Would be nice if Apple let us choose workout days for the activity app so we could set more realistic goals for specific days

    Posted: 05 Apr 2019 05:09 AM PDT

For instance I would choose 4 days in a week during which I hit the gym. For these days I would set my exercise and move goals a lot higher. And vice versa for the resting days. I don't like to be reminded to close my rings at 11:30 pm when I'm supposed to relax. Instead it should let me set lower activity goals for the less active week days.

Apple Watch Series 4 Review coming from Nike S3

    Posted: 05 Apr 2019 05:05 AM PDT

So I know I am late being mid-cycle but I caught a deal from Best Buy Open Box for a 44mm Aluminum Space Gray for $330 through a buddy that worked there.

I sold my Nike S3 on Swappa for $200 so a $130 upgrade was a no brainer.

    Now on to the watch

    (1) Design - Man is this so much better then the beefcake that is the S3. It feels like they took the S3 and smashed it down, its thinner, taller and wider. But the way it sits on your wrist is very "watch-like". The bigger screen is awesome for viewing messages, and emails, as well as apps. They did a nice job here with screen size. Dumb thing that I love is the haptic feedback on the crown, this is such a little thing and totally doesn't justify upgrading but I really do love this, the feedback is subtle but again makes the device to me seem more "watch-like".

    (2) Watch Face - Before I had the Nike Watch Faces which were nice, I really liked the design of them but one thing that drove me nuts was lack of complication space. Both Digital and Analog only allowed 3 complications, because one was always being taken for the Nike Complication. At first I was like that is fine it is a Nike Watch, but later on this became an issue with not only accidental runs of the Nike Run Club, but I wanted more complications on a watch face that I enjoyed.

The Infograph Analog is awesome, and for some I understand if its a little much, but it is a smart watch I kinda want much! I have a very nice analog mechanical watch that I wear for special events, the apple watch in my opinion is tough to sell as dress watch, so in the end I want a every day watch to have all the complications it can have on one screen, and the Infograph delivers. I also like the full screen color for weekends with colorful bands, the gimmicky fire, water, and metal faces are a nice touch if you don't want any complications.

    (3) Speed - Here I thought the S3 was fast, this thing is crazy fast as the first 64 bit CPU in the Apple Watch this thing shows its power. The UI is like butter and the app loading is mostly instant with a couple still taking a small amount of time, but most are instant. Siri with the waveform!!!!! responds quickly, I have yet to see I'll tap you when I'm ready which I always hated! Going through long emails there is no hesitation, everything about this device screams speed, and I really didn't think S3 was slow. If your coming from any previous Apple Watch this thing is gonna feel like a Ferrari.

    (4) Health - ECG and the improved heart monitoring is a big deal, after showing my wife and aunt who are medical nurses, one is on the cardio floor. They were blown away that a device this small and honestly cheap in the medical industry could do a 1-lead ECG. Now of course most ECG are 12 leads, but being able to detect a problem from your own watch when your not feeling well IMO is a game changer!

Overall if you have an S3 you can hold out till the S5, but if you catch a deal..... It's so worth it!!!!! S2 and below I have no idea what your waiting for unless its money. This thing is probably the best Apple Product of Late 2018 into 2019.

    Question for Stocard users

    Posted: 05 Apr 2019 06:36 AM PDT

I am using this on a series 4.

When I turn my watch to face the scanner it turns off the watch display. If I turn it back to me (it turns on) then back to the scanner it flips the display and stays on.

Is this how it works? Is there an action I am missing to keep the display on (without this extra back and forth movement

There seems to be something working with a hard press of the barcode before turning it to face the scanner - but it is not working 100% of the time

Health app needing a reset after someone else uses the watch?

    Posted: 05 Apr 2019 08:05 AM PDT

My girlfriend told me not to do it, and i did it. Does she really need to reset her entire watch after i wore it for under an hour?

    Novelty wearing off

    Posted: 05 Apr 2019 07:29 AM PDT

Anybody feeling the novelty of the watch is wearing off? I got the S4 when it came out and it was awesome to see texts, emails, etc. on my wrist. I always have my phone on me so when I feel my wrist vibrate, or tap, I just take my phone out of my pocket and check. The best feature in my opinion is the "pinging" of my iPhone and the fact that it's a watch and tells time.

    Anybody else feeling this way?

