WWDC 2018 | Post-Event Megathread Posted: 04 Jun 2018 12:19 PM PDT Hello /r/Apple and welcome to the post-event megathread for WWDC 2018. Let us know what you think! Note:
Beta Discussion As a reminder, we do not allow bug discussion on beta releases. A megathread will be made after the event for iOS 12, watchOS 5, tvOS 12, and macOS 10.14 so users can have a way to discuss findings about the new updates. [link] [comments] |

Can we all agree that Craig Federighi is a brilliant presenter. Posted: 04 Jun 2018 01:31 PM PDT I am always hooked when he is on the stage, he is very good at keeping your attention, much more so than any others. Tim is still great too! Well done Craig and the rest of the Apple Team for today! [link] [comments] |

Now it makes sense why Apple acquired the company behind Workflow! Posted: 04 Jun 2018 12:47 PM PDT I am really looking forward to the new Shortcuts app. I always felt Workflow's potential was limited due to the iOS API, I've always wanted them to access system-level stuff. I've already heard people criticizing it saying "since Siri can't find out what you want, just go do it yourself" as if that's a bad thing or something. I AM SO GLAD I CAN DO IT MYSELF. Too many people are becoming dependent in a way and this sense of control makes me really excited for iOS 12. Yes, it's a shame that Siri can't keep up but I have a feeling Apple is going to use all of these user-created shortcuts to improve Siri overall, it's just a matter of time! [link] [comments] |

iOS 12 performance is seriously impressive. Posted: 04 Jun 2018 02:57 PM PDT So I've got an iPad mini 2 and I pretty much declared it dead a while ago. The loading times and performance were just horrible, and I deemed it unusable. Fast forward to today, running the latest beta and I am shocked. This thing is practically new. The OS is snappy, apps load up a lot faster, and it really feels like it has gotten a second life. Thanks, Apple. [link] [comments] |

1Password just posted a video of the new password integration feature in iOS 12 Posted: 04 Jun 2018 07:31 PM PDT Saves a few seconds and taps. iOS 12 delivers. Sometimes these little things are more exciting than the big announcements on stage. [link] [comments] |

We asked for performance and stability; we've got them! Posted: 04 Jun 2018 09:04 PM PDT There's been some concerns about software quality at Apple, so iOS 12 was expected to be lighter in features and more focused on quality. Having used the first beta for a couple of hours, I think Apple has achieved the goal. I loaded iOS 12 on my iPhone X and an old iPad Mini 2. The performance improvement is not very noticeable on the iPhone X; the biggest improvement I noticed is that searching in Spotlight is super responsive - results just pop up instantly. The iPad Mini 2, on the other hand, is quite a bit better. I previously had to turn off animation and translucency, and the device still struggled mightily. After installing iOS 12, it's much less painful – No, it's not "buttery smooth," but it's actually usable. Stability is likewise astonishingly good. No crashes of any kind so far, the OS feels more polished, and nothing quirky stands out. This is the most stable iOS beta I've ever used. It actually feels more polished than iOS 11 in production (although this might be placebo effect...). Anyways, I'm super excited about where iOS is headed. It feels like a rock solid foundation again! [link] [comments] |
