Failed MBP 16 at Genius Bar

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 12:21 PM PST

Has anyone ever experienced an issue where bottom rows of pixels turn black/red/green on a MBP? The issue gets progressively worse the longer the display is on and goes away after the display is off for an hour or so.

How to safely clean the display on MBP 16?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 08:42 PM PST

I keep getting dust particles and sometimes eye lashes on my screen and I don't like to touch it because it usually leaves a residue mark. What is the safest way to clean the MacBook Pro 16inch display without leaving any residue and peeling off the anti reflecting coat (don't know if this still has it).? thanks

Macbook Pro 2016 vs Macbook Air 2019

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 10:37 PM PST

Hello everyone, I'm a college student and decide to buy a new laptop that i'll use for editing photos, basic video editing, basic programming, and browsing. I planned that i'm going to buy the brand new macbook air 2019 128gb but i find out that it has the exact same price for 2nd 2016 macbook pro touchbar 256gb. So what do you think is the most worth it? The pro or air?

Have used a Macbook Air 13-inch since 2016, and now need to upgrade. All of my Macbook Airs pre-touch-bar and retina display have worked perfectly for my graphic design work, so I'm happy to buy something similar. BUT, which mac is the best but not the most expensive option for designers?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 08:32 PM PST

side note: I am happy to pay more if it is well worth it. But the main aim of this post is to figure out which of the more reasonable macbooks [air or pro] are best for full time designers. If you feel that the more expensive macs are worth the extra money, pitch your argument and you may just win me over!

I am a third year student studying an online BA Hons graphic design degree, so I use my laptop [currently a macbook air circa 2016/2017] everyday. I have saved up for a new mac because my current one's battery needs a service that costs just over half the price of a new mac. I am ideally looking for the best option for designers, but would prefer to go for the best and least expensive option. Any recommendations appreciated greatly [have spent a month being unsure of which mac to go for]

only about the firth 25% of the screen is knocked out, so i was wondering if it would be worth spending the money or if i should just get a refurbished laptop (lke a 2016 macbook pro or something of the sort)

Question about Safari motivations on my MacBook.

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 12:09 PM PST

I just got my first macbook, and I'm still getting used to it. I've figured out notifications for the control center, for the most part. What I can't figure out is, how to I add a website to accept notifications from? I've figured out how to deny websites, and I can see websites that notifications are allowed for, but I can't figure out how to add a website.

What happened was, I was using chrome until I realized safari seems to be better optimized and draws less battery. I went to Facebook.com and must have hit deny notifications by mistake. Now when I go to the website, it doesn't prompt to allow notifications anymore. Any way to undo do it?

    Mid 2012 MacBook Pro

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 07:24 AM PST

So I recently purchased a prepared MacBook Pro mid 2012 with less than 500 cycle counts on the battery.

It has. 500gb hdd and it had 4GB ram. I attempted to upgrade the hdd to a SSD and I successfully upgraded the ram to 8gb.

When I tried to install The is on the new hdd it told me there were no packages available and it would not complete the install. Any suggestions?

Tips for changing battery in Mid-2012 MacBook Pro

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 08:36 AM PST

I just replaced the battery on my wife's Mid-2012 Mac. It started off as what I thought would be a simple replacement. It was anything but that. One of the harder fixes I've done. Harder than replacing a motherboard. Harder than replacing a laptop display. And definitely harder than memory or hard drive replacement.

Aside of finding and buying pentalobe screwdrivers, Apple glues the battery to the chassis. I found people online using an adhesive remover to help remove the battery, but I was too scared to use it in fear that I would damage other components inside of the laptop. Instead, I opted for using a credit card style card from iFixit at my local Micro Center and it worked well. I had to use a little force to shimmy it under the battery, but it slid under and detached all six cells.

I wanted to share in case anybody else is trying to replace the battery on this particular model of MacBook.

Irony: Apple spell-check doesn't recognize the word pentalobe.

I did run into a problem along the way with one of the pentalobe screws inside of the MacBook that was stripped. I ended up using a flat head small, super small screwdriver that was able to ultimately unscrew that screw.

2017 MacBook Pro vs 2019 MacBook Air.

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 08:51 AM PST

I'm thinking of making the switch from Windows but I don't know which MacBook would be best for me!

I've been looking at getting the 2017 MacBook Pro 13.3" Notebook (£900) because the 2019 model is a little more than I want to spend on a laptop right now. A friend of mine uses a much older MacBook and says it still runs great so I have no issues with buying an older model.

I'm just wondering if it would be more beneficial to get the 2019 13" MacBook Air as it priced similarly (£945) and has the benefit of being a newer model.

