iPad Paperlike is not shit - this is a positive post so obviously it's not going to go viral; but this is what 4 months of heavy use look like, the surface is grainy as intended, and just as grainy as it was when it was new. If yours is "bad" make sure you took off the plastic protecting film.

Apple still needs to make fundamental changes to iPadOS to be more mature

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 12:02 PM PDT

    And changes in general...

    • iPadOS can only handle one playback, which would pause any other media playing. Twitter and Reddit had bugs where muted videos would also pause your music / audio playback. Sometimes you just wanna preview a video with sound without having to pause your music. And the transition to switch media playback (fading) is slow.
    • iPadOS audio playback shouldn't be constrained to one app. If you exit out of a video in Safari, sometimes the playback will stop, unlike a Mac. Playback shouldn't stop as well in third-party apps, don't give developers this control.
    • Standardize keyboard shortcuts between iPadOS and macOS. Command Q should quit apps.
    • Add more keyboard shortcuts, such as entering PiP
    • Get rid of the auto-hiding toolbar for Safari, it's pointless cuz the displays are so big, and makes it less efficient for you to switch tabs using the keyboard if you don't even know where the tabs are. It also shifts your entire webpage down and provides barely any more screen real estate.
    • Get rid of the 'Open in _____' in Safari, it also shifts your content down, have it hidden in the share button.
    • Get rid of the delay when using a cursor. If you try to click away using a cursor, it takes awhile for the action to register because of the animation and a forced delay, it makes things slower.
    • Allow a better way to bring apps into split view multitasking from the home screen instead of only the dock and Spotlight.
    • Bring windowed iPhone apps to iPadOS. Allow a person to create a blank desktop/canvas space in the app switcher where you can drag apps into it as iPhone apps.
    • Right click on the top pull tab for multitasking apps to show options to close, and transform into slide over.
    • Slideover apps are way too tall. Make it slightly shorter so that it doesn't block the buttons behind it.
    • Have slideover apps function like the iPhone's multitasking. Currently, a swipe up from the slideover's home bar opens the slideover's app switcher. A swipe up should close the slideover app like it does on iPhone and iPad. Swipe up and hold should open the slideover app switcher.
    • Allow thumbnails to be shown in Files' servers.
    • Make Files more complex. The point is to access and manage files. So don't hide sort options, new folder button, view options underneath the search bar. The search bar is unnecessarily long, make it the size of Finder's and put those buttons on the left side of search bar.
    • The file thumbnails are childishly big, make it 5x5 or 6x6, you'll be scrolling way less and you'll see more content.
    • Add QuickTime player to iPadOS. Now that there's a file manager, let me open those files in a QuickTime player. The preview player isn't enough, it can not do PiP, access subtitle or audio tracks, can't skip forward with keyboard commands, etc.
    • Allow us to choose what apps the file opens to via Get Info.
    • Show the headphone battery level underneath the status bar of Control Center
    • Let us move content between cloud drives, hard drives, and local storage instead of copying them, especially when we tap on the 'move' button. Let us hold the command key to move the file instead of copying too.
    • Add battery health to iPad
    • Show us what app is currently in use with side-by-side apps. The pull tabs used to flash in the iOS betas, but was removed in the public version.
    • Add Disk Utility to iPad so we can format our drives, not have us dependant on a computer still.
    • Add encrypted external drive support, this should've been added in 13.X update...
    • Option to keep folders on top in Files
    • Home folder in On My iPad with custom folder icons

Paperlike 2 is a complete waste of money.

Paperlike 2 is a complete waste of money.

PSA Paperlike 2 is terrible. Only been using it for ~ 2 months. all the texture is gone. scratches everywhere. Using only my hands, zero pencil use.

Is anyone going to make a "wireless" charging dock?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 04:00 PM PDT

I would LOVE a dock, just like the back of the magic keyboard, that could just pop your iPad pro onto and have it charge via the smart connector. Would be so convenient for night storage/quick charging. No keyboard or trackpad- think more like the Apple Watch "docks" that just charge.

Would have to be priced 70 or less to be worth it...but I can dream.

Would anyone else use/buy something like that?

    Google Docs App or Website?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 03:30 PM PDT

Is the google docs web app still far superior to the iOS app? If it is, do I need to delete the iOS app to stop the website from wanting to pop me out?

I just wish Word would update to make the trackpad more usable.

    iPad Pro 12.9

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 01:48 PM PDT

Been a week now since I got my iPad Pro 12.9 2020, i think I might have gotten too much of an iPad (screen wise). I'm an average user, I just use it for social media and multitasking. Do any of you guys regret getting the bigger iPad version?

