Is the Apple ID and the Mac user account seperate? Posted: 22 Jun 2018 06:16 PM PDT I got a new Mac, and during setup I signed in with my iCloud account. But the computer user account doesn't use the same profile picture as my iCloud account. The user account instead uses a random default picture. Are they supposed to be separate accounts? Want to swap computers, am I shooting myself in the foot? Posted: 22 Jun 2018 05:38 PM PDT I'm certain there are answers on google and I will be looking there immediately following, but I do have to wait for your answers and I'm certain my position could use an extra bit of your help. I used to be good with computers, but ignoring them for the past nearly ten years has been enough for me to now know next to nothing. As the title says, I'm wanting to switch computers with my mother. My projects have ahem amplified, and my poor computer can barely keep up any longer. She lives in California and I live in Tennessee so we would be shipping. She needs to keep ALL of her files and so do I. I need to be up and running immediately. She does not. As I understand it, she has life files on her computer. Documents, passwords, memories, contracts, etc. I record music and conduct business on my computer and backup most of my files on an external hard drive already. I have a Mac mini that came with a recording home studio start up that I bought when my PC gave me the blue screen of death and I thought I lost my life's work. Of course, unbeknownst to me at the time, Mac mini's now come with the new exciting feature of NON UPGRADEABLE RAM. Who's stupid fucking idea was that shit? I didn't even consider checking if I could upgrade it, I just assumed. Anyways, I'm running macOS High Sierra 10.13, Late 2014 model, 1.4 GHz i5, 4GB 1600 MHz, 1536MB graphics card. My mother has an iMac running Yosemite 10.10.1, 2.7 GHz i5, 4GB 1333 MHz, 512 MB graphics card. I don't know much more about it than that. I just screenshotted the overview about a month ago when I was there. And the ram is completely upgradeable with extra spots open as well. Is this a good idea? I need to run logic and other music related software. Can my mother's computer help me if I upgrade the ram? What is the best way to exchange files? The programs must be reinstalled on the other computer and I need everything to take as little time as possible. I can't be installing programs for a month trying to find them all, is better organization possible? Should I only exchange files? Is it easier to wipe one or the other? I have no idea. I spent my life on PCs before I decided it was too much work to keep up with computers so everything is new to me on Macs. I don't know what I should do about the differing operating systems? Does the graphics card difference matter? I don't play games or watch videos just audio stuff. I can have her send her computer to me and can have both computers simultaneously if this helps in any way whatsoever. In fact, it would be much easier to do it for her instead of instructing her how to save all her own files. And would save me some money if I didn't have to buy her an external hardrive and could just move it over. Any other information, tips, or other help would be greatly appreciated! I am off to do my own research which I assume will inevitably lead to more questions. I'm sure you all know, the ultimate goal here is to save money. Otherwise I'd just buy a new computer. Recharged for previously purchased apps Posted: 22 Jun 2018 10:16 PM PDT I haven't had an apple product since the iPhone 3GS. Just purchased an iPad 6th Gen and used my old Apple ID to log in. I went to download a couple free apps (Google Maps, Spotify, Uber) and I had to input my credit card. No big deal. I turn off the ipad go to work, and notice a $32 charge from iTunes around 8:30. At 11:45 I got an email with a receipt. I was re-charged for apps i bought over 10 years ago on my first generation ipod touch i got when i was 13. Is this normal? I don't want any of them. I don't know why they were repurchased again. I figured there was a setting that redownloaded all of the apps I previously had, but I don't understand why I would have to rebuy the apps I had or why apple would just do it without my consent. Will they give me my money back? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 22 Jun 2018 10:16 PM PDT Hello! My 4 year-old Macbook Pro (mid 2012) is currently having an erratic Trackpad. Like it stops working for a few seconds, then it works okay. Then a few seconds later, it won't scroll a page down or the double tap feature won't work. The odd thing is that it fixes itself after continued use of the laptop without changing any settings. As if it won't work properly until the device is already warmed up. [link] [comments] |

