Who's planning on buying the new iPad Pro?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2018 10:59 AM PDT

With all the recent rumors and leaks, I gotta say I am getting excited to see the product revealed and am likely going to upgrade to this years model (assuming everything I've seen is true). Who else is thinking about it so far, based on what's come out?

PSA: Notability on sale for $5.99 on ios & MacOs

    Posted: 02 Aug 2018 09:24 PM PDT

They've been $9.99 for a LONG time so if you're looking to buying either probably should buy now.

I bought the iOS one a couple weeks ago - was worth the $10 though. I bought the MacOs version today since I'm aware the Mac version is limited compared to the iOS version and was waiting for it to go on sale (not worth $10 imo).

iPad Pro: 10.5 or 12.9 (student use mainly)

    Posted: 03 Aug 2018 09:17 AM PDT

Hey guys. Im a 3rd year engineering student and am looking for something to replace notebooks and my heavy laptop.

I'm not sure between the two sizes, tradeoff being price, size, portability and weight. I think 10.5 is a nice size but what im worried is say i wanna multitask, Notability with a textbook opened. Is the screen size enough? When im home i have my desktop computer so i can open PDFs there but say in a coffee shop, or at school. Is the 10.5 enough screen size? Say in landscape or portrait? Is the 12.9 comfortable for writing?

    Tell me about your experiences!

Is it possible to get malware on an old gen iPad?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2018 12:12 PM PDT

Now that Apple isn't updating them anymore? The person who gave it to me didn't do a hard wipe, because there's actually a program I need on there that's under their account (not apple), and they pretty much just deleted their photos and files and that's it.

Sometimes I visit websites with some hardcore pop-ups, and I don't want to be accidentally compromising their old data, if that's even possible.

Leather case for iPad Pro 10.5 that will patina over time?

I'm looking for a leather case for my iPad Pro that will patina over time. That means it can't have a fake grain or protective coating. Any recommendations?

Best Wall Charger and lightning cable for an iPad 5th gen/2017?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2018 11:00 AM PDT

I'm fairly new to Apple; I've never owned an Apple product in my life. A friend recently gifted me an iPad without a charger. I've been looking up chargers for it, but I can't seem to come to a decision. I don't want to get a faulty charger or cable that might break within a couple months. I came to this subreddit to get some suggestions from people who have plenty of experience with Apple. Any advice is very much appreciated!

If you have other apple products, how much use does your iPad get compared to other devices?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2018 02:19 PM PDT

Hey r/iPad! For context, I am considering getting an iPad but am trying to justify the expense as I am a student and trying to stick to a budget. That being said, I can see the iPad being the go to device for reading and videos. I currently have an iPhone and MacBook Pro. So forgive me if I am uninformed, but in many ways the iPad seems like a large iPhone that can't make calls. My last experience with the iPad was a first gen model which I bought shortly before it was bricked and could not be updated past iOS 5. If anyone has any insight to what they think the iPad does better than the iPhone or MacBook let me know. Thanks very much.

[question] looking to buy an iPad Pro off Craigslist. What should I look for and/or check before purchasing?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2018 10:20 AM PDT

    Hi guys,

Found a deal on Craigslist for an iPad Pro 10.5 for $420. The iPad is brand new sealed and shrink wrapped.

I know that for iPhones, it's good to check imei for blacklisting and icloud lock. Is there anything I should be weary of when it comes to buying iPads? This is my first tablet purchase.

Edit: is the deal too good to be true? The individual claims that he just got a divorce from his wife and is looking to cover expenses before he moves back to Thailand.

    Activation Lock Help

    Posted: 03 Aug 2018 01:28 PM PDT

    Hey guys,

I'm sure you run into posts with that kind of a title often but I hope I get some insight into this. I'm kinda sorta the tech guy working for a small business. So, imagine my surprise when I'm handed three iPads that had their passcodes forgotten.

I'm an Android junkie and so I basically followed the instructions that I pulled off from Gizmodo (I think?) to reset the iPad which was pretty easy and I got two of them working. The third one is stuck behind an activation lock. And here's the fun bit, it was a gift to her kid by someone she knew. And she doesn't have the proof of purchase and the kid's lost access to her accounts. So, I'm not really sure how I can get it working.

The sad thing is that she said if I got two of them working, I could have the third one for myself. And now from what I've read online, I have an expensive paperweight. Is there anything that can be done? Because I'd rather give her the iPad and let her figure it out than brick a possibly working device by trying to do something about it.

Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks guys!

PS: Since I'm not familiar with the Apple ecosystem, the only bit of identifying info I have about the device is that it uses the bigger connector. Like I said, any help would be great.

iPad mini keeps deleting my iBooks

    Posted: 03 Aug 2018 01:15 PM PDT

I literally downloaded 20 books back to my iPad from iCloud for the third time his day. My guess it wants to clear storage since it is only 16gb but there are 2gb free. Still it is annoying that it is doing that without my consent.

Any ideas? Am I overlooking some kind of setting?

    32gb Ipad Mini 2?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2018 07:04 AM PDT

A friend is willing to part with it for $150. He just bought it about 4 months ago straight from Apple, refurbished. Anything I should consider before jumping on this. Seems like a pretty good deal to me.

Ipad mini 4 vs iPad 2018 for reading comics? And some more questions..

