| Buying an iPad without being in the Apple ecosystem? Posted: 07 Apr 2018 07:26 PM PDT I've been eyeing the new iPad that was announced at the Education Keynote, and it seems perfect for me. I've loved tablets for years, and in 2018, the iPad is really the only option, as Android tablets are basically non-existent. However, the only thing holding me back is that I'm not part of the Apple ecosystem. I use a custom built Windows PC, a Galaxy S7 Edge, Spotify, Amazon Echo, and a Smart TV. The only real Apple device I still own is a 2013 MacBook Air that is literally falling apart. I'm not sure if it would be a good idea to purchase the new iPad if I can't take full advantage of it with iMessage, Apple Music, etc. [link] [comments]  |

| MBP 2015 13" Battery Replaced but % still wrong. Posted: 07 Apr 2018 06:34 PM PDT I've had the issue where my battery on my 13" mac book pro 2015 has died. I replaced the battery, and I'm having a problem where I connect the charger, the screen brightens and the battery gets the "lightning," however there is no green light from the charger and clicking the battery icon states "Battery is Not Charging." I have tried restarting the laptop and also fully charging it, letting it drop to 0%, etc. When it dies it will not turn on for a while. And even resetting the SMC multiple times has yet to fix this. I spent too much on a battery replacement and I'm looking for any solutions to fix this! [link] [comments]  |

| Posted: 07 Apr 2018 06:45 PM PDT One (1) HD from ~2008 MacBook, Model A1181. I don't know what operating system I last installed on it. Connected to current laptop using Sabrent 2.5" SATA Hard Drive/SSD to USB 3.0 Adapter
One (1) Late-2015 MacBook Pro, High Sierra 10.13.3. Has two Thunderbolt 2 ports, two USB 3 ports, and HDMI port.
So I have access to my old HD. I had to update iPhoto and convert the library to fit the Photo format. Now I have two files, PhotosLibrary.photoslibrary (169.3MB) and iPhotoLibrary.migratedphotolibrary (117.1MB). I imported the PhotosLibrary into Photos (obviously), and only 18 photos showed up!! They each only range between 20-50KB, which doesn't exactly add up to such large file sizes.[link] [comments]  |
| Question about importing an old iCloud backup onto my new iPhone Posted: 07 Apr 2018 10:22 PM PDT Old iPhone5 was backed up on iCloud. iPhone five died and can't be turned on again. Purchased iPhone 8. Turned on, logged into iCloud, chose option to setup iPhone as new. Didn't import from backup. So I've set up all my apps and settings. It's running good. I wanted to start fresh because the only thing I really lost in the old phone was all my txt messages which I don't really need back. However, looking at my iCloud, there is 1gb of Backup data from the old iPhone 5. Questions: I'm curious what's in that backup, maybe I can my txts back. Can I import it? Will it override all my fresh work, or can I import parts that I want, for example just the txts? Will they override the very few txts I have had since I set up? As you can tell, I'm pretty happy how it is, but I'm interested to know if that old backup is worth keeping, or I delete it and start a fresh backup from the new iPhone 8. Thanks. | MacBook Pro 13 early 2015 (A1502) not charging even after replacing battery Posted: 07 Apr 2018 04:18 PM PDT My Macbook Pro stopped charging and I could only turn it on while plugged in, so I opened it and discovered the battery had swollen. But even after replacing it it's still not charging, and even though the battery indicator now says it's at 56%, as soon as I unplug it the laptop dies. The magsafe light is amber color so I guess it is receiving power but the laptop won't charge. I also tried SMC and PRAM resets several times to no avail. Anyone knows what could be the issue here? | iPhone stuck in recovery mode after restore and update Posted: 07 Apr 2018 10:16 PM PDT I was charging my iPhone 6S with an off-brand charger earlier and got the support.apple.com/iphone/restore message on my phone, recovery mode. When I bought an official charger and got to iTunes to try to update the phone, it completed everything but then the same update or restore message popped up. I figured that meant I needed to restore my phone but even after the restore and iTunes telling me the phone will now restart, it is still stuck in recovery mode? My mac and iTunes are both updated. | Siri activates when using headphone jack Posted: 07 Apr 2018 09:19 PM PDT Whenever I plug speakers into my 6s (earpods, headphones etc.) Siri and play/pause will randomly activate. The inline controls on my EarPods don't work either when they work fine on my 5s. I have already cleaned out the jack, restarted the phone etc. It's running iOS 11.3. Would this be a problem with the headphone/lightning assembly itself? Just want to confirm because I'll probably replace it. [link] [comments]  |