I wouldn't be using either for particularly demanding tasks, one thing it will be required for a lot is watching films! I would like it to run as quickly as possible for as long as possible though because the laptop I currently have takes about 3 working days to load anything.

Any help with this would be great as I'm not familiar with MacBooks.

    Performance issues.............. on my macbook.

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 04:06 AM PST

So I'm using the Mid 2015, 15" macbook pro with a 256GB SSD and i do graphic design on a daily basis. First time a client asked me to make instagram posts with video animation and that's when the mac slowed down like crazy. I tried rendering some basic animation (like making images move and stuff) in Photoshop CC 2019 and I couldn't even see the spinning beach ball Photoshop just all out froze and i found myself force quitting a lot. :( Tried to do the animation on After Effects and i just face palmed so hard because it was even slower. Help I don't know if i should upgrade the SSD because i keep getting an error message on PS saying "Scratch Disks are full" or just all out get a new one. I googled some troubleshooting when a mac slows down but nothing seems to work so I was wondering maybe anyone here would help with my performance issues?

Buying a new macbook pro advice needed.

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 06:51 AM PST

    Hey everyone.

I currently have a Macbook Pro 13 inch late 2013.

    2.6GHz Inter Core i5

    8GB 1600 MHz DDR3

    5OOGB of storage.

It's on it's last legs and I need a macbook pro replacement.

I don't know much about these things. I use my Macbook pro mainly for internet, downloading stuff from both net and my portable hard drive and watching a lot of video files (films, tv shows, tennis matches) through a HDMI cable on my large 4K TV. Some of these files are quite big and high quality though.

    I'm thinking of upgrading to

    • 1.4GHz quad-core 8th-generation Intel Core i5 processor
    • Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz
    • Intel Iris Plus Graphics 645
    • 8GB 2133MHz LPDDR3 memory
    • 256GB SSD storage¹

I just wondered if people could answer these three questions i have.

    1. How would this new Macbook Pro compare in performance to my old Macbook. Better or worse? Is the processor faster?
    2. Is this massive overkill? Should i get a cheaper Macbook or Mac Air for what i use this for.
    3. If so what model would you suggest?

Oh and is it ever possible to ever play 4k video files on your macbook pro through HDMI onto a 4k TV? I've tried with my current macbook but the video file always stutters and is unwatchable.

Thanks so much for your help.

    MacBook Pro(Late 2013) SSD upgrade?

    MacBook Pro(Late 2013) SSD upgrade?

Hi guys. So my MacBook Pro(Late 2013) is showing signs of S.M.A.R.T status as Failing. I am planning to upgrade to a Samsung 500GB SSD. Will this be compatible with my MacBook Pro(Late 2013)?

    https://www.amazon.in/Kingston-Internal-2000MB-SA2000M8-500G/dp/B07VXCFNVS/ref=pd_sbs_147_2/260-7181659-0814116?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B07VXCFNVS&pd_rd_r=b52e6814-ebd2-4dd7-b751-28989925cc81&pd_rd_w=Dnwsw&pd_rd_wg=P8w8U&pf_rd_p=fbf43daf-8fb3-47b5-9deb-ae9cce3969a9&pf_rd_r=7SVP7FGJ5JXJXM3FH47W&psc=1&refRID=7SVP7FGJ5JXJXM3FH47W

Kindly suggest any budget type SSD since the apple ones are really expensive for a MacBook this old.

The only reason I am not upgrading to a newer model is because of the extra I/O ports which are available in this model and not the newer ones.

PRAM reset without working onboard keyboard

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 05:38 AM PST

I have a MacBook Pro, but it is already opened up and changed a view times by the one from which I got it. The screen recently turned black after I turned it on. I don't know the reason, but I wanted to try to do the PRAM reset, but my onboard keyboard isn't working for a long time, the keyboard is showing response but the laptop is not reacting on any button, only the caps.

So the problem, how to reset the PRAM without an onboard keyboard?

(New keyboard doesn't help prob a software issue)

    16" MBP Configuration Advice?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 12:18 AM PST

Hi guys, I'm about to buy the 16" and I'm on the fence between the following two configs:

    - 2.6ghz i7 + 32gb + 5500M 8gb + 1tb SSD
    - 2.3ghz i9 + 32gb + 5500M 4gb + 1tb SSD

I'm a professional graphic designer and photographer, therefore I use most of the adobe apps quite heavily. Music production is my spare time thing and I occasionally find myself pushing Logic Pro X, but I'm also thinking of starting on the side some 3D rendering for static graphics and possibly small animations with After Effects. Which of these configurations would you say is going to be more future proof and/or best suited to my usage? Thanks!
