About the new IPad Pro thats coming out

    Posted: 25 Mar 2021 02:58 PM PDT

    I know I know....

My faithful 2018 Pro just died. Battery swell so much the screen poped off. Its dead. I am in desperate need of a new IPad. Like as soon as humanly possible.

Can anyone please give me a decent guess as to when the new model is coming out.

This has probably been discussed 100 times.I am sorry for asking such a stupid question but I don't follow the leaks.

Touch ID reliability on the iPad 6th generation

    Posted: 25 Mar 2021 02:28 PM PDT

On my iPad 6th generation, with the first generation Touch ID, there needs to be absolutely no oil on my finger or the sensor for it to unlock. I have to wipe my finger and the sensor almost every time.

Is this to be expected with the first generation sensor? What is your experience with it if you also own an iPad 6th generation?

[Long post] I’ve spent 4 months creating a list of 175 iPadOS/iOS changes/bugs that should be implemented/fixed. What do?

    Posted: 25 Mar 2021 06:47 AM PDT

I warned you, this is a long post. If you have free time, love Apple devices and want to provide your opinion then please continue. I'm also posting this to various Apple related subs to get different points of view.

Before I begin, I live in Canada and my career background is 4 years of being a QA Tester and currently a little over 4.5 years of being a Production Deployment Specialist. So, I've worked in the software industry roughly 8.5 years now. From that time I've learned quite a lot of how the different departments see a product/project from various perspective. These include; QAs, managers, developers, UX specialists, business admins, security compliance, help desk phone support and of course end users

I've taken my experience and free time to create a (massive in my opinion) list of 142 tweaks/QoL/features and an additional 33 bugs I've encountered that should be addressed to make iPadOS/iOS buttery smooth. That's 175 total changes and more I think up every day... more than the entire first generation of Pokémon.

This project has taken me the last 4 months using an iPad 7th generation which is all I could afford (and a workplace provided iPhone 12 Pro) as my main devices to see if iPads really are computer/laptop killers. Although I can't quite say iPads are computer/laptop killers at the moment, with the changes I suggest it would make iPadOS/iOS a much smoother experience that also provides more powerful functions/preferences/info for advanced users.

Both devices I used are on the latest version 14.4.1 and everything in the list is still present.

The tweaks/QoL/features are in my opinion not too out of scope for where iPadOS/iOS is now and I tried to think in that mindset as well. Nothing crazy like let us dual boot macOS. I kept it as much within the realm of possibility that iPadOS/iOS currently offers.

I'm sure some of them will be outdated since iPadOS/iOS 15 changes things, but not all of it.   ———————————————

So here is my dilemma, is there even a point in me releasing this list? I'm not about to submit 175 feedback submissions to Apple, 1 at a time as in my opinion that is ridiculous and would take a long time.

What I'm more or less getting at is, should I just print this list and wipe my bum with it since the chances of Apple employees seeing it are almost zero?

Could these ideas instead be helpful to the modding community? I'm not specifically naming any place or exploit as I know that's against the rules in some subs.

The thing is I want to stay on a "closed" version due to security but with so many ideas I have, it sucks to see the potential of iPadOS/iOS being locked behind another 2-3 iPadOS/iOS versions/years of waiting.

In some cases I'm sure in the tweaks/QoL/features section I have, the function is working as designed (WAD) but in others maybe it was just an oversight? Even if say 30 of those 142 are WAD that would still leave 112 improvements.

The 33 bugs I've found, I'm more than confident they are not WAD as some are embarrassingly bad and I'm wondering how they even made it out of QA.

I'm sure there's some things in the list you might find silly or stupid. However you may even see an idea that you think "wow, Apple needs to implement this ASAP". Who knows.

    ———————————————

In terms of macOS, I would love to do a similar list for optimization as well for that operating system, but I cannot afford to at the moment.