Magic Keyboard stops working randomy at times

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 09:45 AM PDT

    Hi,

I've been loving the magic keyboard so far. But at times I am not able to type. This happens very often when I open and run Facebook Messenger, but often also in other apps.

Restarting the iPad always fixes it though. Does anyone else have this issue?

Note-taking app for typing and handwriting

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 03:03 PM PDT

Apologies in advance if this has been asked and answered but I haven't seen the answer yet. I'm looking for an app for taking notes which mix typing and writing by hand using the pencil. The context is I'll be using this app for taking notes for computer science courses, where I like to mix standard notes, code blocks, and hand-drawn diagrams.

Many apps seem to be geared towards using the pencil, but I have yet to find a suitable app mixing both. Bear notes was close but missing some key features (e.g. code blocks). TIA!

Ipad Pro for college - productivity apps

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 06:42 AM PDT

Hi, Guys. I am a first year Electrical Engineering Student, have never had an apple device (not even held one) and have just bought the IPad Pro 12.9 2020(it's supposed to arrive today. I am very anxious.)

Main (almost only) use: Note taking, calender, assignments, PDF annotations and etc...(so, only college stuff).

I wonder which apps I should have. I have done a lot of research already and: I will use a paperlike screen protector(I write a loooooot), I'll go for Noteshelf, for note taking and PDF Expert for the PDF stuff.

Which other productivity apps do you guys use? Name with a small description? Thanks.

    My iPad Imagination Station

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 10:02 PM PDT

My iPad Pro easily dies in under 5-10 minutes. It also dies at 20-50% sometimes. It’s a [iPad Pro (9.7-inch)] got it near 2017

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 04:10 PM PDT

Does it need a battery replacement? I always have to use it while charging and it still sometimes dies.

Anybody else longing for a thinkpad like keyboard case with trackpoint?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 12:12 PM PDT

As in the title. I would love to have a thinkpad like keyboard on an ipad case, where I can use the trackpoint as a mouse. That would be such a good experience comparing to the usual touchpads - which I hate.

Anybody else on the same bus? Maybe there is a way to do it?

Waterfield Designs iPad Pro SleeveCase + Magic Keyboard Folio... IT FITS!!!!

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 01:10 PM PDT

So I got my Magic Keyboard Folio with Trackpad today, for my 2018 12.9" iPad Pro. I was very excited, and sure enough, I'm really enjoying it so far!

However, one thing I was concerned about was the thickness of this new accessory, and how it would interact with the SleeveCase from Waterfield Designs (https://www.sfbags.com/products/ipad-sleevecase). Of course, their current page says that the Magic Keyboard fits with their current offering, but I got my SleeveCase back when I got this iPad... so, it's been a minute.

Well, much to my delight, the new Magic Keyboard Folio fits perfectly fine into my SleeveCase. :) Thus, I can't recommend both of these products enough! If you're looking for a little extra protection for your iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard Folio, check this one out!!!!!

    PDF Textbook Organizer/Annotations

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 10:22 AM PDT

    Hi y'all!
A lot of my professors have been posting their full textbook for free to download if they're the authors, and with COVID-19 a lot of universities and publishers have been making PDFs of their textbooks free to download as well. This is all fine and dandy, except I've been having a lot of trouble keeping all of this organized and easy-to-read. Opening stuff straight from files is just unwieldy.

It'd be nice to have an app that allows me to import my own PDFs and organize them as I see fit, while also having handy features like the Kindle app, such as bookmarking and highlighting.

My research into this so far has led to me finding a lot of apps that do about 20% of one of those things right, but it'd be nice to have it all.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm willing to pay a decent amount for something so long as it does everything I need it to.

    Hand Drawn Note Disappears?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 07:02 PM PDT

I had been working on an assignment for a class using the Apple Pencil and the notes app on my iPad. After a few hours of work, a completely different note from my account appears and I cannot find the note I'd been working on anywhere. I had just finished up an assignment that took a few hours and I really hope it's not gone. Nothing was in my recently deleted after this happened, and I cannot find it by searching the title. Has anyone has this experience?

iPad Air 2019 (10.5") Pressure Distortion

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 06:59 PM PDT

Has anybody else noticed or had the same problem with their iPad air 10.5? I notice that whenever I write with the Apple Pencil or even while using it normally with my finger, the screen sort of warps down under the pressure point (even if it's slight pressure). Not sure if it's just my unit, or just how the model is in general. Makes me feel like I have to be super gentle with the screen or I'll damage it, and very cheap manufacturing.