    Posted: 03 Aug 2018 04:51 AM PDT

I was all set to buy an iPad 2018 128gb wifi today when someone gave me an iPad mini 4 16gb (!) LTE together with a 3.5gb monthly plan. This kinda put my iPad 2018 plans on hold because hey, it's free! Even the plan is free, because apparently the mini was bought together with a phone plan, and so the data plan is bundled with it.

It was given by a family member who doesn't use it, it's been gathering dust in her office for 3 months now which was why it was given to me instead.

Anyway, I intend to use the iPad mostly for reading comics and ebooks, probably some Netflix, and browsing. Maybe a game or two? I wanted to get the 128gb so I can cram all the comics I can in it. Maybe some music and offline movies.

Now, since I have a 16gb ipad mini now, I was wondering if I should still get a 9.7" iPad? The mini has a nicer screen for sure, but at 16gb, I expect to delete and transfer files a whole lot. But Since it has LTE, I can stream music and movies when I'm out of wifi range so no need to store anything. Should I get a leef ibridge?

As for reading comics, the larger screen is preferable of course, or does the mini's nicer laminated display make up for that? Not to mention it is more portable.

If I do get a 9.7", I'd probably get an LTE version so i can still use the 'free' data plan.

Given how ill use it, will the 16gb mini suffice?

BTW, this will be my first iPad. My kids have one (a mini 2), but I never really used it.

    Cracked screen tutorial video

    Posted: 03 Aug 2018 07:00 AM PDT

So my iPad Air finally cracked on me. I went to the Apple store and they said they can't or won't fix it, but would recommend getting a new iPad. So I've taken it upon myself to try and do my first iPad Air screen repair. So my question is what is the best tutorial video out there. I'm not 100% concerned if I damage it beyond repair, but atleast want to give it a shot before I shell out some money for a brand new one.

2018 iPad storage question - how deep is the iOS rabbit hole?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2018 02:18 PM PDT

I'm considering a 2018 iPad for use as an instant-on take-anywhere word processor, using the likes of Scrivener or Ulysses or something similar. Of course I'd also use it for the usual media consumption and web browsing stuff everyone else uses it for as well.

I'm an Android user and I've never had a lot of contact with iOS, and so I'm not very familiar with the Apple ecosystem. I was originally thinking I'd just get the cheaper 32GB version, but now I'm second-guessing myself. Should I go with the 128GB version instead? I usually stream movies instead of download them, and I don't play a lot of games, but I'm wondering how much of a gateway drug the iPad would be - would I end up installing lots of additional apps? I'm fairly sophisticated when it comes to tech and I really like to play with technology and try new things, so I can imagine that I'd install quite a few apps just to try them out. I've also heard that iOS versions of apps are better than the Android versions, so I can also see the iPad taking over some of the things I currently use my laptop or my phone for (reading comic books, for example).

So I guess what I'm asking is, how important is the extra space for someone like me? Also, would the additional memory be worth it in terms of resale value a few years later?

EDIT: That didn't take long. It looks like it's pretty much unanimous that I should go for the upgraded storage. Thanks, everyone!

64GB vs 256GB iPad Pro for School?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2018 05:27 AM PDT

hi! i'm currently a third year biology and chemistry student in college. i've noticed that i have a lot of papers and spare sheets, as well as books and notebooks that have begun to clutter up my room and working space. because of this, i've been considering buying an iPad Pro and Apple pencil to help reduce some of that mess and consolidate things into one place to organize it all.

as i most likely will have more difficult and reading heavy classes in the future, where i usually take notes, i was wondering what the best storage space for me would be. i can't really guess how much space notes from a note taking app such as notability or pdfs of textbooks will take up. i don't plan on using the iPad for personal use, and after undergrad i'm most likely moving onto a combined masters/PhD program (basically like eight more years of school). i also have the 50GB iCloud storage, if it helps any.

    any thoughts or suggestions?

App has crashed my ipad mini, cant access any menus, how do i restore to factory default?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2018 05:55 PM PDT

I am at my job, and they have an ipad mini they would like to use, but it has a kiosk pro app installed, and as soon as the device turns on, the app opens, but it crashes and requests connection to the server, and wont go away. Volume still works, power button puts it to sleep and brings it back (back to that frozen screen) but the only way to turn it off and reset is to hold home key and power button. Once it comes back, right back to the frozen app.

I havent found anything about this online. I cant connect it to my home wifi, but its still attached to my work wifi. I am gonna try to call apple support tomorrow back at work when im on the wifi and see if they can reset it for me, but is there anything i can do from home?

Readdle productivity pack 50% off, is it worth?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2018 08:06 PM PDT

The pack contains PDF expert, Scanner Pro, Printer Pro, and Calendars 5 by Readdle. I know that PDF expert is probably worth the price 10$, how about the other three apps? It is now 15$ for all four apps.

App or Setting to Restrict Certain Pages and Subpages From Specific Site

    Posted: 02 Aug 2018 04:00 PM PDT

    Hey all,

I'm trying to figure out how I can restrict certain pages and sub-pages from a specific website. For example, I would like to restrict the contact us and FAQ pages for example.com.

I've tried using guided access and restriction on iOS but it only works at the site level. Need something with more settings. Any suggestions on how I can do this or an app?

    Thanks for the help
