Posted: 13 Jan 2018 07:52 AM PST My mother's iPhone 7 stopped working a couple days ago. She didn't drop it or anything. The screen just wouldn't turn on. She took it to Verizon and they couldn't resolve the issue either. She then took it to one these iFix it shops and they said it's a dead motherboard. Our family all has iPhone 7s but only me and my wife have insurance on ours since we use it more often. And we've all had our iPhones since summer 2016. There are no Apple stores where my mom lives. I'm sure Verizon and Apple are going to convince my mom to purchase a new phone. Has anyone else had their motherboard replaced? Is this a manufacturer default? What else can we do? Thanks! Is Facebook reading iMessages? Posted: 13 Jan 2018 04:06 AM PST Just a note my friend does not have an iPhone. So yesterday morning I get a text from my friend asking what do I think of this cars looks. I did not google this car or anything as I know what it looks like as my sister had one. Fast forward to today and suddenly I have Facebook ads for this car to lease / buy. Has anyone else encountered this? What's going on. [link] [comments]

Posted: 13 Jan 2018 01:10 AM PST Gonna go naked with my X. It's black though and there is a chance that the PVD coating will disintegrate. If it does, can I achieve a silver stainless steel frame like the silver X? If so, how? [link] [comments]
My experience with Apple's battery replacement service Posted: 12 Jan 2018 08:05 PM PST I have a 6s that I bought used (off CL) when the 7 was released. It is my first ever iPhone and coming from an Android user, it was a fantastic device (the standby battery life was amazing) on 10.3.3. Over last summer I qualified for the battery replacement program (for free as part of some recall issue), so Apple replaced the battery for free. After upgrading to iOS 11, I was no longer getting that standby battery life. I scheduled an appointment with the Apple store by me (the one in Grand Central station). Went in, they diagnosed my phone (took all of 10 minutes from the moment i stepped to to the moment they finished the diagnosis) and they said they will replace the battery as it showed ~80% of the original capacity. Went back two hours later as the phone was ready earlier than expected. Something apparently went wrong during the battery replacement, so they just gave me a new phone. It was fantastic. So, for $29 and tax, I got my iPhone 6S replaced. Just thought I'd share my positive experience with all the recent negative coverage. [link] [comments]
How to change lockscreen privacy? Posted: 13 Jan 2018 07:02 AM PST I have a friend that is thinking about getting an iPhone (they still have an ancient flip phone and don't want to upgrade at all but it's starting to not get texts and freeze when smart phones text them) and they don't like how when you get a text or call the lock screen shows the name and the text. I have seen that I can change whether I see a text or it just says that I have a text but I don't see a way to turn off the texter or callers name and have it just say I have a text or missed call. They still would like to be notified they got a text, just don't want the name and message showing up. Is there a way to do that? [link] [comments]

Google assistant users out there? How can I turn on notifications for the app? Posted: 13 Jan 2018 01:34 AM PST Trying to set a timer with it and it says I need to turn on notifications in settings, and the settings screen pops up. But there is no notification toggle at all. Any ideas? [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 Jan 2018 06:49 PM PST I took the plunge this week to go back to an iPhone after more than a year with the Pixel and then the Pixel 2. There is a lot that I like about the Google phones, but ultimately what brought me back to the iPhone is that basic functionality works better. Probably the biggest driver to come to the iPhone was Bluetooth. I have a Fitbit Blaze, Bose 35 QC, a Polar HR and Bluetooth in my car. I had so many problems getting the BT to work with my Pixel and Pixel 2. I would spend 5 minutes at the gym resetting the Polar app and rebooting my phone to get the heart monitor to work. If I forgot to turn off my Bose before I got into the car, the BT in the car didn't work. I returned an Android Wear watch because if I wore it in my car, the BT in the car didn't work. With the iPhone, it just works. Everything paired easily and just works. The BT connected to my car even though I forgot to turn off the Bose QC. Probably related to the BT issues, I had problems getting calls on the Pixel and Pixel 2. I could hear my wife when she called, but often she couldn't hear me. Again, with the iPhone, it just works. iMessage and iCal are also a big bonus since my family never strayed from the iPhone family.l Since I had to tech support both OS's, switching to one makes my technical life easier. I'll miss the notifications and Google Assistant in Android, but I think I can get used to it. The iPhone X oddly heavy. [link] [comments]
Help - unable to edit/share random photos? Posted: 13 Jan 2018 07:36 AM PST Example Screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/oYId8 You'll see that the "Edit" and share buttons are greyed out. There's nothing I can do with the photo other than delete it. Has this been happening to anybody else? I have a sneaking suspicion it is Live Photos related; it only started happening when I got the iPhone SE which was my first live-photos enabled phone. Happened on my iPhone 7, and is now happening on my iPhone X. All other photos click into animating if I force touch; but the photos that are affected like this and greyed out, cannot be force touched / animated. It seems to happen in about one in every 20-30 photos I take; it's pretty frustrating as I've been bitten before trying to share a photo and being unable to, and no longer being in the moment to be able to retake it. :( I know the solution is to turn off live photos, and I'm kind of contemplating it; but I do really like live photos and would prefer to keep them on if possible. Backups/Restores have been done multiple times on both my SE, 7, and X; doesn't seem to help at all, and this has been happening across multiple IOS versions. [link] [comments]

Posted: 13 Jan 2018 04:08 AM PST My gf has an iPhone 7 and she almost never uses WiFi at home because everything loads so slowly for her. I've got an android and never had this issue. We both just downloaded a speed test app by ookla and got the following results: My phone: Wifi: DL 40mpbs, UL 37mbps, ping 10ms 4g: DL 21mbps, UL 15mbps, ping 28ms Her iPhone Wifi: DL 72mbps, UL 29mbps, ping 28ms 4g: DL 25mbs, UL 11mbps, ping 11ms So her download speed on WiFi is WAY faster than mine, but her ping is higher which I'm guessing is why it takes her so long to load web pages. Any ideas on how to fix this? [link] [comments]

Recommending task manager app? Posted: 13 Jan 2018 09:33 AM PST Hi. Anyone working in business area or audit dealing with multiple tasks especially during busy season? I find it hard to keep all the ongoing tasks organized, and not forgetting one thing or two (such as forgetting to request a document from someone else or ask questions). Anyone has a good app they recommend? I have draft and Fantastical and all the iOS stock apps. I know Google Keep is good but I can't use it—it is blocked in China. [link] [comments] |
