MacBookAir vs pro Posted: 29 Aug 2020 09:45 PM PDT I am going into university for engineering and need a new laptop. The specs I am seeking are: i7, 16gb ram, 512 SSD. I can customize both the air and the pro to those specs. The difference in price would be about $400 CAD, the air being cheaper. Question is, I have since moved to a different cell phone carrier, and ended on bad terms with the one the current iPhone is on. I'm trying to go through recovery to reset my password, but when I log in with my icloud account details, it says my account can't unlock the drive. I bought this computer secondhand, but everything is setup with my icloud account. 2017 iMac keeps randomly shutting off Posted: 29 Aug 2020 08:14 PM PDT Since updating to Catalina several months ago, my iMac will shot off randomly, especially while using Adobe Lightroom and photoshop. It'll be fine for a month or two and then, for a handful of days, it'll shut off multiple times each day. In order to turn it back on, I have to unplug it for a few minutes. I've replaced the power cord, tried multiple outlets, reverted to older versions of Lightroom and photoshop. Safari Extensions That Don't Cause YouTube Playback Errors Posted: 29 Aug 2020 10:06 PM PDT Hello! For the last two months or so, loading YouTube videos viewed through Safari on my Mac and iPad have shown a blank black box. Clicking on the box shows the error "An error occurred. Please try again later. (Playback ID: rAEH86FlhCRqXstU)" It's an adblock problem, since disabling all ad blocking extensions resolves the issue. I've been mix-and-matching half a dozen different extensions to try to isolate the variable but it doesn't seem to make a difference; any ad-blocker causes the error. All my software is up-to-date. It is only used as a YouTube box because since it was new every click you make is followed by the spinning wheel of death. It has the latest OS. Updates have not improved performance. I would like to use more of this machine's potential. What can be done to get this operating properly? Also, if I give up this machine and buy a new one, what is the likelihood of its problems being transferred to the new Mac mini when the data is copied over? Should I update? Posted: 29 Aug 2020 07:36 PM PDT I have an old 2009 Polycarbonate Unibody MacBook A1342. I have upgraded the RAM to 8GB 1067MHz, and installed an SSD, as well as cleaned a ton of dust and the fans and applied new thermal paste. But it still has that old Core 2 Duo and Nvidia GeForce 9400M integrated graphics. Should I update it to macOS Catalina, though it's not officially supported, or even Big Sur once it comes out? Posted: 29 Aug 2020 03:31 PM PDT I had no storage on my phone so I decided to delete the majority of videos and photos on my phone. But whenever I deleted them they came back. I read that it's because iCloud backup is turned in. I turned it off and now everything is doubling. I'll have 2 of the same videos and pictures. My 12,000 pictures will become 24,000 and my 300 videos will become 600. Worth keeping 2017 MBP after warranty? Posted: 29 Aug 2020 05:19 PM PDT I have a (nearly) top spec 2017 MBP 15", and the warranty ends in a few months. My friend told me the keyboard warranty was extended to 4 years, but I'm concerned about other issues. My USB ports are having issues, and my trackpad is a little glitchy. I've been considering selling the MBP and getting a cheaper 13" when the ARM models come out. I'm hoping it may be pretty even in price too. I have an AMD hackintosh I use as my main computer, so the MBP is really just for when I leave the house. I don't need tons of power. What do you think? Use iMac 2009 as a monitor Posted: 29 Aug 2020 04:50 PM PDT Hi, I need help using an iMac 2009 as a second Monitor for my MacBook Pro 2017. I bought a cable Mini DisplayPost to HDMI and a convertor from HDMI to usb-c (for the MacBook Pro) but when I connect them nothing happen. On the support with Apple (on an unrelated subject) I asked if this cable would work and the Apple principal asesor (hesitated) but said it should work. That cable costed me around $15usd (and I already had the convertor to usb-c), the alternative was a thunderbolt to thunderbolt and a convertor thunderbolt to usb-c (or something like that) and it was over $100usd. The most recent supplemental update for MacBooks (forget the specific title of the update) won't go through on my computer—I click update, the computer goes to the update screen, restarts, but when I log back in, the update is still there. Screen suddenly inverted color palette and started flickering Posted: 29 Aug 2020 04:32 PM PDT My iPad air 2 was charging and out of nowhere I noticed that the screen suddenly inverted the color palette, to some degree, and even flickered a few times. This is clearly indicative of some sort of hardware failure. I figure this is caused by either the fact that there is a tiny little frayed part of the charging cable, or the fact that I took it out earlier today and it was jostled around in my bag (while inside a Logitech canvas 2).
