Posted: 04 May 2021 09:39 PM PDT I recently upgraded to a m1 mba from a surface go 1st gen (which was fkin depressing) and I must say the performance is way outta my league, at least for the kind of task that I do which is usually web browsing, Microsoft office stuff and the most heavy thing is prolly long hour of video calls. I guess that was huge problem with my surface go, as it would get hot to touch at some point when doing long hour video calls and sometimes even YouTube lol. And so ever since I switched to the m1 mba, I never ever had to worry about any of that, its like its kinda too good for any of that thermal issues even in long hour video calls or to get sluggish at any task But I'm just wondering for other Macs that aren't m1, is that ever an issue for those intel Macs? like thermal issues during video calls or getting slow during it. Or is MacBook generally was already way beyond those issues even before the m1? cuz the m1 is my first Mac ever so just wondering if those older Macs were not too bad either for my kind of daily use [link] [comments]  | ||

I purchased it used 4 years ago for $500 CAD which was a great deal. Recently the ram has failed and the computer won't boot. Apple wants $700 for a new logic board and it doesn't seem worth it to put that money into a computer of this age. I found a guy on Craigslist who will install the same logic board for $275 but it's used and I may run into similar issues with that. Is it possible to find a place that will solder new ram? Should I just sell the computer on Craigslist for parts and move on? Any suggestions would be welcome. [link] [comments]  | ||

Posted: 04 May 2021 09:25 AM PDT I'm in the market to replace my 2018 Macbook Air and have decided to go with the MacBook Pro to change up the form factor a bit. I am only able to purchase through Amazon (collection of gift cards) so a trade in with Apple is not feasible. Currently the M1 MacBook Pro (8gb/256gb) is priced at $1,149. Amazon Renewed is offering the 2020 MacBook Pro (16gb/512gb) for $1,144. The 2020 MacBook Pro appears to be a great deal AND I currently use a dual external monitor setup in my office, which the M1 could not replicate. On the other side of the coin is the M1 processor, much longer battery life and supposedly better microphone. I'm not sure if the Wifi 6 capability is necessary at this point. | Macbook Pro, 13-Inch Early 2015 has more high end on left audio channel Posted: 04 May 2021 04:44 PM PDT I'm using Ableton live to create music, and I've noticed that when I'm using headphones, the left side produces more high end than the right, no matter what pair of headphones I'm using. At first I thought it was a problem with my own hearing, but after getting my ears checked it seems like it might be a problem with the headphone jack. In the sake of transparency, I have dropped my macbook more times than I would like to admit. Is there a fix for this, or does this come with having this model for a while? [link] [comments]  | ||

Dec 2017: Purchased w/ Apple Protection Plan Aug 2018: Sent for repair due to keyboard issues, got back my Mac w/ a new top case Sep 2020: Sent for repair due to badly swollen battery, they discovered water damaged logic board somehow, paid for new logic board even though still in warranty April 2021: (out of warranty) Macbook died suddenly. Cannot turn on. Apple says problem with logic board. New logic boards w/ repair cost would be $1000 where I'm from. No thanks. (Ordered a new M1 MBP w/ AppleCare+ instead) How I use my Mac.. Port 1 24/7 connected to external monitor, it charges my Mac at 60W rate Port 2 24/7 connected to external HDD, Time Machine auto-backup every few hours Port 3 24/7 connected to another external HDD for storage purposes Port 4 24/7 connected to Lightning connector, but mostly unused Charge Limiter app 24/7 turned on to keep my Macbook at 57% everyday (I thought it was a great idea to keep both my cycle count low and never stress at higher levels but idk) Macs Fan Control to keep my fans running at 5700RPM 24/7 to ensure my Mac doesn't get so hot Shut down every night (I know now it's not recommended) Screen always on 24/7 with Amphetamine app, occasionally I will let my Mac go to sleep 7 spaces (different screens) with multiple apps opened daily including Finder, Spotify, Things, Firefox w/ 20+ tabs usually, Google Chrome w/ 6 tabs usually, Apple Notes, OneNote, Discord, Adobe Acrobat, Calendar 366, BetterTouchTool, FastStone Image Viewer, iMazing Can you guys help identify in my daily life with my Mac, what could have contributed to a suddenly dead logic board? My M1 MBA has been horribly glitchy since the 11.3 MacOS update. It used to be lightning fast and never really freezing, suddenly some tabs open make it slower and drop FPS. Bluetooth hampers occasionally, and my battery drains way faster. Whereas I used to be able to easily work 12 hours, now it's 8 at best. What's happening? Anyone else experiencing this? Does anyone know good alternatives to powerpoint that would allow me to draw with the apple pencil while presenting on my ipad in screensharing mode? I found powerpoint extremely inconvenient to use with the pencil, as its difficult to cancel any drawings and accessing the pen tool is quite inconvenient too [link] [comments]  | ||

| Zoom destroys old macbook graphics card Posted: 04 May 2021 08:07 AM PDT Because the uni I go to and the school I teach at are digital this year, my old Macbook Pro has been getting a lot of use ( also with Netflix). It just collapsed and stopped rebooting in the middle of a Zoom meeting. Now I only have access online with the school-issued ipad ( which I can't use for Uni). I just called the repair shop, and he said that the older macs can't handle Zoom, that the graphics cards get fried. Now I may have to wait 2 weeks for the macbook to get repaired.... or replace it.
