Pen. This is what I love the Note line for. Do I miss is it? Yes. Can I live without it? I suppose – but it sucks knowing what you're missing out on! Final analysis – both awesome phones with their strengths and weaknesses. Should I sell my SGN8? Probably. Will I sell my SGN8? Not sure yet. I normally switch Android phones on a whim (daily, weekly) by swapping SIM cards. That's not really an option with Android vs Apple. Guess I gotta choose! [link] [comments]

Posted: 01 Jun 2018 03:59 PM PDT Hey guys, if anyone's interested there'll be a jailbreak coming soon for iOS 11.3.1, which is still signed by Apple! If you're not bothered then cool but just thought I'd give a bit of info for some of you guys. [link] [comments]

I need help cleaning my iphone SE speaker - I dropped melted butter on it Posted: 02 Jun 2018 09:53 AM PDT So that's it I dropped melted butter on my iPhone speaker and now when I make or receive a call I can't hear "anything" (or at least is really low volume). Do you have any tips, 'cause it's not a problem with water/humidity so putting the iPhone on rice won't work. It's fat and probably is blocking the sound. Do you know any product that can clean it or idk, something that can help fix it.. Thanks a lot. [link] [comments]
How often do you guys use Animoji? Posted: 01 Jun 2018 05:43 PM PDT I have used Animoji maybe 5-6 times. When they announced it, I thought it was cool and I might use it all the time but for some reason, I do not find myself using it at all. Do you guys still use it? Whats your opinion on it after using is for many months now? [link] [comments]
Iphone 8+ videos making clicking noise after screen replacement. Posted: 02 Jun 2018 09:27 AM PDT Has this happened to anyone else? Here's the sound: https://imgur.com/5qt5vN4. I got the screen replaced at the apple store. It happens with and without a case. The noise in selfie videos is even louder, like a buzzing fan. If this happened to you what did the problem end up being? I have applecare+ luckily but I was hoping I wouldn't have to go to the apple store again for iphone problems ugh. [link] [comments]

Why is my brand new battery replacement draining battery so quickly? Posted: 02 Jun 2018 01:38 AM PDT Replaced my battery on my iPhone 7 Plus and battery drains around the same as the old battery at 89% capacity. Coconut battery estimates my battery at 600 days old. [link] [comments]

[My Music] How to consolidate my songs of unknown albums? Posted: 02 Jun 2018 08:15 AM PDT So I have 6 songs from an artist, all without an album name. When I click on the artist in My Music, it shows all 6 songs in 6 separate "Unknown Albums." What's annoying about it is that I have to click each one to see what song is in that "album." Also, when i hit "shuffle all," it won't play anything. This does not happen to artists that have actual album names. Any way to fix this? [link] [comments]
iCloud Family Sharing with a PC? Posted: 02 Jun 2018 07:48 AM PDT How does this work with the PC client? Does it only sync the organizer's photos contacts, and calendar, etc? [link] [comments]
Phone will ring and vibrate when I get an email to my @icloud, but no notification Posted: 02 Jun 2018 07:46 AM PDT I'm still getting accustomed to ios. Is there a better place to be asking these questions? A couple times I've noticed my phone will vibrate and ring, but there won't be any new notifications. After a few times I realized that it happened whenever I got an email to my newly created @icloud.com email address. The notification counter on the mail app will display correctly, but there will be no notifications which makes it a bit annoying when I check my phone for why it buzzed and don't see anything. Is this normal? How do I fix it? [link] [comments]
Different Ring/Vibrate Settings for Same Contact on Different Phones? Posted: 02 Jun 2018 07:40 AM PDT I've got kind of a peculiar question, I think, and I'm having trouble coming up with a good solution. I have an iPhone 6s. My work provides me with an iPhone 7 for being on-call. I'm signed in to a number of the same services on both phones so that my work phone is essentially a backup personal phone in a pinch. This includes my iCloud account, so that calls to either phone will ring on the other phone (via the Calls on Other Devices settings in the Phone settings) and text messages come to both phones. In Accounts & Passwords, I have my Google account configured on both phones, so that my personal contacts are synced to both phones. I generally keep my phone on vibrate and I generally keep my work phone not on vibrate. I've silenced things like Gmail from making noise on the work phone so it's not beeping and booping all day in the office unless it's work-related. The only real issue I've got with this setup is a personal text, like from my wife. Because the work phone isn't silenced, it'll ding when she texts me throughout the day. I tried setting her contact to have a silent text tone and defined a short custom vibrate pattern so it wouldn't be vibrating away in my pocket all day, and that worked, but because my contacts are synced through Google, that synced to my phone, as well. The text tone synced and now I don't get an audible notification if she texts and my phone isn't on vibrate. The custom vibrate pattern synced across as Unknown, so I don't get a vibrate notice, either. Is there a good solution to this that I'm just not thinking of? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments]
Can you search for custom tones on iTunes on iPhone? Posted: 02 Jun 2018 07:19 AM PDT I'm not sure if I'm just not selecting the right things, but if I go to iTunes to look for custom tones (Settings -> Sound -> Tone -> Custom), I get a list of the popular tones and categories to choose, but if I try to search for a specific name, it looks like I get taken to actual songs and not tones.