Accidentally deleted administrator or new Macbook Pro Posted: 22 Jun 2018 02:15 PM PDT Hello, So I recently got the Macbook Pro 15 in, and I was transferring data over migration assistant from my old laptop when the connection interrupted. Even though the connection was interrupted, it created a user profile on my new macbook. I then ran migration assistant again which ran to completion, but I deleted the first account created, which was the administrator. Now when I want to change something in system preference, I have no admin password to change anything. I was planning on going to the apple store for a system wipe and start over from scratch with one original migration assistant, but I was wondering if there was anything I can do to troubleshoot this problem first. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Corrupted icons in a dock stack? Posted: 22 Jun 2018 09:42 PM PDT So I recently re-installed MacOS 10.13.5 on my mid 2010 macbook pro 15". 2.8ghz i7, nvidia 330m, 8gb of ram, and a 1tb hdd. All of a sudden my downloads folder in the dock looks like this. I have no clue why, and can't seem to find any information on the problem. I've tried removing if from the dock and adding it back, but it does the same thing. even with other folders. Everything is fine if I open up Finder though. I'm at a complete loss for what may be wrong. thanks for any help! I'd like to get this resolved. [link] [comments] |

Mac Partition Deleted but Space Not Available Posted: 22 Jun 2018 09:00 PM PDT So I think I've fucked up. Last night I was trying to install Windows 10 using Boot Camp. I downloaded the ISO, started Boot Camp, and began installing Windows. While I was setting up Windows, I got to the screen to select the partition that you want to install Windows to, and it gave an error. I can't remember exactly what it said but it was something along the lines of a partition cannot be found or created. I looked it up and got to this apple support page: https://support.apple.com/en-us/ht203738 That article says that Windows does this when it sees an external drive connected, which I did have. So I cancelled the install and rebooted my Mac, after unplugging my external drive. I'm back in OS X, and open Boot Camp up again to re start the process. But now, the only option is restore; delete the partition and windows from the computer. So I started that, and it was just stuck at "Partitioning Disk" for over an hour. So I quit Boot Camp while this process was still going. I think that fucked things up, and I should have been more patient. Anyways, I open disk utility to just manually delete the partition. I click the minus button after selecting the BOOT CAMP partition, and it throws an error, and create another partition with a weird name, something like disk_06 or something. It was not the exact name but something similar, and it also renamed the BOOT CAMP partition to something similar. So after that I selected both partitions, and then the little minus button, and now both of the partitions are gone. But the thing is, it did not give me the space back. I had allocated 100gb for Windows, and even though it does not have the partitions listed anymore, I still do not have that space back. Does anyone know what is going on and how I can get that 100gb back? Cause at the end of the day I'm gonna have to still install Windows, and would prefer to have not lost 200gb., 100gb of which for nothing. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Macbook air KB and mouse not working in OSX Posted: 22 Jun 2018 08:56 PM PDT ok so here's the full breakdown. I have a Macbook Air. Keyboard and mouse do not work in the OS or in recovery. The mouse does work if I boot to diagnostic and when I boot internet recovery I can use the KB and mouse to select and punch in the password to my wifi. I've tried SMC and R Ram resets, OS reload from internet recovery and voodoo (jk). Mac Air breakdown Early 2015 13" 1.6 GHz i5 8GB Ram High Sierra Anyone got any idea's? Edit: Fun fact, I just installed windows 10 via bootcamp and KB and mouse work just fine there [link] [comments] |
After leaving a laptop in a hot car in sleep mode, which hardware component is most likely to fail? Posted: 22 Jun 2018 08:36 PM PDT I have MacBook Pro 13-inch, Mid 2012 Processor I left my laptop on sleep mode in a hot car from 8:00AM to 12:00PM. When I was using the laptop it burned to touch it. Instead of turning it off, I foolishly finished an email. I kept it on the rest of the day. A week later, I was watching Netflix and my laptop suddenly turned black. After 3 minutes, my laptop started working again. Then that happened again. But my laptop hadn't crashed yet. Today, my laptop crashed after having both Android Studio and IntelliJ open. This is what the problem report read Panic(CPU 3): NMIPI for spinlock acquisition timeout I followed the instructions from apple's support website and after an 90 