Edit: the fitness features are really cool but I'm not much of a gym goer. Anybody feel the watch is best suited for somebody into fitness?

    Pollen Tracker Complication?

    Posted: 04 Apr 2019 05:55 PM PDT

Is there any apps that offer a pollen tracker complication? I know of Air Matters and used it until it automatically switched back to AQI and I can't get it back to show pollen for some reason...

Using Bar Code as an alternate Watch face

    Posted: 04 Apr 2019 09:01 AM PDT

Anyone else do this? Basically I have my standard watch face and then when I go to the card reader at my gym, I swipe right to left on my watch face to bring up my bar code watch face. It scans fine and I proceed on my way.

FYI, taking a picture of the bar code on my card and creating a watch face from that didn't work for me. What did work is using one of those apps like Stocard to generate the high contrast image of your bar code, and then take a screenshot of that, cropped and labeled, then create a watch face from that.
    Just wanted to share.

Those with an Apple Watch and also a fan of classic watches, what do you do?

    Posted: 04 Apr 2019 07:09 PM PDT

I currently have a Nike S4 AW that I've been daily wearing for a while. I've got a collection of classic watches at home that I really miss wearing each day..

As it stands, I just love using my watch for fitness tracking and basically nothing else.. I feel like I'm really not utilising its capabilities as a smart watch, I've tried to engage with it and look at apps and other ways of using the watch but I just stopped doing so as it was easier to pull out my phone and Siri never responds to me the way I want it too either.

Looking at Fitbits new Inspire HR, I was thinking of using that on my right hand and a regular watch on my left hand but I'm not sure if that would look weird.

    What do you all do?

TLDR: I have an AW but I Like wearing classic watches, thoughts?

    How to disable IPhone GPS?

    Posted: 04 Apr 2019 10:34 PM PDT

Hi, I noticed that my AW4 GPS was way more accurate than my iPhone 7 GPS during running activities. Thus I end up having my iPhone in airplane mode while running (having a phone can be mandatory on some trails as a security equipment). Is there another way to force the use of AW GPS over iPhone GPS so that I could have music and notifications from my iPhone while running ? Thanks

    Move Ring

    Posted: 04 Apr 2019 04:58 PM PDT

Ok. I'm a man in my 40s. I bought a watch about 2 months ago. Didn't set my weight or calibrate it and the watch set my move goal to about 620. This was damn near impossibile to meet. I had to walk at least 4 or 5 miles a day to get it. I added my weight 250 and calibrated it. Now I'm blasting 1000 every day with taking around 10-12k steps a day. Does this seem right? I feel like it went from way to hard to say too easy.

Is there any way to have your watch notify you when you get out of range of your phone?

    Posted: 04 Apr 2019 06:28 PM PDT

Is there a way that your watch can let you know that you just got out of range of your device? I'm an idiot who frequently leaves their phone places and doesn't realize until it's too late.

    Challenges App question

    Posted: 04 Apr 2019 11:37 PM PDT

Hi we're doing the April close your Rings Challenge (On the ChallengesApp) & we're hitting max points everyday. But one of our team members has only got 106 instead of 110.

We all understand the points system as we have participated many times before. 3x Move Goal, 3x Exercise & 14 stand hours getting maximum points including points for the Team.

This is starting to get annoying as the points loss may only be 4 per day. They will add up. Out of 4 days two he has got 110 & two 106.

I've contacted support with no response in 2 days. So my idea to solve or at least try to is to get him to leave our Team (Which is private). Delete the App & restart the iPhone & watch then reinstall the App, sign in & rejoin the Team forcing a true resync of health data potentially fixing the issue.

(He has tried many times to use the option to resync the data in the App) Which doesn't fix it.

My assumption is that even though he is joining 4/5 days into the Competition it will pull his data in from the competition start date (1st of April). Is this correct?

    Give us scribble to Siri!

    Posted: 04 Apr 2019 11:02 PM PDT

Imagine being able to scribble reminders, calendar appointments, etc. by scribbling to Siri while on the bus or train, instead of having to talk to your watch. Especially useful when you leave your phone at home or in your bag.

    Autosleep or pillow sleep tracker?

    Posted: 04 Apr 2019 07:02 PM PDT

Has anyone tried autosleep and pillow for long enough to be able to recommend one over the other? If autosleep is that much better I'm willing to pay, but I'm not sure which one to get, thanks!