I'm not looking for money from Apple for my ideas (as per their submission guidelines they don't offer anything), but it would be nice to have a Mac Mini M1 provided to me so I could start some exploratory testing there as well. Kind of like a reviewer or something.

Or if I end up sharing my list and of you readers likes what they see and wants to donate one of your no longer used devices. Even if it's pre-M1 or not even a Mac Mini like an outdated MacBook. I'm hoping to make the full switch to the Apple ecosystem and just want iOS/iPadOS as well as macOS to be the best it can be within expectations.

Regardless I plan to buy an M1 Mac Mini or M1X/M2 if Apple decides to give the Mac Mini a refresh by the time I might be able to afford it (probably 2022 Spring/in one year).

    ———————————————

Then again, who am I but just one out of the millions of Apple's customers and this post may just get buried and forgotten. Thought I would at least gauge interest. Thank you for reading.

MS Arc mouse won't scroll horizontally on iPad

    Posted: 25 Mar 2021 11:56 AM PDT

I have read so many rave reviews about using Arc mouse with iPad. However, I've had zero luck getting the horizontal scroll to work. I know how to do it, but if I'm trying to swipe left / right on the home screen it moves a tiny bit and then bounces back. Doesn't matter where my fingers are, how many fingers I use, etc. iPad Pro 11" / 14.4.1 Thanks!

Apps which interact with the Files app - PDFs & Quick Drawings

Apps which interact with the Files app - PDFs & Quick Drawings

Notability and similar apps are great, however often they rely on their own file storage structure. Apple notes is also good for quick notes and sketches, however in order to save to Files requires an export, which then can't be opened again into Notes.

Are there apps which can create, save to and interact with the Files app - for PDFs and/or drawings (drawings edited and saved in .PDF would be ideal). Without the need for an export from such an app into the Files app. I want all the various file types I am using in a project, whether it be a pages document, spreadsheet, PDF or drawing, to be seen in the same place.

PDF viewer has this feature, see image. You can create blank PDFs in Files and then edit them. Are there any other PDF, drawings or other apps?

Getting real tired of iPadOS and it’s constant crashes and lag (12.9 2nd gen iPad Pro)

    Posted: 24 Mar 2021 07:09 PM PDT

So I tried to get a new battery, apple told me it's at 95% and told me to get lost. The 120hz seems like it's 60 now as scrolling that used to be silky smooth is now always stuttering. When browsing Reddit, sometimes half the page is like cut off. in the middle of writing a post on reddit, if I click anywhere left above the keyboard, it puts me "back" to the previous page and I lose my comment. Some apps take forever to open, Phillips hue app for one takes about 5 seconds to open. Yes 5. Before it was around 30 seconds until I did a delete/reinstall.

don't get me wrong, I really like it but these things are really annoying me to the point of wanting to ditch it for a Samsung. Another glitch, that again just happened, is half way through wriggle a comment, the keyboard will stop responding on reddit. Also the shit 1080p screen also sucks.

Are there any other people who enjoy the typing experience on the 11" iPad Pro w/ Magic Keyboard over the 2020 13" MBP?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2021 09:32 PM PDT

I just got done doing a bit of homework and realized that after switching back and forth from my MBP to my iPad for schoolwork, something about the typing experience on my iPad is much more enjoyable. I think that I have narrowed it down to the keyboard being more compressed than that of my 13" MBP. In translation, it means that my fingers really do not have to move very much in order to type efficiently. Whereas on my MBP, it is taking quite a while for my fingers to adjust to the keystrokes since it is a bit more spread out.

    Does anyone else feel this?

How to disable airplane mode notification?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2021 03:34 PM PDT

I have a 5th generation iPad and I use it for my work music... I turn it to airplane mode so I don't get notifications over the stereo, and also to prevent Spotify from registering as online. But every time I open Spotify, it sends me a "disable airplane mode..." notification. Obviously I know that I'm in airplane mode and I don't need to see the notification every time I open the app. How can I eliminate this notification entirely? Thanks!