minutes of "Performed Extended Testing" I was told I have no hardware problems. tl;dr After running the "Performed Extended Testing" and being told I have no hardware problems, what is the most likely situation that is crashing my computer after leaving it in a hot car on sleep mode for 4 hours? Do Mac Desktops Have An Ethernet Port? Posted: 22 Jun 2018 02:37 PM PDT Do all mac desktops have an Ethernet port? Late-2009 iMac has unexpected fan speed increase for CPU. Need help. Posted: 22 Jun 2018 04:40 PM PDT I don't know if I'll get any answers here but I may as well post because why not. For anyone wondering, I have a Late-2009 21.5" iMac with the following specs. Processor: 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Memory: 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3 Mac OS X: High Sierra 10.13.5 Normally I don't have an issue like this but I have had this iMac for almost 9 years and I'm at the point where I'm either going to get it repaired somehow or completely replaced. Thing is, I'm having a bit of problems with the unexpected CPU speed increase. I don't have that many programs running, just a few: Dropbox, MalwareBytes, Microsoft Word, Discord and Google Chrome. When I use Google Chrome, for some reason the CPU fan temperature jumps up considerably. At the highest, depending on smcFanControl setting, it can reach quite high at 3100-3300 rpm. When that happens, I mostly either minimize or close Google Chrome until temperatures return to normal. When that happens, I resume but I mostly check out websites that don't cause the CPU load to chug. The ODD and HDD are at acceptable levels like with HDD reaching upwards to 1800 rpm. I even did Disk Checks and the HDD is healthy. As for the ODD, it's at normal levels. I don't know what to do. I've had this thing for so long and I never bothered to upgrade it aka add more ram, change HDD, etc. I want to get a new iMac but it's expensive as heck and saving up for money can take a long time. So I seek help from anyone here on this reddit. I need to know what I should do... if I have to shell out money to maybe get it repaired, I will. I'll just pretty much reduce my use of Chrome to a minimum. Thank you very much for your time. Sincerely, DestinyDecade [link] [comments] |
Best Apple laptop for new college student who uses Logic to make music Posted: 22 Jun 2018 11:44 AM PDT Hey guys, my niece is graduating from high school and is going to nursing school in the fall. She is also into making music and my mother would like to buy her a MacBook of some sort as a graduation present. I am told she uses Logic to make her music. What is the laptop you would buy for someone like this? I could imagine it being anything from a $1200 MacBook up to a $2700 15" MacBook Pro. I'd like to not have my mom spend more money than she needs to, but she would like to get her granddaughter something that's going to meet all her needs. [link] [comments] |
Should I retire my iPad Air and use 5th gen iPad? Posted: 22 Jun 2018 03:27 PM PDT Without going into the details it might be obvious to go with newer iPad. I got it as a gift and haven't opened the box yet. iPad Air is already sufficient for my uses so I thought whether it would be better to sell the other iPad. Is there any significant differences? So far it seems only difference that matters to me is to be able to watch x265 10-bit videos on the newer iPad. What is your opinion on this? [link] [comments] |
Anyone have cosmetic problem with MacBook Pro 2016-2017 Posted: 22 Jun 2018 11:41 AM PDT Hey so I noticed this line along the side of the MacBook, it is only on the right side and not the left I will show a picture. It looks like a white-sliver line about 5 cm in length. I keep he computer very clean and was wondering if anyone else had this issue. Thanks for the help [link] [comments] |
How can a I keep all my photos and the data from one app on my Iphone 6s and then restart it? Posted: 22 Jun 2018 03:07 PM PDT I have a hand-me-down Iphone 6s with my dad's information on it. It also has much of its storage used up for applications that I don't use. What I would like to do is keep all my photos and the data for snapchat(I do streaks on it and don't want to lose them for those wondering) and then be able to restart the phone. Then I want to create my own apple account to add my own phone number and contacts. After that I would like to add back my photos and and snapchat to the phone with nothing lost. How can I do this? Posted: 22 Jun 2018 11:32 AM PDT Hello! I have a question and this was one of the free places to turn.. anyways, either when or after i connect or disconnect from wifi, my phone has a pop up that asks me to sign in. However, there's no indication to what it wants me to sign into, so I decline. I asked a friend, who said it's probably an icloud thing, but I don't use icloud. I have attached a picture of said problem here via imgur [link] [comments] |
