Advice on IPads for note taking.

    Posted: 28 Jun 2018 11:12 AM PDT

So I'm an engineering student and I really want to make the transition to digital notes. I want to get an IPad to replace my notebooks. I found a new $500 1st gen 32 gb iPad Pro and I'm wondering if I should get that over the the standard 2018 32gb iPad ($329). I really love the idea of a bigger screen, but I don't know if its worth the extra $170 to get an three year older iPad just for a bigger screen.

I want to use this iPad for as much school work as I can (aside from using hefty engineering programs), so if you have a compelling argument for me to just splurge on the new 64gb Pro ($800), I'd love to hear it. But right now, I just don't see the benefit in the new pro besides the fact that it has a bigger screen which i could get for $300 cheaper with old pro.

    Widget dashboard a missed opportinity

    Posted: 28 Jun 2018 04:46 AM PDT

Does anyone else find that the Widget Dashboard is a missed opportinity?

I remember in iOS 10/iOS 11 Beta 1, it had the option for the widgets to be two columned when in landscape mode. Now it is always just one single column. Such wasted space.

FYI... I am running iOS 12 Beta 2 and it is not there.

    Worth updating to ios 11.4?

    Posted: 28 Jun 2018 12:52 PM PDT

I have heard that the battery live is absolutely terrible. I am on 11.1 currently and have no major problems.Only minor glitches here and there. Should I wait for the 11.4.1 update?

    iPad 6th Gen. Mount

    Posted: 28 Jun 2018 08:15 AM PDT

Hi, I'm looking for a mount for a 6th ken iPad, no need for an arm and it's not going to be flush against a wall just a way to secure it to a desk if that makes sense.

    Thanks!

    iPad for a MLAB student

    Posted: 28 Jun 2018 01:23 PM PDT

Hello. I have browsed a little bit on this subreddit and read a few post with similar dilemma as me: whether iPad 2018 is good enough for me. I am mostly using it for note taking and powerpoints, digital library for my books, some YouTube, casual digital art, and web browsing. This will be my first iPad. I am already planning to get Apple Pencil. Based on my listed usage, will it be enough? I do not want to get the pro since my iPad is mostly for class stuff but if needed I could wait for a month or two but would prefer getting the new iPad since I am taking summer classes.

    Thanks!

Anyone with TrueTone not working as expected?

    Posted: 28 Jun 2018 09:16 AM PDT

    I'm fed up with TrueTone.

    My current scenario:

    Setup A:

I am in well lighted (artificial lighting) room. I see screen looks almost pure white.

I toggle Turetone on/off once twice, no change.

    Setup B:

Turetone is ON. Screen is white.

I go to dark room, screen turns to off-white colour which is normal phenomenon.

I toggled TrueTone once twice in dark room and see display changing between white/off-white.

    Returning to set-up A:

While TrueTone is On, I enter lighted room display comes in between near white and off-white.

Here if I toggle Turetone, then its gone. Display remains white.

Conclusion: Turetone works intermittently. Apple could not help me over support channels.

I just want to know if it's Hardware Problem or Software? If it's software I can live with it but if it's Hardware, I can opt for getting it replaced if it's a major problem.

    Need further guidance.

    Thanks.

Anyone filled up their storage on their 128GB or above iPad?

    Posted: 28 Jun 2018 06:27 AM PDT

I was just wondering, has anyone filled their storage in their 128GB or above iPad?

What does it take to do that?

    Just curious. 😬

    Note: Screenshots will be awesome.

[Question] Will there ever likely be an iPad Mini 5?

    Posted: 27 Jun 2018 03:48 PM PDT

Have there been any leaks, or does anyone know the chances of an update to the Mini series? Would love one with at least an A9 chip and smaller bezels. I'm not a fan of the bigger iPads, the Mini is perfect size for me but really slow & laggy especially on iOS 11. I did have an iPad Pro 10.5 and whilst the performance and 120Hz is really nice I didn't enjoy the size and portability of it. Same with the 9.7 inch unfortunately

Just got a replacement iPad Pro for display halos along one edge (backlight bleeding?) and frequent touch unresponsiveness...

    Posted: 28 Jun 2018 09:37 AM PDT

...but I still don't know how that happened and would like to avoid that happening again. 2nd Gen iPad Pro 12 inch...question, could the unofficial 3 meters charging cable I use ever cause toich and display problems? Just to make sure.

I also sometimes use the iPad in my terrace under the sun (iPad being somewhat shadowed), where it heats up a lot and the screen begins dimming on and off. I don't think that would be a problem though since I read the device seems to have heat protection mechanisms.

What about the cable, can it ever be so wrong as to make the display go caput?

Do you use screen protector for your iPad?

    Posted: 28 Jun 2018 01:52 AM PDT

In may I was for the first time in US and got myself an iPad 2017. I love the device and I got a glass screen protector for it. However, it broke just before I installed it and I need to replace it. Do you use SP for iPad? Do you get any scratches if you don't?

Should I buy an old iPad mini?

    Posted: 27 Jun 2018 10:50 PM PDT

I'm thinking of picking up an iPad mini 1st or 2nd generation. I just want an iPad for watching and reading things in bed or on the go.

Does the new iOs really make the old iPad mini models that bad?

What old iPad or iPad mini model is worth buying for everyday media consumption?

    Emulators for PC?

    Posted: 28 Jun 2018 12:29 AM PDT

Apologies if this has been asked. Is there any emulators out there, that are safe/virus free and free to use that can be played on a Windows 7 PC? My iPad suddenly died about a month ago (it was working perfectly fine and just died), I have no way to get it fixed (no place around where I live repairs them), almost got enough to go to walmart and buy a new one (not sure when I will be able to). Have no way to get there myself (family member has my car). So until I can get enough and get to walmart somehow to get a new one I was hoping there was a free emulator I could play my games on.

    Thanks.

iPad Air 1 worth it for $80?

    Posted: 27 Jun 2018 03:01 PM PDT

My friend is offering me an iPad Air for $80. Is this price worth it? I'm not doing anything major on it just want to use it for media consumption. How does it handle software in 2018 and is this price worth it?

Using Tempered Glass or Matte Protector on iPad 2018?

    Posted: 27 Jun 2018 06:34 PM PDT

I'm switching from my Surface Pro 3 to a 2018 iPad and I was wondering if I should get a tempered glass protector (9H thick) or matte screen protector (3-4H level - thinner)

I'm going to primarily be using the iPad for class notes, PDFs, drawing metabolic pathways and such. I also HATE glare so I'm leaning towards the thinner matte protector. Will this cause any issues with writing or ruin the experience?

I plan on also getting a logitech K480 keyboard and going without a case for the iPad. I drop my iPhone often (has case + glass protector) but I've never dropped my Surface Pro so I feel like I shouldn't need a case. Plus I like the fact that the logitech keyboard is detached and can pair to multiple devices (I also have a windows laptop at home)

With this being said, this will be my first apple product that I use for school purposes, am I making the right call with my choices above?

    Thank You!