Every night for a long time I would go to SC2Casts and find a video to watch, touch the top left button to pop out the video, and then load up another application. I was able to have that video playing while i played another game or browsed another website. Then, one night, everything changed. I am suddenly unable to do this. The popout button is gone and I am also unable to fullscreen, either. The Full Screen button is there, but it just says my browser doesn't support it (same thing with three browsers I've tried). I've tried YTs application as well, but that is a no go. Any idea why this won't work anymore? [link] [comments]  |
| My MacBook seems to be blocking http at a particular IP address Posted: 07 Apr 2018 05:07 PM PDT This is driving me crazy. I just set up a new wordpress hosting, and I am in the middle of transferring my domain (but I haven't initiated the transfer yet). Meanwhile, I'm working on the website via IP address and spoofing my /etc/hosts file so that my domain points to the new website host's IP address. /etc/hosts has the following line added: <ip address> <mydomain.com> <www.mydomain.com> I have this done on two MacBooks. On one, it works perfectly. On the other, this INTERMITTENTLY works...but more often than not, my browser (I've tried both safari, and a fresh chrome browser that I just installed just to help figure out this problem) will fail to load the page...it will time out. Also, same behavior is observed when trying to fetch the webpage via curl on the command line, so it's not a browser thing. I even fired up wireshark, I'm getting so desperate. In the failing case, the SYN packet goes out, and I don't see a reply (SYN/ACK). In the working case, of course I see the SYN SYN/ACK ACK handshake complete without issue, followed by the actual http transaction. This is working on every computer I've tried this on so far except for my personal MacBook, which is the computer that I really want to use. By the way, when things aren't working, I can still ping my website. In both working and nonworking cases, traceroute looks pretty much identical. Anyone have any leads on this insane behavior? I think I'm about to go crazy. EDIT: I turned off my firewall. No effect. Working case computer is on the same network, so I don't think it's the router. [link] [comments]  |

After updating it today, it took every single song that doesn't have an album and put it into it's own "Unknown Album" category. I would like to set up another partition for High Sierra (I have an empty partition for this purpose). I would prefer for it to use HFS+. How might I do this without adversely affecting the existing partitions? | MacBook charger refuses to work, but only in my house Posted: 07 Apr 2018 03:13 PM PDT So just moved into a new rental house. My wife has a 2013 apple MacBook Pro laptop. The charger for this laptop will not work on a single outlet in the new house. We have replaced the charger with an amazon cheapie, a new apple 60W and even tried a new apple 85W charger, both new from the Apple Store. None of them will supply power to her laptop when plugged in in our home. They all work when taken to another house or coffee shop. I'm not an electrical wiz but have tested all the outlets and they show hey are wired correctly and measure at 120volts.... every other appliance, charger, light works like normal. | "Password Failed" message on my iPhone and Apple Watch Posted: 07 Apr 2018 02:53 PM PDT Hi guys, I need some help. Ever since I got my apple watch, I've been getting a "Password Failed. Please re-enter your iCloud Password on your iPhone." on my watch and my phone several times a day. I enter the password and it goes away for a few hours then comes back. It's annoying because it always comes back up and I'm not sure what the problem is or how to properly fix it. I also tried to completely sign out of iCloud and sign back in but then iMessages on my Apple Watch doesn't work anymore. SMS still send and receive fine but not iMessage. It's not until I restart the Apple Watch that iMessage works again... but then the "Password Failed" messages comes back. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Posted: 07 Apr 2018 02:17 PM PDT I just got an Apple TV 4K today, but when I'm casting something, it will immediately change to whatever's on my screen. Say I'm watching Netflix but want to be looking through reddit, if I pass a gif, it stops the show and starts playing the gif on my tv instead. Is there a way to stop this? I'm looking to make every cast intentional, rather than what's on my screen. To me, the whole point of streaming is that your phone is free to do other things. [link] [comments]  |