Posted: 22 Jun 2018 11:27 AM PDT I dropped my phone in a glass of water yesterday and the screen just looks off. In the upper corner there is a patch that is brighter than the rest of the screen, and a line that's brighter. When I touch it nothing feels off. Apple claims that the new IPhones can survive 30 minutes in 2 meters. My IPhone 7 is damaged from no more than 3 seconds in 2 cups of water. Will I have to pay to get this repaired? Will my phone break or will it just look weird? [link] [comments] |

Does Apple run diagnostics on iPhones they receive? Posted: 22 Jun 2018 04:39 PM PDT Just wondering - I asked for support to check over my battery and everything to make sure it's in order. Wear ended up being at 86% and they found a bluetooth module issue as well. The repair request email says "Power - Battery Life/Performance." I'm wondering if this means they won't touch the bluetooth at all or if they will run diagnostics to ensure battery is the only problem..? Thanks in advance - I just want it all to be fixed is all and I'm making sure considering I just sent it out. [link] [comments] |
Exchange a product in BC,Canada that was delivered in Calgary,Canada Posted: 22 Jun 2018 12:47 PM PDT I recently bought an apple watch but I changed my mind and now I want a different colour. I'm wondering if I can exchange just the colour without any added fees or do I have to pay for the extra taxes that apply in BC? I just want to change the color, but I'm getting the same product. Thank you [link] [comments] |
Posted: 22 Jun 2018 11:34 AM PDT This is a long story so I'll try to be as brief but descriptive as I can. I accidentally broke the screen of my 13-inch late 2013 Macbook Pro a couple years ago and elected to use external monitors instead of replacing the screen - mainly an AOC brand USB powered monitor, and occasionally an LED flatscreen via HDMI. All was good for me with this method for about two years. Then, after a weeklong dispute with my now ex-wife in which I didn't have access to my laptop while she used it via HDMI external monitor to access my files, I finally got it back. During that week, though, I requested an iCloud erase of my laptop where it of course told me that the next time the computer connected to WiFi, it would erase everything. When I learned I would be getting the laptop back finally, I logged into iCloud again on another machine and cancelled the request (it said it still had not connected to internet and completed). Now that I have my laptop back, I've tried connecting it to my AOC USB powered monitor, multiple HDMI devices, and multiple iMacs using two different Thunderbolt cables via the Target Display Mode method. I made sure my laptop was fully charged & connected to power while attempting all of these methods. I've also tried using Command+F1 while connected to my USB and HDMI external monitors. Obviously my ex-wife could have done something to sabotage the laptop and make this problem for me, and I plan to bring it to an Apple store when I can. I live over 80 miles away from one, though, and my work schedule makes it difficult to make a trip over there while they're open. For now, I'm looking for any help or 'maybe try this' that I can get. Thanks in advanced for anything you guys can think of! [link] [comments] |
How can I view sparsebundle file contents? Posted: 22 Jun 2018 11:20 AM PDT Ok, so I'm trying to help my friend out backing up his old AirPort Time Capsule (2TB capacity / 1TB used), that has his old MacBook Pro backups on it, to a new LaCie 4TB HDD. So, never having used an AirPort Time Capsule in my life, I figured out that I have to connect the Airport Time Capsule to my router's Ethernet and connect the LaCie to it. Once that's in place I connect to the AirPort Time Capsule WiFi, go into AirPort Utility, click on the device, click edit, click archive, select the target drive (LaCie), and then wait ... for 18+ hours for it to transfer 1TB of data from the Airport Time Capsule to the LaCie. Ok, so that happened, but now I unplug the LaCie from the Airport Time Capsule and plug into my new MacBook Pro and there's one new file and one new folder: "AirPort Time Capsule Archive_temp" (folder) "autorun.inf" In the Folder there is a file called "[name]'s MacBook Pro (499)", where "[name]" is my friend's name. It's apparently a .sparsebundle file, and I tried running hdiutil attach -noverify /Volumes/LaCie/AirPort\ Time\ Capsule\ Archive_temp/name's\ MacBook\ Pro\ (499).sparsebundle/, but I got this return error: hdiutil: attach failed - image not recognized Anyway, I'd like to be able to view these data on the sparsebundle file "name's MacBook Pro (499)". Not sure what the (499) is or what I'm doing wrong, but I can't mount it. How do I get in? [link] [comments] |
